I’m a total sucker at tags and names, but i think one of them were [WoB] or sth like that from PS. They engaged with ~15 and without other guild groups for backup, even when outnumbered and fought well with what they got.

This could have been us at [HoB]? This has been a more enjoyable match up than last week for sure. See you all in the lakes next time around.

I wanted to see all our fights there as i was commanding the first time yesterday and i hoped be able to evaluate my movement but it seems like half of our fights were cut out…

Btw i have great fun this week. Others can tell whatever they want but imo this is million times better then playing in tier 7

Yes, was an interesting and enjoyable evening. Not being able to place teh sieges seems to make a bit of a difference. Lots more roaming groups, was nice!

First night out in WvW for me for about three weeks, on my shiny new PC. Had some nice fights in AR borderlands. This is a very pretty game when you don’t have to play with all your graphics on the lowest setting! 40 FPS in the big fights is a novelty for me as well ^^

HoB enjoyed some fights against an AR guild [WAR] last night, in Riverside BL. Nice to see oppo more willing to run as an independent guild group. Want more of the same plox!

sPvP and WvW are two very different game modes. One rewards individual skill a lot more, the other rewards larger scale team play. It’s like comparing tennis to rugby. I wouldn’t go onto a rugby pitch by myself expecting to have fun versus 15 burly men, whether I have a tennis racquet or not!

My guild originated in WAR where the open world PvP was designed towards groups of 24 people, and this is the scale of PvP that we are used to and enjoy. We get a lot of pleasure in making the group as a whole greater than the sum of it’s parts. A lot of the specs we use are pretty awful 1v1 but combined together with good coordination, allow us to wipe groups vastly superior in number to our own. It’s honestly a bit more nuanced than “follow the Commander and spam 1”!

In my experience, sPvP can become a lot less about actually killing the opposition, and a lot more about staying alive for as long as possible (bunkering), or avoiding fights entirely to capture unguarded circles, or running around in a group of 8 ganking the other team 1 by 1 because they’ve split up, presumably looking for some 1v1 fights.

The WvW community as a whole is generally a lot more inclusive and supportive than the sPvP community – I’ve often seen people raging at each other in sPvP for being a n00b or using an OP class or whatever, and it doesn’t make for the most convivial or fun atmosphere. Whilst there are still unsavoury individuals in WvW, their impact is diluted by the presence of a greater number of normal, well balanced, polite individuals! I don’t have much time for ragers. Seems sPvP peeps can generally be intolerant of new players, or players they deem not good enough to play with. Not quite reaching the toxicity of the League of Legends community, or the rampant anti-Semitism I frequently encountered playing Call of Duty, but it’s got a similar bent.

That’s my take on it anyway. I can appreciate that small scale folks can often find WvW a frustrating experience. But a decently sized, organized group can have a big impact and have some truly epic fights. Honestly surprised we don’t encounter more guilds running by themselves in similar numbers. But then it did take the RvR in WAR a year or more to mature to the “don’t zerg, the more equal-sized GvG fighting is the fun bit” kind of mentality.

Chatted to genowefapigwa in game yesterday evening to clear things up re: HoB, VII, III etc reportedly being out of position. Basically boiled down to “RAWR queues”! It’s all good!

The inter-WIC-HoB coordination wasn’t particularly planned, honestly! Just kinda happened organically… There were a lot of people from Riverside and Piken all around that SE corner of the map, and not a lot going on elsewhere, so inevitable that people would get drawn in to where the action was. It was good fun! Though, given the amount of resources we were both throwing at it, it was only one tower!

HoB had fun on Piken borderlands last night, lots of fighting to be had. My first WvW experience since the culling was removed – very very impressed!

Looking forward to more of the same this evening.

As a rule we generally try to leave smallscale folks alone when we’ve got the warband out, so it’s nice this is noted and appreciated! Though there are times when the rule is broken of course!

Namely, if someone from HoB is attacked first, in which case vengeance and retribution must be exacted upon the offending party.
The capture of an objective is being prevented.
If our glorious leader mistakes a small group for a culled zerg….
Or we haven’t found anyone to fight for a while!

The game is named “guild wars” so no complaining about GVG in “guild wars” please.

As much as I am for PvP being about actual player-on-player combat and less about capturing and holding objectives, I don’t half /facepalm when someone says “it’s called guild wars because it’s meant to be about GvG”. I’m not even that big on the Lore and I know the Guild Wars was some major historical event that happened way before the time in which the game is set, rather than a reference to a popular game mode from GW1.

At least, that’s what your brother told me…. Thought you’d have known better, Wam! :P

Though will absolutely agree with you in that the majority of Scenarios in WAR were better than the SPvP on offer at the moment in GW2, which is a crying shame.

Underworld, Far Shiverpeaks and Ring of Fire – have the same population as Blacktide, Vizunah and Elona – this are not extreme cases, but they prove that World population have not much effect on WvW ranking.

Looking at the populations as of right now (00:30 UK), 7 out of 14 “Very High” population servers are in the top 3 tiers, whereas 3 out of 14 “Very High” population servers are in the bottom 3 tiers.

Conversely, 5 out of 6 “Medium” servers are in the bottom 3 Tiers, 0 out of 6 are in the top 3.

I don’t see how this doesn’t show that there isn’t a correlation between Tier and Population (admittedly not a perfect correlation, but it is a factor nonetheless).

You are perfectly right Sandro, you are playing the same as intended trebuchets just aren’t very exciting! But that is not your fault

There are times when I wish WvW could be one giant deathmatch, similarly-sized guild groups roaming around the zone, fighting out in the open, just enjoying the battles without any of this siege nonsense or having to worry about server scores!

Had some nice fights earlier in the evening last night, but didn’t have so much fun when it descends into Treb Wars 2. Watching guildies fire trebuchet’s and playing “spot the enemy siege build site” isn’t the greatest way to spend an evening! But I suppose this is a complaint against WvW in general rather than any particular guild or server

Xmas meal with my work this evening so I’m going to miss the rest of the match-up. Boooooo!

Culling has become much, much worse for me since this last patch. I see even less people on my screen than I could previously, large groups of enemies completely disappear as we run towards them. It’s terrible. The old system was orders of magnitude better.

Was kinda frustrating fighting in Riverside Borderlands last night. It felt like the culling problem was much more severe than it had been over the weekend. So many invisible people, both friendly and hostile, made it pretty much impossible to tell where the hell the fighting was going on.

Anyone else find the same thing?

Has been a pretty fun weekend I think. [HoB] had some good fun in Fort Ranik borderlands last night – good fights against [dw] and [ZORN] from Riverside, and one from Fort Ranik whose tag escapes me… Something like [VOX] or [NOXI] – apologies for my bad memory!

Culling is being a royal PITA for us at the moment but imagine that is the same for everyone!

Nice to see some familiar names – when I saw the Vitas guildtag I did wonder if it was the same VOP. What happened to the Odious Parrots part of it though?

I also note that Mr Kyma has left [HoB] off his list – presumably this is tacit permission for us to server hop to Gunnars Hold? :P
