As the title suggests I am interested in finding out if I Should pick Intel or AMD.
To be more specific I am trying to figure out which one of these two i7 3770(I did not miss the “K” it’s just not there) or AMD Bulldozer FX-8320 would be better for gaming, and since the WvW aspect of GW2 is so heavily based on CPU I thought I would come here for some assistance. So far I assumed Intel was better for gaming because it has more power per core but I started to dig around a little and came across some people who claimed the AMD version would be better but they did not provide any proof to this so I am still not sure.

I would appreciate any help with this dilemma, my PC is almost ready just need to figure out this last part.

Get Intel for MMOs and believe me I’m a genuine AMD user its just not providing the horse power you expect from it. And get the K series ones since you will most probably want to overclock it one day if not right away. And hey 4th series of intels were released like a month ago why bother with 3770? go for 4670k (i5) or 4770k i7.

Ofcourse there is a reason why bother with i7 3770 and it is a simple one-money.
I am a University student, students aren’t known for their riches exactly.
I will upgrade when the time comes probably but for now that is the best I can afford with my current disposable income.

General rule:

Intel for gaming
AMD for multitasking programs

I thought the same thing but since I came across some different opinions I started second guessing myself. Thats why I came here for more information

With my current budget that is all i can put aside for my gaming hobby, from your reply I am guessing that I might not get the highest fps but it will be playable and if need be I do not mind lowering the settings on some aspects.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

As the title suggest I am buying a new PC and need some advice on how well will this one do on the highest-ish settings, my current monitor is 1280by1024 but looking to upgrade it to a 1920by1080, mostly concerned about zerg play in WvW, since to my understanding that is the highest fps dropping activity.

PC specs
Intel Core i7 3770
GeForce GTX 660
RAM 8 GB
HDD 500 GB
Asus/Gigabyte/Msi socket 1155
2.1/7.1-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC

All feedback is greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately they do not ship to my region but I got the general idea of what I should buy, still wish I could build it myself but oh well maybe I will replace some parts next year.

Arround 800 bucks

EDIT: However, the main thing I only need now is to know about the 2 CPU’s, I get that the i3 is better but I hope its only slightly better. :P
Trust me if I could I would build my own, its like restoring a car just can’t buy the same feeling. But there are a few details I left out which are not relevant and are why I can’t build my own.(Silly I know but that’s how it is)
Thanks you for the help though I appreciate it

While we are at it, a special deal came along(holidays), it costs more ofc. but it is affordable
CPU-AMD FX-4100 4-core 3.6GHz 12M AM3+ 95W
Motherboard- GIGA-BYTE AMD 760G/SB710 SAM3+ MATX
Ram- 4GB 1333MHZ DDR3 CL9 DIMM KINGSTON
Hard drive- WD CAVIAR BLUE 1TB 3.5" SATA3 7200RPM 64MB
GPU -GIGA-BYTE GTX660 2GB GDDR5
Power supply- Fortron 500W (85PLUS) 12CM SILENT
The most noticable change is the GPU clearly better than System Nr.1 and Nr.2
But it has the CPU from Nr.1 so is it worth missing out on the i3 for the better GPU?
EDIT: For Gw2 it probably does not matter so much (Still CPU intensive) but for general gaming.

I understand these systems are not High-end, but I’m a student :) so these are the best I can afford right now , and it shouldn’t be that bad because my current specs are:
Ram- 4 GB
GPU- GTS 250, 512 mb
CPU- AMD Atholon™ II X4 640 3 Ghz
and its playable with these specs with med settings in PVE solo is over 60 fps(capped) in DE’s usually 35-50 depends on the place and in WvW hangs around 30 I’m just looking for a small upgrade and couldn’t decide on those two systems.
So from this feedback the second system is what I’m leaning towards.

System 2 hands down.

Question though.

What do you do most in GW2?

Do you PVE mostly or PVP/WvW ?

if you PVE do u do alot of big events ?

I do everything you mentioned. Not really focused on a single thing

Simple- current system to weak, buying new one, don’t know enough about specs to chose the better one. Any help is welcome.

Motherboard GIGA-BYTE AMD 760G/SB710 SAM3+ MATX
Ram 4GB 1333MHZ DDR3 CL9 DIMM KINGSTON
Hard drive WD CAVIAR BLUE 1TB 3.5" SATA3 7200RPM 64MB
GPU ASUS Radeon HD7750 1GB GDDR5 128b PCI-E 3.0
Power supply Fortron 500W (85PLUS) 12CM SILENT

System Nr. 2
Proccesor Intel Core i3-3220 3300mhz 3M S1155
MotherBoard MSI S1155 H61 USB2 DDR3 LAN DVI-D MATX
Ram 4GB 1333MHZ DDR3 CL9 DIMM KINGSTON

Both systems are about even in everything except the CPU and GPU, would love any info about not only GW2 preformance but also rendering pic/vid with Sony vegas and general stuff.

Actually his performance is quite on par to his system and in relation to yours.

2.4ghz is the crux of the OP’s problem 30 fps max is to be expected with that cpu (unless he lowers animation/physics quality in the settings maybe).

Both your CPU’s are from the same generation and do not have the performance gap between the brands that the current gen has, your amd is simply a lot faster. A faster videocard may increase his low FPS and maybe a little bit on the highs but thats it, his cpu is the bottleneck.

@OP your cpu may have 4 cores but it does not run at 4x 2.4ghz

You could O’C that cpu easy to 3.0/3.4 GHZ easy btw.

I would agree on that IF my CPU was ever used to 100% its always at arround 50% never goes higher ram arround 75% not sure where to check GPU I still think he should have my fps when hes at low setting and im at med (except shadows)

One thing I would like to know what is his screen size that could aslo be the problem.

Sorry, but no u shouldnt get any higher. Old computer < New game.

Let’s agree to disagree I have almost the same PC specs

Same graphic card
Same ram
CPU is AMD Athlon™ II X4 640 Processor 3.00 Ghz
Win 7 32 bit

and the lowest fps I get on med settings(shadows none) is 20 highest 60(monitor limited) avarage is 40 fps and it doesn’t matter how many people are on the map for me it matters where I am wierd I know but thats how it is.

So I think he should be getting higher fps.
