I am not the originator of this attitude towards this forum it’s simply how everyone sees it and it’s a fact. It’s pretty much at the very bottom of the forums page and is really just a clusterkitten of PvX as you said which makes it hard to browse for specific things people are looking for which is why people don’t think it is actually ‘’a good place to look for’’.

Good point there. If it’s set like that it may be trying to check the GW2 dat file, what would make the hard drive get 100% busy (either with loading as virus scanning). I’m not saying that may be the issue, but this point makes some sense and it’s a possibility.

Also I have recently noted that HD 100% busy causes more freezing than running out of memory or busy CPU.

This makes sense , but not a pure answer to me. No offense but you guys never name out / missed what I said earlier for like three times.

- Why ONLY after opening GW2 , and manually power off (because it freezes) , THEN my other games stop working? and why reformatting solved all my other games freezing issue but not GW2?

This is the question . This is why I came to GW2 forum. This is why I never waste my money to another pc technician again. So many days has passed , most of the people here never read what I said and went straight to the point. And when I do remind them that I told them like so many times , they offended me back . Is this what the GW2 community is?

Edit : 20 gb bogging down my system? I played plenty of games with 25 gb – 30 gb. No problems and no issue. Diablo 3 , Tera Online.

You say this only happens when you try to play games so it tells me it has nothing to do with a virus but more of hardware dying or software settings is wrong.

I bet its your McAfee anti-virus settings, disable or uninstall it and try your games then and see what happens. The new 2015 Kaspersky Internet Security version done the same thing to me.

No sir , only happens to Guild Wars 2 . After Guild Wars 2 , only to my other games. If I don’t open Guild Wars 2 , no freezing problem occurs. Like I said , I already uninstalled Guild Wars 2 and playing other games smoothly without any issue , I’m here because I want to find a solid possible solution that makes sense before I download the 25 gb Guild Wars 2 again , and risk my PC to freezing problems , which causes me to REFORMAT my laptop again (3rd/4th time?) AND redownload everything which took me hours (around 50 gb?)

But ok , I might agree with the McAfee . Maybe I will redownload again and risk it again, just maybe. Is it worth it? I don’t know. I’ll check the settings of McAfee and everything

Have you tried checking the drivers of your video card, make sure they are the latest ones?
What you are describing doesn’t sound like a virus at all, sounds more like a hardware issue, but don’t think it is overheating.

Yeap , I already updated all of them to the latest version. No difference.. Maybe hardware , maybe not. I can’t tell. I don’t have any issues at the moment with other games.

Tell us what your system specs are, and we can work from that towards resolving your issue. Ignorance isn’t insulting unless you choose to remain ignorant, fill in those missing gaps of information that a number of the people here have already asked of you but you have refused to give them.

Right now you’re saying ‘my car has a problem fix it’ without letting us look at it before expecting us to fix it. This is a failure to communicate that frustrates both parties. A doctor cannot prescribe medication based on the symptoms you list alone because you may miss one that he/she would find during an exam.

Since it freezes while booting GW2, I’m going with your processor isn’t up to snuff. My brother, who as it turned out didn’t even have a video card in his system, could even play GW2 because his processor was a little above what GW2 requires (dual core 2.0 ghz). Again I could be wrong because you have not specifically listed what your processor is.

You seem ignorant of how nanoscale electronics work, but I’m not sure overheating or the hard drive are issues either. If you had the system checked out by professional technicians then show us the diagnostic reports from the tests they conducted. Otherwise you still have no useful information to work from.

I’m not ignorant , I’m listing down the facts that I know that no one agrees with me. But yeah , I don’t know what’s the real issues too. It only happens to Guild Wars 2 , that’s why I came here.

I’ve been into few PC technicians.. They checked and all of them said it’s not hardware problem . If it is hardware problem it wouldn’t freeze because I open GW2 , it could be auto shut down or similar. If it’s hardware problem , why reformatting solves the freezing problem to other games (after I open gw2 , and it “attacked my other game causes to freeze too” ? And only occurs after gw2?

I cannot use virustotal.com because I UNINSTALLED Gw2 , I do not want to risk my laptop again.

Installing doesn’t break stuff , opening GW2 breaks stuff.

And it is not overheating… I can feel it , touch it . I switch on my laptop for like 20 seconds and instantly open gw2 , it still freezes. Same result . Doesnt make sense that it is overheating.

(I think I repeated what I typed many times and you guys stated the same statement .. No offense. Yes I know if it’s GW2 itself , many people would complain. But why recent patch? Why my laptop? I’m looking for the solution.)

Suspicions :
Overheating – Big NO , it’s impossible.
Virus – Still no , I run McAfee scans , no virus. FULL scan.
Hard Drive Problems – Maybe? I can see my drive turn 100% on the task manager before it freezes. But why? Why hard drive? If it’s hard drive problem I wouldn’t able to play my other games too. But why after reformatting I still can play the other games smoothly? Doesn’t makes sense.

