How to alleviate silk scrap prices

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Since silk scrap has recently jumped up to a ridiculous price since the release of ascended armors, I have a suggestion on how to alleviate the price issue by making silk more easily farmed. Instead of increasing the drop rate or what drops silk scraps, make it into a node based farmable material: Silk worm cocoons that can be found in trees that you don’t harvest. This would make sense and wouldn’t be that big of a stretch in logic. Make the nests suspended from trees that the player won’t chop down and require sickles to harvest.

If this has been posted before, then I apologize. If not, then please bump this so Anet will consider/see this.

Valuable Metal Scrap to Orichalcum Ore

The following is the data that I acquired by salvaging valuable metal scrap with the 4 different types of kits. No, I did not consider BLSK because that would be a waste.
Key:
mithril = m
orichalcum = o

Crude (15):
21 m(140%)
1 o(6.667%)

Basic(25):
45 m(180%)
1 o(4%)

Fine(25):
41 m(164%)
2 o(8%)

Journeyman(25):
41 m(164%)
2 o(8%)

Master(25):
37 m(148%)
4 o(16%)

Based on these values, I’m going to assume that there is no difference in the type of kit used or the drop rate. The master kit was an outlier but I believe that if the trial were to stretched over a period of 100+ trials the numbers would balance to within +/- 1-5% of each other.

For those wondering about the cost:
115 valuable scrap metal at 1.04s each = 1.196g
0.32s (crude) + 0.88s (basic) + 2.88s (fine) + 8s (journeyman) + 15.36s (master) = 27.44s

192 m → 96 mithril ingots at 0.6s TP(approximately after fees) = 57.6s
10 o → 5 orichalcum ingots at 10.7s on TP (after fees) = 53.5s

Total cost: 1.4704g
Total return: 1.111g
Net loss: 35.94s

Based on these numbers, here is the projected outcome for using only crude kits:

120 scrap at 1.1s (high estimate) = 1.32g
8 crude kits at 32c = 2.56s

120 × 1.4 = 168 m
120 × 0.06667 = 8 o

168 m → 84 ingots at 0.6s TP = 50.4s
8 o → 4 ingots at 10.7s = 42.8

Total cost: 1.3456g
Total return: 0.928g
Net loss: 41.76

What are the rates for the various kits for salvaging valuable scrap metal to orichalcum ore? Since the ore is not a “rare” item, the drop rate shouldn’t be affected by % chance for higher materials correct?

If anyone knows or has results, please post, I will be posting my results on this thread as well.

Just looking for a group to hunt the dastardly creates known as Karka. Intent is harvesting the shells and any T6 mats I may be fortunate to get. Hopefully there are others out there that are doing the same so we may speed each others endeavors.

If you are interested, send me a PM. Thanks

Same problem here so I’m just gonna boycott GW2 until they get this fixed. Doing the same with BF4. If I’m going to play a game, I’d prefer no unnecessary crashes.

Resource Node Visibility

One problem that I have had is whenever I’m searching for a resource node I have a hard time spotting it in-game, especially when the node is small (ie: platinum or oricalcum). What I suggest is to create a method that the name will appear over the node similar to when you press ‘Left Alt’ and the names of allied NPC’s appears. This would save some time instead of a player running around a small area for a while just because of one node. Not sure if this has been suggested before or not.
