plus some people like playing support.
Sometimes I would use a medic build for my Thief to get a change from all the fights. Reviving people in nearly impossible battle situations was fun and part of me is sad to see these kind of builds go.
But at the same time I agree that this is a good change for smaller groups or giant fights that never end.
. Also Wings of Resolve is still affected by cripple and chilled
Testing this right now. So far it’s not affected by chill and cripple.
Can you explain which lines you get? The second line might be just a callout line from one of the 7 boons you apply to yourself.
Did they also nerf guardian trap? I know about aura, Wells and fireballs but beyond that….
Yes. I don’t remember the effects for “Procession of Blades” and “Fragments of Faith” from before the patch but all other traps had their effects nerfed. LB 5 was nerfed as well.
I absolutely love this animation and never understood why they only do it while strafing.
They already announced a fix for this bug here.
We got a response from Anet about the bug here. Seems like we have to wait a little longer but at least we will get a fix.
Finally a new hairstyle and then this The biggest change can be seen with this face. Definitely a texture error. I really hope they will fix it.
but now we’re all seeing a blithering booty-ton of those darn tournament tags everywhere.
Somehow funny that PvP is the only place where you can’t see them.
Just try to spot someone with magnetic aura, which is one of the most dangerous, during a team fight in pvp, i dare you.
I play Dragonhunter in WvW roaming/PvP and already kill myself with True Shot because I don’t react fast enough. Now I don’t even have a chance!
Ok, this is a serious problem for me. The new Aura effects are really hard to see. I’m not sure how I’m supposed to see them on an enemy at range 600+
Elementalist
- “Wash the Pain Away!”: Reduced the visual noise on the effects associated with this skill.
- “Flash-Freeze!”: Reduced the visual noise on the effects associated with this skill.
- “Feel the Burn!”: Reduced the visual noise on the effects associated with this skill.
- The following skills have had their effects replaced with a new version to reduce visual noise: Frost Aura, Magnetic Aura, Shocking Aura, and Fire Shield.
Mesmer
- Chaos Armor: The visual effects have been replaced with a new version to reduce visual noise.
Necromancer
- Executioner’s Scythe: Reduced the visual noise on the effects associated with this skill.
Lets see how many other skills were reduced and not listed in the patch notes.

I want that Crystal Outfit soo bad and I would be glad to pay the normal Outfit price of 700 Gems. But there’s no way I’ll pay 1300 Gems extra for stuff I don’t care about.
So far we have:
- Orbital Strike looks completely wrong. The skill deals high damage but has one of the tiniest visual effects in the game, clearly marking it as unimportant when looking at it. Plus if any dev has ever played C&C, ask them whether they’d like the Ion Cannon to look like this. :P
- Chronomancer wells keep their ground art and the butterfly explosion at the end (good), but lost much of the pulses. Honestly these could be ok, but considering how damaging or fight-changing some of them are, again, the art doesn’t match the relative importance.
- Elementalist Fireball is just… sad.
- Elementalist Fireball affecting other skills is bogus. The FGS, an elite skill having one of the fanciest AA animations in the game, now looks like a pea shooter. Great.
- All Dragonhunter Traps and LB 5 were toned down as well.
- As for Engineer, some explosions for the Bomb and Grenade Kit happen so fast now that they could be missed in combat.
I don’t play many other professions, so I can’t comment for them.
yea im still waiting for an official response ): i want my awesome visuals back
So do I! But I fear this topic might get overshadowed by all the feedback and posts for Raids or the new Legendary Weapons :/
For me, the visuals are a big part of what makes the game fun to play. It really hurts to see what this “visual noise” change has done to many skills for almost every profession. Some changes simply feel “lazy” (just downsize a projectile, reduce animation times, remove some effects entirely) Depending on profession and size of the change, the experience or feeling you get from playing will suffer from this.
While I understand that the amount of visual effects makes it hard to keep track of some fights (World Bosses, large WvW fights or even a few group events), I don’t think this is the way to address this problem. There are still many other skills/effects that obscure the fight even more (Guardian Justice Burn).
On the other hand some effects were reduced so much that in a small encounter you won’t even know what hits you. Some skills are “almost” invisible (Dragon’s Maw, Orbital Strike). Some other have a reduced animation time (Many Engineer Explosives).
I’m not sure what the reason for these changes are, but there are definitely more viewpoints to consider. A great idea many in this thread have already suggested is the extension of the “Effect LOD” option. Let everyone decide for themself if they are in a situation where they need to reduce the effects or if they just want to enjoy the visual aspect of the game.
I somehow feel bad that something like this caused me to make my first forum post after almost 3 years -.-
