I will start by answering the last questions first :P

1. To get Hero Points faster you need to do more Hero Challenges yes. But you can only do 1 challenge once, that is you cant repeat them for more kitten Points. Because of that you have to map exploring and find Hero challenges in other different areas.

2. As for spending Hero Points, since you are still pretty low lvl and are currently doing PVE to lvl up, you will want skills that helps you do so.

I havent really lvld up myself with this new skill/trait-Hero-Point system since it was so long ago. But for useful utility skills for PVE I personally use:
– Armour of Earth
– Arcane Shield
– Frost Bow/Arcane Wave/whatever-I-feel-like

You will probably want the Glyphs of Elemental Elite / Lesser elemental since they are pretty good tanks that can help you solo against a bit tougher opponents.

As for the traits, I think Fire is a pretty good start PVE-wise. What you choose next is up mostly up to you. If you feel squishy you might wanna go Water/Arcane since those are traits are pretty useful.
(From personal experience I do have a vague memory of some of the Personal Story mobs being a real pain around lvl 60-ish+, so I’d say by that time you might wanna have at least Arcane unlocked for the traits Renewing Stamina for more dodges and Evasive Arcana for dodge-healing in water)

3. As for weapons, I’ll just say use whatever you feel is fun, and feel comfortable using. Theres no use for super-high-DPS if you spend half of the time being dead and the other half running away from things cause you dont wanna get 1-shot-killed :P.
Although for DPS Staff with Fire-traits is very very very very nice though, especially with those elementals helping you tank.

Lack of time to write now….. But as for equipments, remember to keep them updated for your lvl. BUT dont spend too much on equips till your higher lvl to save gold! ^^

New to staff

I have tried Tempest Defense, and its nice. But since I mostly run with the zerg I feel like its not really needed for me. It only goes off when someone target me, and if someone is actually targetting me when I run in a zerg Im doing it wrong and wont last long enough to fully use it (Or I’ve gotten lazy and used to having shorter cooldown on my glyph-heal since I often use it for some extra might stacking). But maybe its more useful for roaming alone.

And I havent really noticed Zephyr Boon process on that one, I thought it was only for the auras that actually comes from skills, not traits?

And last Tornado is nice for when you cast Meteor Shower. You start casting the MeteorShower and right after you finished casting it you use the Tornado for the extra power/ferocity buff Tornado gives. Or to use Tornado in your icefield so enemies get chilled and cant run or in a waterfield for healingcombo :P

Standard staff build

The standard staff build is something like x.×.2.6.6. with most likely power/vitality/toughness gear….I think (since I dont really use it myself) or a mix between that + something else.

And the standard traits on the Arcane line is usually Renewing Stamina, Elemental Attunement, and Evasive Arcana. Sometimes one of those get switched out for Blasting Staff.

I have always used staff myself since game started and spent alot of time in wvw, but I have almost always used the same build so I cant say Im an expert on builds. But of all the builds that you can use the most valuable thing is experience, and positioning, since you are running staff .

As for your build id say it looks ok, depending on what you plan to do. It looks like you plan to do a bit of everything though ^^. I would REALLY suggest using Armour of Earth as utility, for the stabilitybuff which is necessary in both zerging and roaming.

This is my current build, for inspiration:

Yes, Im running berserker in wvw, in zerg, daring right :P. But I can tell it is completly do-able, as long as you stay out of the meleetrain. I do run away from most 1v1 situations though, just to be safe (the one i run the least from is amazingly vs thieves, it is possible to just burst them down if you can dodge the important stuff).

Other than that I usually switch out my elite skill Tornado between the Glyph och the Fiery Greatsword depending on the situation, the rest of the skills are pretty static.

Anyone rocking a storm build?

Yes. I’m using Glyph of Storms in pve and wvw and I like it alot. It’s so great for lootbags in big zergfights ^^. The best storm of those is hands down the Sandstorm with blind and bleed.

I’m running a zerker + boon duration build, 0/30/0/10/30 with staff. With traits for quick glyphs, bigger staff aoe area, and vigor on crit among some.
For utilities i have the Glyph heal, Glyph of Elemental Power (yes, actually), Armour of Earth, Glyph of Storm and either Tornado for wvw or Fiery Greatsword for pve stuff.

The most usual way I use the skill is that I start in Air, then use the Glyph of Elemental power to get the Vuln. chance on skills (duration 30sec). Then I switch to earth and use Glyph of Storms to place the Sandstorm. After that I follow up with Tornado while using the tornado-blind skill on that, or if its any pve; continue normal dps. Last part is collecting the lootbags~~ huhu ^^

Leaked Notes: No improvements for non-bunkers

Yes, excitement about staff eles.
I’m currently already running a 0/30/0/10/30 build and it works great for me. If Glyph of Elemental Power will be a stunbreaker it would be great to have a 36 sec cd stunbreaker (if traited Short Glyphs) + the chance on conditions.

DSD Location and Influence

Bioluminescent Sea Dragon…hmm I think it would be way freakier if it was dark and really hard to see, so “nay” :P

Or maybe it would have something like mantis-wings?

And lastly; maybe you are all asking the wrong question? It is not about where the Deep Sea Dragon is. It’s more about; how far would a quaggan/krait be ready to flee for it?
For if I remember right you do meet quaggan npcs (or hylek, dont remember) who speak of a danger in the sea. And you do know that the krait fled from “something” from the lore.

When has Ele clicked for you?

I think that when my elementalist “clicked” for me was around lvl 25-30ish.
Before that I had been using staff (still only use staff actually) and had put my first traitpoints only in fire thinking: Thats the way it usually goes, right? :P And I noticed I too just kept dieing alot and started to get a bit bored with it. So I went back and resetted some traitpoints to Arcane and Water, just fun, might aswell try I thought. And thats kinda where I got my “Ahaaa~~” feeling.
First thing I noticed was that it got a bit easier at staying alive, second thing I noticed was the boons from that first Arcane trait (the one that gives boon upon attuneswitch, you all know) actually made a difference when switching attunement. It gave a whole lot more meaning upon switching attunement (ex: I actually got more into “defensive stance” when switching to earth with the protection boon). I personally think those 10 arcane points made me easier to learn from experience when and what skills to use in which situation and to practise dodgeing.
Third thing I noticed was that it was very VERY good using the Lesser Glyph of Elemental for the earth-summon when I finally got it. It did help with summoning something beside you when you needed something to tank for you or finish something you started faster.
And well…that’s it. Then it just kept clicking

(note: Do remember to update you armour and weaps to your lvl, even if its just blues. At lvl 50ish I got kitten dieing like a fly for I dunno…10 times before I remembered to look at my armour and realised I was still running around with lvl 30ish armour…lol nab me >.>)
