We will be adding a new currency that is similar to Proof of Heroics that will allow you to buy new sigils, runes, recipes, and hero points from PoF.

so all the hero points I have done despite having maxed everything will be worthless? I really do not want to grind through all of PoF just to max out the elite. THAT is a horrible, thankless, boring grind.

No, the hero points already earned will be useful. The proof of heroics will not be.

Just like world completion hero points could be spent on HoT specs, HoT hero points will be spendable on PoF specs.

So you did not waste your time.

And, in fact, you could even use proofs of heroics to buy all of the hero points available to them, and probably get pretty close to maxing a new elite spec. So even proof of heroics are still useful for this, assuming you’re as lazy as I am.

I just hope you are correct, because my level in laziness is legendary.

for me it depends on the character. Ele? Some effects, bright dyes. Mesmer? some effects, very contrast-y dyes. Ranger? No effects, muted colours. Very toned down. Guardian? Black and stylish. Few effects, if at all. Rev? Black and different style. No effects. Necro? Toned down, pale, ‘dead’ colours etc pp. Thief? Stealthy colours, no effects at all.

Basically I want my characters to show what they are through their gear:
Elementalist? I unleash the power of the elements on you! I want you to see me! Be warned! Permafrost white! Glowing coals! Electricity!
Mesmer? I will so screw with your perception. You think this looks unreal? Oh, you will be surprised
Ranger? You only know I am here, because of that arrow in your throat.
Guardian? Here I am, your rock in stormy sea. You are not my friend? Do I smell… heresy? BURN!
Rev? Here I am, your slighty off putting rock in stormy sea.
Thief? You won’t even know what killed you. Now shush, no tears, only dreams…
Necro? You think I have time to be flashy? I deal with death all the time!

So for me flashy is sometimes great and sometimes not. It depends on the character. Also sometimes I change for the environment. My sylvaris look different in TA dungeon than in Orr… since I have a ton of transmutation charges, I don’t have to worry

So, be as flashy or not flashy as you want. Some of us just want to stand out, others want to show off all that hard-to-get gear and infusions/auras they earned. Some want to look normal. Some enjoy fine tuning dyes and armor styles for a very sophisticated non-flashy-but tasteful look. Some just don’t care. Each to their own.

But: I prefer flashy, sparkly commanders over muted ones. They are easier to see…

I don’t duel. I have watched some. When I started I accidentally interfered in one, got told it was a duel, said sorry, backed away.

Duelists don’t affect me. They have their kind of fun, which is different from my kind of fun. They don’t hurt me, I don’t hurt them. Everybody wins.

Except when they duel next to an objective. Than it is not a duel but attack/defense and I will get involved.

But so far almost always they do their stuff where it really does not matter. If I were not on my way back to the party, I wouldn’t have run into them. So who cares? Nobody should care.

On the other hand, I have the chance to meet some new people to befriend, yay.

I tried weaver and what underwhelmed.

Sure the new effects are nice. But less range than with daggers? And less damage?
Also the stances… well, they replace shouts and shouts look more useful. So overall… not happy. Also barrier? Completely useless. 1000, 2000 barrier do nothing when a daredevil hits you for 10k. And then again. Because thieves are special and can do damage just hitting 1 others need a full rotation for.

But even less happy with all those one-shotting deadeyes.

In wvw, after the initial rush you could still see a lot of holos and deadeyes and not much else from the new specs. Should tell you something.

1 weekend I felt underwhelmed. It did not ‘click’ like HoT maps.
2 weekend I am glad it is soon over. Being jumped by a daredevil out of stealth and taken down in a seconds gets old pretty fast. And now they don’t even need to get close. Just stack their bloodlust and headshot you. Out of stealth. Really great. Not.

Anet, why are thieves so god kitten overpowered? And why don’t you nerf them? Last balance patch? Nerf this, nerf that, make thief even more op.

well, I liked the story, the voice acting and especially the map. It is gorgeous.

I am confused about the hostile reactions ‘my charr would never… my asura would never…’

Really? Asura, having the chance to glimps into an old order and ‘research’ its secrets? Asura are known to do anything for knowledge. Charr, after being booted out from the legions, being part of some order, the pact, fighting side by side with humans, even seraph, and you have a problem overcoming speci-ism? Then you were unfit to be a pact commander in the first place. Good thing one was replaced as one…

Norn should not have any problems, first norn to join this exclusive group? Good for the legend. Sylvari are doing everything for the experience… so no problem either. The interesting part is, when those secrets show up in some other sylvari’s dream.

The puzzles were not too hard. The fights were not too hard. The map is nice to explore. I liked the story and the dialogue. Some think that the Priest of Balthasar acted like a child – ever seen an adult bully, filled with adrenaline and excitement? Yes, they act like that.

The only thing that is more or less meh is the new mastery. Could be great but at the moment it is klunky and hardly worth it.

Thanks for reminding me, why I hate PvE

why should a charr, that worked with humans, fought side by side with humans against dragons, joined order that is at least partially composed of humans, have problems working with the shining blade?

At that part of character development, the charr char should either grown enough to see beyond the species – or should not be part of the story anymore.

