back after a while, Nvidia released drivers that recognize the 64bit client, but still it go only with integrated GPU..
so far i tried:
- changing game folder
- switching names between versions
- changed every single settings in the nvidia control panel [both global and application settings]
- starting the client with right click and “run with dedicated gpu”
- total uninstall [with a tool] of the nvidia drivers and the settings, ccleaner and installing new drivers
- right clicking, property and compatibility options on
- starting the game from the nvidia experience panel since the 64bit client showed there
nothing solved my issue, the game is still not recognized as something that should start with discrete gpu
i tried today after a while because i got the same problem with another game that gave me the same problem [beta as well]
Ok, I tried to change the path of the game [not anymore in program files x86], and it didn’t fixed it..
The 64bit client still start with integrated video card, can’t do anything about it, the only thing i didn’t tried is to disable the integrated card once for all on bios, but i don’t want to do it, and i will not do it since it’s only a problem with this .exe..
It’s like the gw2 64.exe isn’t recognized as a proper game, when i select it in the nvidia panel, it doesn’t even show the icon or “guild wars 2”, it shows the path, i tried redownloading it, didn’t solved anything.. my 2 cents: the beta client isn’t recognized from some nvidia cards as a game.
That’s the only thing that makes sense so far.
Which Nvidia card do you have and driver version? A quick google search of Optimus not switching to the Nvidia GPU has some matches for other games too. It seems to be a driver issue. One guy reinstalled the OEM version of the driver that came with his laptop.
See for example: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/748467/optimus-won-t-switch-on-a-gtx-765m/
Optimus is a pita
My husband had Optimus headaches when trying to run Solidworks on a Lenovo laptop.
My computer is an Alienware laptop, m17x r4, with nvidia gxt660m, and i’m using the latest nvidia drivers, 358.87 i tried the 64bit client with the previous drivers and then updated to these, so i tested both.. same problem.
Never heard of optimus tho, i have nvidia experience and nvidia control panel only on my laptopOptimus is Nvidia’s GPU switching technology. It is built into the Nvidia driver.
can’t find optimus anywhere, and never saw it in these 3 years using this laptop, guess it’s hidden or my laptop uses a different system.
sadly, i still can’t use x64bit client properly and i’m gonna resign using it.

Can’t seem to patch in from this last update on the 64-bit client
Can patch and play just fine on the 32-bit client
check firewall and other stuff that can block your traffic, it’s the same game but it starts with a different .exe now, if you had to give permissions to the first one, maybe you have to redo the same for the new one
Still getting the same issue, dedicated video card in both the global preference and application one, and still it start using the integrated video card

it’s like something tell the application to ONLY start with integrated gpu, ignoring my settings, what can i do? never happened to me, only with this 64-bit client.
EDIT: i’m using windows 7 sp1 64bit
Did you manually add gw2-64.exe to the nVidia panel?
Of course, that was the first thing i tried, after that i set the nvidia card as the default one, nothing solved my issue sadly
i also tried to right click on the 64bit client and manually select to run the program with nvidia card, nothing.
this is pretty weird, the client only start with integrated card somehow
How aggravating. The only other thing I noticed is you have GW2 installed in Program Files(x86). Try copying/moving your Guild Wars 2 folder to C:\Guild Wars 2. Windows/Optimus may be doing something weird and trying to use 32 bit libraries since the executable is in the (x86) folder.
i was thinking the same, today i will try that, it’s strange but could be related [like x64 app doesnt start properly when in a x86 folder]
^^
to the others that see a huge fps drop, it was already said = check if the game starts with your dedicated video card, it seems that on laptops it always choose to start with integrated if you don’t set your preferences

I play on a laptop, still can’t use my dedicated video card even if i set the right things on the nvidia panel.
I can’t turn off integrated gpu to force it, so i can only go back to 32bit client atm.
about this..
if this thing fixed technical problems, i’m ok with that
but as a long time gw2 player i’m a little upset because i spent gems for the digital deluxe upgrade, as well for the 3 heritage armor set.
i was in the beta so i got an heroic chest too, with a choice from 3 sets that i already have and 10x boosters that i will never use, but free stuff, no much complains about it.
the complain was that people that doenst bought gems like me got this and other rewards and it doenst seems fair, either for me and for those who bought stuff like collector edition, subscribed to the newsletter and didnt even get the beta invitation
i just feel like i “lost” 2500 gems with this
I believe i’ve managed to create the first good looking sylvari in heavy armor! =)
Really?
This is my main, and i really love him.
the only part that i don’t like 100% is his boots in my main setup, waiting for new skins
sylvari heavy ftw

Please ArenaNet, reconsider the timers on the world bosses. Every 2 or 3 hours is fine, don’t touch it.
^ this.
And really, i agree with agent post, every single word.
It’s useless to have organized event ingame with a system that prioritize casuals and give problems to the communities. The name say all: “organized event”
You can’t do wurms without cooperation, you can fail easily tequatl without cooperation, casuals mostly [almost all the times, but yes, i’m saying “mostly”] don’t cooperate, i say that by experience, people wont listen, people sneaks in organized stuff for leeching without actually partecipating at the event, people rage and insult you when you give them suggestion [like 2 days ago, a guy raged against me in wvw because i suggest him to use sharpening stones, saying stuff like “i play my own way, i’m good as i am, i don’t need you”]
it’s a cool idea to make people play togheter in the megaserver, but it will work only with dynamic events, not huge organized ones.
i’m in TxS so i know how much preparation are needed for those events, i also saw gandara these days organizing for wurms and i liked it, i appreciated the efford,
the fun is here, you modified tequatl because people were only “going there and spamming 1 till he die”, and i loved it, gave us all a challenge, this is funny stuff, not champs trains at queensdale, karma trains at EotM, hp sponge jormaq\shatterer guy, and really, i don’t want that things change.
Sorry for the bad english, sincerely, an hardcore Gw2 player.
