I thought Boon duration affected the boons only at the point of activation. If you have an adaptive boon duration, it might be difficult to manage.
For example –
1) You have 65% boon duration and you drink Elixir B for 16.5 sec Fury.
2) You have 65% boon duration + you swap kits to activate Concentration Sigil (+33%) You now drink Elixir B for ~20 sec Fury.
I haven’t tested it, but I would assume that swapping kits and activating Concentration Sigil AFTER drinking the Elixir B in example (1), wont affect your 16.5 sec Fury.
This might be more viable on a prof with 10 sec weapon swap, as it is pretty tricky to reliably keep track of your swap sigil CDs on kit engi (unless you want to mess around swapping back and forth before drinking Elixir B, wasting the 3 seconds you would have had as bonus fury anyway…)

Ah I’m talking about WvW roaming or dueling. Generally speaking, you can do far more interesting things with builds in WvW than in PvP.
@GreenRipper – I didn’t realise that medic gyro cleared condis.. If so I might have a play with it tomorrow.
I’d still value rifle turret over battering ram for an SD build though, especially since you can activate it mid Rocket Charge (Twice if they tried to attack you and you evaded with the skill + have Kinetic Battery slotted).

idk if this is a bug or not but the magnet pull sometimes is not working even though the target is hit ( not evaded, not too far, no obstructed) the target only get knock down and not being pull toward the engi, i have experienced it myself and even saw it on popular engi streamer
Its totally a bug. This is the most infuriating bug out there. Almost half of my magnets are not working as intended. This has been like this for years already and nothing has done yet.

I realise magnet has been slightly dodgy for years (maybe 1/5 failed or desynced), but since the specialisation patch, magnet has been beyond terrible. At the moment 4/5 magnet attempts simply cause the target to ‘trip’ on the spot but not be pulled, no matter at what range <1200.. even on flat terrain.
This is incredibly frustrating. I normally just accept bugs and play around them, however I don’t feel I can with this one.

- switch elixir infused bombs with experimental turrets.
As Arrdee pointed out …-spawn turrets where the cast was started.
This will fix the current placement-exploits possible with turrets, while still maintaining the option to perform the healing-turret combo with swiftness while keep running, so a fix that would not hurt all the engi specs relying on healing turret as heal.
I’m pretty sure that moving Elixir Infused Bombs to alchemy would destroy a lot of ‘barely viable’ Engi frontline WvW builds. Understandably people don’t use EIB in PvP , so this might have been overlooked.
Dropping the turret at the position that the cast started sounds like a decent idea. However if this stops an Engi from being able to drop, overcharge and then pick up the heal turret whilst running with swiftness, it would be a pretty significant nerf.
If the purpose of this change is to stop air-turrets, it would be better if the turret was simply spawned on the nearest ground at the end of the cast.

I’ve been playing an SD power build that takes advantage of Armor Mods Aegis as well as maximising the Aegis from Rune of the Defender using Medkit.
Basically the build has:
- Aegis on 10 sec CD
- Aegis on 15 sec CD
- Perma Swiftness in combat (assuming you are hitting the enemy)
- Perma Vigor in combat (assuming you are getting the swiftness above)
- 50% uptime fury from Drop Stim
- 2 Condis removed when swap to Medkit (on 10 sec CD) + an extra 1 from Drop Antidote (15 sec CD)
- Good HP/s from Rune of the Defender heal + Bandage Self + Regen from blocking + Drop Bandages
- Slightly reduced offensive stats compared to more traditional SD build (just much much much higher survivability)

Obviously this only works in WvW since you need the condi cleanse on heal food and the Defender Runes.
In any case, it is an extremely strong build, especially for dueling.

Be aware that Transmute doesn’t turn an entire incoming stack of intensity-stacking conditions into a boon.
For example, if you get hit with Prybar (5 Confusion) you will still end up with 4 Confusion and only one will be transmuted into Retaliation.
It is however still a very strong trait, especially if it procs for Fear (which transmutes to Stability).

It is very similar to the build posted above, however it has much more emphasis on power for WvW.
I’ve gone for a low crit chance but high power/toughness/crit damage then used an intelligence sigil to set up my burst. This actually makes critting on Jump Shot/Prybar far more reliable and also allows them to hit much harder than if I had a more balanced build (with higher crit chance).
You just need to make sure you manage your intelligence swap proc sensibly.

Wolfineer is extremely helpful with tips and advice, even with wvw or pve. There are plenty others aswell, Koroshi for an example, and Prozap(If he still uploads these days). Either way, as everyone has said before try Ostricheggs. Or simply look up on youtube/twitch “Guild Wars 2 Spvp Engineer” or so on.