How could that be overheating if I just started my laptop for like few minutes? and it freezes. And in that case , why would it affected my other games that I run smoothly.
And nope , I don’t know how to run a benchmark to get my cpu to it’s limit. If it’s overheating , it could freeze again after i reformat. but nope , it only freezes once i open guild wars 2.

I said confirmed because I reformat my pc like 2-3 times , and redownload/reinstalled Guild Wars 2 2-3 times too. Took me a lot of time and the same problem occurs once I open Guild Wars 2 . At the moment , I already uninstalled the game and i can’t use virustotal.com. But okay , I’ll remove the confirmed on the topic. And also , I don’t remember the windows 32.log proper name. It’s a windows file or something.

I have no proper information about the virus , (how do I get one? when my laptop completely freezes?).

And , what I mean other games became “unplayable” is ..
So , once I open Guild Wars 2 , turn black screen and freezes my whole system . I have to power off manually. I was playing Diablo 3 smoothly without any problems. Until suddenly it freezes and I can’t open the application anymore ( freezes at loading ). And then I went to play league of legends. (I’ve been playing this game for YEARS and nothing happen like these before.) Same thing occurs , freezes during loading and unplayable again. All these happens right after I open GuildWars2.

Do you guys have any idea about this? Oh ya btw , new problem occurs after I open Guild Wars 2 again. If I leave my laptop idle for like 5-10 minutes , it will freeze when I get back to use it the laptop again.

I “confirmed” that it is a virus because I had bring my laptop to few computer technicians already. They said reformat my laptop is the only choice I had. So I did reformat myself at home and everything seems to be fine again. Until I had chose to try playing guild wars 2 again. And these happens again.

Yes , if it’s the virus comes from Guild Wars 2 , there will be more post about it but I don’t know why the virus itself only attacked my pc. TWICE too. And yes , I download Guild Wars 2.exe from the official website. The virus start attacking only when I tried to OPEN the game. I did a full virus scan and no scene of it. I suspect it attacks the Window 32 log.file or something , causes windows to completely freeze. How do I provide more information? There is no track of this virus except it’s freezing my pc. And no , there is nothing wrong with my pc , this I’m pretty sure. I played a lot of other games and this never happen to me ever. I was even wondering why my laptop turn so kittenty , I reformat it and seems nothing to be wrong anymore. I feel relieved. I downloaded the game , Guild Wars 2 from official website , patched it (I patch it on like few days , pause in between). After few days , I open Guild Wars2.exe , during loading (still black screen) . My pc completely freezes and I have to power off myself. I uninstalled it , but I think it’s too late because the virus already attacked my Windows 32.log file or whatsoever.

Edit : Yes reformatting helps to kill all the problems I had and run smoothly on my PC and other games. UNTIL I downloaded GW2 and open it, freezing problems start and so on

Before any moderators judge that my laptop has ALREADY infected by virus BEFORE I installed Guild Wars 2 , here is some fact.
1 , I reformat my laptop TWICE and downloaded Guild Wars 2. Happens the SAME thing , freeze my systems and the virus starts to attack my other games such as League of Legends , Diablo III , etc.

2 , The recent patch causes this problem. I can confirm because I was playing Guild Wars 2 before the patch , with some freezing problems TOO. I can only play Human Races. Other races (during loading after creation) causes the whole system freeze again.

3 , My PC is COMPATIBLE and good enough to run Guild Wars 2.

4 , my PC has no VIRUS infected before I download Guild Wars 2 as I run Virus Scan.

So , this happen twice. I’m pretty sure the virus came from the game , GW2 itself. I was playing my other games SMOOTHLY without any problems until I start the GW2 game. My system freezes , the virus or whatsoever attacks all my other game , causes most of my games unplayable. So dear Mods , do not ask me to run a virus scan , reformat AGAIN , repair the Guild Wars 2 game , update driver , CCleaner , etc as I already done all these stuffs TWICE. The virus only attacks AFTER I installed Guild Wars 2 and run the game. Hope you guys do something instead of patching more stuffs into the game. Fix this issue .

All right, problem is solved!
It revealed that it was a cpu overclocking issue. Firstly, latter I got random insta reboots while I was playing. After that I tried cpu stress test program LinX, and BAAMM, insta rebooted. So I set a slightly lower FSB and since that I haven’t experienced any issue like those I mentioned

Hey ! I have the same issue! The patch made my laptop went insane ! ( I think virus attacked my laptop) and MOST other games freezes 1 by 1 . I solve this problem by reformatting my laptop. I downloaded Guild Wars 2 again and give it a try but it’s a NO for me. It freezes my system during loading (after startup). How did you solve your freezing problem? Could you guide me?

Hi I am 22 years old and I live in Canada, I’m unable to play for my european team Cheese Mode due to the region restriction so I might be interested in joining or forming up some NA team for the upcoming WTS. I main engineer but I am also a proficient multiclasser. Do not bother contacting me if you don’t believe you and/or your team are one of the best and can realistically make it to PAX East. I have been mainly playing on EU for the past 6 months.

I am eligible for the tournament, have my passport and everything needed. Including the kittening individual player skill and team spirit lads.