When I logged on for the first time I really didn’t know much I was a slow learner that stumbled through lvling up. Then one day I hit the lvl that allowed me into wvw the same person told me to go try it because I might like it. When I went in I had no idea what was going on there were fights everywhere big triangle marks over peoples heads * I still didn’t know what a tag was at this time XD*. Needless to say I wiped and I roamed off to a camp where I saw a group of people. I didn’t want to wipe again so I followed them from a far to try and figure out what to do. One of them spotted me and invited me to their party. He eventually became a close friend of mine in guild wars. They taught me everything I know about wvw.

I only started wvw recently (the reason was the Arah reward track. Before I do Arah, I try wvw was the thinking. Can’t be worse.).

So I was totally clueless, tried to do as good as I could with my non-meta-but-I-liked-it triple sigil ele. Yeah, you can facepalm now.

Somehow on one of the early days, I became part of a zerg, told the com straight away that I am a wvw newb. Answer: I can see that. Change this, that. You will survive longer. Btw, here is ts.
I did change, joined ts, where some guy was just making a joke that I probably have a very stupid armor setup as well. At least my armor layout was acceptable. And then they were pretty nice. Giving me links, hints and were overall very supportive.

Since then I play wvw every single day. It is so much fun. The big zergs are still a weak point (fps drop and lag are insane, especially, when the three map blobs run into each other) But the 5-20 player squad has become a sweet spot for me. I am loving it. Even more than doing organized world bosses, which until now was my absolute favorite. I am not good, but I am improving and having fun while doing so.

Yes, the chat can look very toxic at times, but in most cases it is actually just friendly banter. The wvw crowd is surprisingly welcoming and inclusive. Just don’t touch the tactivator.

To finish this up: I fully recommend trying WVW. Don’t be shy. Don’t quit after your first couple of wipes and you will discover a new world of mechanics, tactics, fun and good people.

Just bought the game, why do I regret it?

Things I love about this game:
- the scenery
I can wander around for hours enjoy the views ( especially The Grove/Caledon and Wayfarers/Shiverpeaks/Hoelbrak)
- the npc chatter
A lot of it is hilarious.
- the other players
You took a bite too big for you and lie around dead in some forsaken area of a map, wondering if you should just go waypoint when suddenly some other player appears ans resurrects you. You type ty, the other one np and off you go.
- the other players even more
You took a bite too big and suddenly some other players appear, you automatically work together and overcome the obstacle
- the other players rock
ever stuck in a jp when a friendly mesmer drops a portal?
- the other players are phenomenal
just stand around in DR or LA with your latest kit you are very proud of, and others will congratulate you. player chat is usually very friendly and fun (exception: wvw, there it can be toxic and fun).
- looks
you can be as pretty and fabulous or trollish ugly as you want.
- guildies
nothing to add there. Really. A bunch of people you run around with, being silly and having fun, is there a better way to take down bosses?
- Quaggan
Quaggan thinks that quaggan are the best thing since sliced bread. Quaggan is hungry now. Cooo.

Worst Guild Wars 2 Map?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: VAHNeunzehnsechundsiebzig.3618

VAHNeunzehnsechundsiebzig.3618

For me, TD is the worst map of them all. Because it is so hard to navigate. And filled with Chak. And mordrem. Seriously, I disliked VB at first, but the more I played it, the more I liked it. Same for Auric Basin or Dragon Stand. But with TD the more time I spent there the more I disliked it. There is some great story telling going on. The Ogres, SCAR for example. But the map itself really sucks my will to play out of me. Draconis Mons on the other hand – I love it.

Rata Sum. It is confusing and filled with Asura. Just horrible.

Another map I wholeheartly dislike is Black Citadel. Map completion takes way longer than such a small map deserves. But at least the npc chatter is nice.

Dry Top. If I am not forced to go there, I don’t.

Bloodstone Fen could be much better, with a bit less white mantle mesmers.

On the other hand I like Lake Doric, I love Draconic Mons. The Grove and Caledon are my absolute favs. Queensdale is nice. Gendarran is lovely. Hoelbrak is my second fav. starting area.

And then there are the ‘meh’ maps. I don’t actively avoid them, but after completing whatever task is waiting there, I just don’t see a reason to waste time there. Like most of Ascalon or Orr. Not because the maps themselves are bad. It is just boring there.

They could atleast implement something like a couple-system.

You get a hearty-buff when you and your partner are on the same map, which gives you something like +10% EXP/Karma and get a teleport-to-your-partner-item which is basically a teleport-to-friend but with unlimited use and instead 30-60 minutes cooldown.

that is an awfully bad idea.

People would start ‘marrying’ just to get the buffs/teleport.

And seriously, why should such a thing rewarded anyway? Either those two really like each other – than they don’t need any rewards, or they don’t and then the ‘marriage’ would be just a joke/scam – and does not deserve any rewards

just to balance things a bit:

I am playing for less than a year. That meant that personal story, LS2, HOT and LS3 are pretty much one continuus story without waits.

And I am loving it. Sure, if you are in for years it might feel like a long time, but from ‘play it in one long go’ or even in-character point of view, there hasn’t been much time spent so far.