The only way I can see this Ferocity change positively affecting build diversity is if what Ross says occurs.
i.e.
People will not feel like 1600+ Toughness is mandatory on a roaming build, to stand a chance when inevitably the full zerk Thief one-shots you out of nowhere.
If you remove (or tone down) very high bursts, it’s possible that some builds using new combinations of gear/stats will emerge.
We will have to wait and see.

I had a quick skim through the first few pages in case this had been brought up before, but didn’t see anything.
In the past I noticed that Tossed (F1-F4) elixirs on an Engineer passed through some floor structures, breaking (I assume) on some unreachable surface underneath.
This happens if you stand on any one of the houses to the side of Clocktower on the Battle of Khylo map in sPvP – giving no boons/effects to the engi that threw it.
More recently (and importantly) however I have noticed that this same bug occurs on almost all of the large bridges on the new EoTM map.
Basically, an elixir engineer cannot benefit from any of his F1-F4 toolbelt skills whilst standing on a bridge – and there are a lot of bridges on EoTM

That actually looks really interesting Xaylin, I hadn’t realised that they’d given an example for their proposed changes. Certainly fills me with some hope, not just for this boon duration build too!

@Adamantium – Yeah, one of the great things about the Engineer is the ability to ‘re-invent’ yourself every few weeks with a new exciting build. I’ve actually been a 3 kit Engi for the longest time (few videos in sig if anyones interested) but have recently been changing my builds almost on a weekly basis!
I really enjoy playing an HGH P/P style now and have been having a lot more success against previously very difficult opponents in WvW (Condi Necro/Condi PU Mesmer). The whole boon duration idea was at the front of my mind whilst I was reading the proposed changes, hence my thread

That is a good point I hadn’t considered. Lets hope they provide something favourable in the boon duration department then.
I suppose “viable” is the wrong word.. “competitive” may fit better.
Losing 3-4 seconds off protection/vigor/regen might not mean the end of the world, but it all helps.
Currently the ability to have 7 seconds of stability helps a great deal against Necros and Warriors. I imagine that if you went onto the Warrior forum and told them that their Berserker Stance duration was going to change from 8 seconds to 6.. you’d get quite a response!

-Rune sets will receive a general balance pass to bring them in line with each other. This will increase the amount of viable rune options.
-The bulk of rune set bonuses will be pushed towards the 4th, 5th, and 6th piece bonuses to incentivize using a complete set.”
Does this mean it is likely the 2nd piece bonus (+15% Boon duration) on Superior Runes of the Water, Monk and Traveller will be moved to the 4th piece bonus? I really hope not, since having 75% boon duration on my HGH build is part of the reason why it is still viable. I think this same question applies to many D/D Elementalist builds too…
Based on ANets statement, I would assume the new bonus layout would be something like this:
Superior Rune of the Water
1) +25 Healing Power
2) +50 Healing Power
3) +90 Healing Power
4) +15% Boon Duration
5) 5% Chance to remove a condition when hit
6) Heal AoE on Healing skill use
I’m not entirely convinced that this is promoting build diversity…

The radius text goes blue indicating an increase from the trait, but still reads the same radius as before the trait was slotted – noticed this last night.
I suppose you could test it with a partner in an empty spvp map. Difficult to tell just by looking at the animation, since I don’t think that changes.

IMO perplexity needs toning down a bit thats all, maybe 2 stacks per interrupt rather than an ICD.
Edit: also I’m not running perplexity on my engi, just in case anyone jumped to that conclusion

I tend to watch OstrichEggs’s stream during the day whilst I can’t get online (normally only when he streams WvW footage). I’d say he is probably one of the best.
I have a fair number of Engineer videos myself, however I wouldn’t proclaim myself as particularly skilled. I don’t stream, however I tend to release one or two videos a week, providing something was worth recording!

Engineer has so many great tools to deal with Thieves. For example – blocking/defensive abilities to stop their opening burst, especially Static Shield which flips the momentum of the fight instantly in a 1v1.
In the fight below I had to fight 3 thieves at the same time, which meant I had to abandon the normal tactics of timing cloak and dagger dodges etc for a far more pressured/frantic playstyle. I know two of the thieves are uplevelled, however they still apply a huge amount of pressure. Plus, I didn’t have my Elite available.
Yes I know, these weren’t great players. But, as many others have pointed out in this thread, Engineers are more than capable of dealing with the vast majority of Thieves and shouldn’t need to complain about them being OP.
