Thanks Huskyboy.1053 and Midontto.5847!

TBH – I’m probably only going to be an average or below average player on Thief, I just don’t have the time to be a master (I’m a casual). Also, I don’t really know enemy animations – would D/P be the speck for us crappy players to still put up a good fight? Swap should be shortbow?

Tbh thief is not the class for you if you’re not going to put in the time to learn how to read enemies. With all the particle effects in GW2, it’s hard to see your enemy’s animations outside of highly telegraphed attacks like Vault on Thief’s Staff or True Shot from DH’s Longbow. What’s most important is knowing ALL of your enemy’s skills in a 1v1 situation, and predicting what will happen next. That will help you greatly with interrupting via Steal or Head Shot. But if you can’t/won’t put in the time to learn the meta builds for each class, it will be nearly impossible for you to beat them outside of lucky interrupts and enemies who don’t understand that they can just not auto attack while the Thief they’re fighing spams headshot.

Thanks for your honest assessment, but I really like the class and don’t want to reroll a warrior. It’s not that I don’t want to learn and improve, but I just can only commit 5-10 hrs per week (play time) + 5 hours reading/watching vids per week. 10-15 hours per week total.

It is a bit overwhelming being 4 years behind the curve… but I don’t want to be the weakest link on teams

Hi I’m trying to figure out if it matters what server I’m on for leveling. I’d like to level with active players around. I’ve seen megaserver mentioned, but in WvW there are separate servers that compete?

So do you level with just your server or is it some type of merged server. I’m not familiar with megaserver so can you please explain that? Also, is there an active list of servers and player activity levels?

Finally, is there an RP PVP server (one that isn’t dead – I primarily play saturday and sunday mornings Eastern time).

I’d like to do some WvW at level 80.

I’m a new player (just started leveling), I really like dual daggers… just kinda cool. However, this thread doesn’t even mention it – is it completely useless in sPVP and WvW (roaming/ambushing in WvW stragglers)? I want to level with the spec that I’ll play in PVP at 80.

Separate stupid question, having a dual dagger – does that increase the auto attack of the main hand dagger? I’m guessing not.

New player - PVE Leveling using Dual Daggers?

Hi, I’m new to the game and am rolling a thief – currently level 17. I’m a casual weekend gamer. After I hit 80, I intend on PVPing quite a bit (but i’m not trying to rush through PVE content though / speed leveling).

I read the Thiefs guide on the sticky, and it says that D/D is painful to level with – it recommends a mindless/easymode short sword / pistol spec rotation (I guess continually blinding the enemy). However, I don’t want level and get trained on using this methodology – only to have to relearn how to kite and attack using D/D for pvp – it seems if I’m going to spend hours PVE’ng, I would also really like to learn the skills and techniques that will best prepare me for PVP.

I’m also a fan of dual guns on my swap, but hear shortbow is the way to go.

Also, if d/d is viable for PVE leveling – any recommended pull and rotation approaches.

Side question – I keep getting wasted by the level 15 hero point quest: "Defeat the Ancient Ember and Its Minions is a hero challenge outside the northern face of the Thaumanova Reactor that occurs when a character releases the Ancient Elemental Fire Energy. " Any advice? and do I have to activate the quest or can I join someone who already activated it to get the point (do I have to wait my turn if someone else activates it first?).

Thanks!