Zojja has been away for how long? Couple of weeks? A month maybe? 2? Relationship with Caithe is still a bit strained after… how much time in game? 1 month? You free Zojja/Logan a couple of hours later you kill Mordri, when you leave the bloodstone explodes and so it goes on. Even saying that there had only DAYS between ‘Zojja freed’ and ‘Caudecus attacks’ wouldn’t be much of a stretch. Sure there are some in-game comments that suggest otherwise, but while players might have been waiting for many month (or years) the characters haven’t.

The story is fine, the story telling is fine. There is no ‘long time’ if you take the POV of the character. For your asura/charr/human/norn/sylvari it has been a constant thunderstorm.

I always thought that GW2 was about community and working together – that is why there is enough loot for every player involved and you get xp for res-ing a downed player. That is the reason why ‘story’ episodes make it easy to squad up.

If you insist on solo-ing episodes even if you know they will be hard on you, than that is pretty much your own choice and your problem. When I couldn’t do Mordremoth, I asked a friend to help. I could have asked guildies, but they were busy farming

That said, I am in my 40s too. So… that argument does not fly and ‘better computer’ does not fly either. It really does not matter how much hardware I throw at it, as long as I am forced to use wine…

That’s the problem with ANet, they’re balancing based on numbers, not actual playability. Open World was already a pain in the kitten as an ele, but now it’s just awful. Have fun running around in 80 areas getting blasted on by a group of 3+ enemies because the only skills to really survive in those situations just got worse.

it still works fine in Lake Doric, Bloodstone Fen, Bitterfrost, Verdant Brink…

I hardly notice the 7%. But the 25% buff of arc lightning really makes a difference.

I think it would be more epic if it were the other way round. The player being Aurene’s mount. Carrying her big reptile kitten around and then launch her at the mob, like an angry, scaly rocket.

Also Taimi needs a mount. Taimi in front, Aurene at the back. Just the dialogue options give me the chills… ‘stand down, or I will hit you with my magical dragon. Or worse, this chatty asura teenager who never shuts up.’

I am not a good player. Being a linux user and forced to use wine with the fps drop this incurs does not make it better.

I could not do Mordremoth alone. I tried. Again and again and again. Too hard for me.

But Caudecus?

While it was hard and time consuming, I did it. Alone. With a not very robust ele (I tried tank-y ele in the past and that really does not work),

Was it too hard? Nope. Thanks to the fact that if you were killed, you could drop right back into the fight, the difficulty was manageable. Was it annoying at times? Sure it was. Did I rage? Oh yes, I did. But that is something I expect from a boss like Caudecus.I expect someone like him to have some powerful minions. I expect from a boss like him that he deals out a lot of punishment and that all the usual stuff just does not work this time. The fight was epic. Like it should be.

When I finally killed him, it felt so great. So awesome. Don’t make it easier. It was perfect.

Aerlen, if you can’t do a story instance alone, there are always players looking for some company. There is no shame to that. Btw, what is ‘artificial difficulty’?

When I first arrived in Orr, I had the rest of the map at 100%. I had a mix of rare and exotic gear and felt pretty tough. After a few minutes I was desperate. Then I learned. I got better gear and difficulty dropped a lot. Today the Orr maps are… relaxing even. Same with Verdant Brink or Bloodstone Fen. First couple of hours there were horribly painful, but I fought throught them. At the moment VB is pretty and BF a nice, easy way to collect unbound magic…

If the difficulty does not ramp up, you won’t get better. If you don’t get better, you achieved nothing. I like the fact that the same mordrem which scared me 12 weeks ago are now very managable – and at the same time Bitterfrost, LD and the Caudecus story pushed me to my limits.

And if you think lack of depht perception or slow reflexes are bad, try such maps and fights at 10fps (or triple trouble at 4 when there are lots of players…) that is MY reality.

So what I am saying is: there is no ‘artificial difficulty’. Just difficulty. And the difficulty has to increase or it will be very boring soon. Is it fun to stomp on all those lvl4 nightmare court courties in Caledon Forrest, when you are in all asc. gear? Sure. But not all the time.

Nobody forces you to play LS3 or HoT. If you want to you can stay in the Tyria maps. But don’t take away the increasing difficulty for those who enjoy new challenges.

I just crafted the vision crystal. Had all the mats in storage. And then some. Could fill some bags with vision crystals. These things aren’t hard to get at all.

it’s funny to see the different points of view. thieves think they got the shaft again, other classes think thief got even more powerful, mesmers think that now with revenants, they’re not wanted anymore, revenants think they’re stil useless and no one will want them, eles think they got the shaft too, other classes think that the ele is top of the game and got mostly buffs and a couple of well earned nerfs…. opinions, right?

except that I play ele and I am fine with the patch. It makes some of the skills that had prohibitive long cooldowns actually usable. The 7% nerf is ok, IMHO. And the arc lightning buff is something I really like.

hm? mostly they buffed it. Arc lightning got up, lots of cooldowns went down. The overload air nerf was the only thing. And I can see why they did it. It was kind of overpowered.
