For revenant,
Weapon dictate mode of gameplay you want to play.

Sword are for direct damage, melee range
Hammer are for direct damage, 1200 range
Mace are for condition damage, melee range
Staff are for direct damage and cc, melee range

Legend dictate utility skill you want to complement your gameplay

Jalis for survival/tanking, stability utility skill
Malyx for condition damage utility skill
Shiro for quickness/direct damage utility skill
Ventari for healing utility skill
Glint for buffs sharing utility skill

Legend has nothing to do with weapon you are using.
You can combine mace with shiro if you want more poison stack to your enemy.
You can combine it to complement attribute like Mace with mallyx or sword with shiro for stronger condition damage/direct damage.

There is no rule that you must use a particular legend with particular weapon. Anet grant us the ability to change our legend anytime we want out of combat to suit your need.

Some utility are useful for some situation more than other.
For example,
-Jalis’s vengeful hammer are incredible useful for survival and encounter with multiple enemies. You are virtually invisible for the duration since the hammer proc passive healing for a riddiculous amount. Vengeful hammer also can clock large amount of hit with low damage. Useful to remove boss’s buff that require amount of hit.

-Ventari’s protective solace are a must on uncategorized and underground facilities fractal since it blocks projectile.

-Glint basically can give your party permanent protection in case your party having a hard time on survival.

- Mallyx can boon strip your enemies incredibly fast.

basically you adjust to whatever situation you have in your hand and pick legend that best help your current situation.

Myself, I’ve been interested in the Revenant class and might go with my tried and true favorite Norn race, but I’ve been mulling over the ideas of other races as well.

I have to inform you.
Revenant doesn’t get the luxury of having racial skill.

Any race that pick revenant class doesn’t get access to racial skill.

Torment Buff?

I said assuming, to make counting and explanation easier.

I didn’t said rev would deal 30k damage,

i actually don’t know how much damage rev could do since i never test it.

But in the explanation i’m assuming a rev would do 30k damage before patch.

Not much. By my calculation, around 10% damage increase or so.

Previous Torment/Confusion deal 75% of Bleed damage with 150% of bleed damage while moving/casting.

Current Torment/Confusion deal 100% of Bleed damage with 150% of bleed damage while moving/casting.

That is 25% damage increase for torment and confusion only.

Since rev doesn’t spam confusion we can ignore it because the damage increase would be negligible.

Assuming your rev deal 30k dps overall by only using torment, you should gain damage buff from 30k to 37.5k damage.

BUT rev doesn’t only deal torment damage, we have direct damage and other condition.

at least quarter of rev damage come from burn and other quarter come from direct damage, that would make me estimate dps increase from 30k to 33k or 10% to overall dps.

this at least would bring condi rev on par with power rev that get 10% damage increase from part 1 patch

[PvE][bug] Vengeful Hammers heal amount

in Revenant

the healing is actually still bugged, at least it heals decently now but it is unfortunately still bugged, it’s healing for 53 per hit rather than the mention amount of 80 in the ’’new’’ tooltip, in the previous prepatch tooltip the value or number is ’’56’’. so it’s even healing less now than what it would have if it wasn’t bugged before. reason i bring this now is that i play on EU we only managed to get in now. so it may seem like a nice buff but until the skill it self is fixed it’s not really a buff.

posted a picture with a recent combat log and both new and old tooltips for comparison.

Well at least it’s 15 times more. It’s something to be thankful for.

Maybe they wrote the tooltip wrong, since they un-split it with PvP skill, then there should be no mistake.

edit:
Now that i count it, 66% of 80 are 52.8.

I think they also reduce the healing by 33%

We should ask Anet if it’s intended to have the healing also reduced by 33%

8/8/17 Patch

I’m one of the people who wanted to love the rev before HoT launched but ditched it soon after. Would love to hear if this balance patch makes the rev any more playable / less monotonous since I haven’t kept up with the state of the rev enough to judge it very well.

There are no significant damage buff on this patch for revenant for either power or condition build. They just improve the rest of the trait and damage enough for us to no longer become dependant with herald/glint since kalla are coming into play next month.

This patch basically allow power rev to play Shiro/Jalis build decently and buffing survival for rev build by giving Jalis and tanking trait line more utility and more self healing.

[PvE][bug] Vengeful Hammers heal amount

FIXED and BUFFED by 33% with that extra hammer!

It’s not 33% damage buffs. They allocate the damage into the 3rd hammer which resulting with the same amount of damage as before.

The only difference is that the healing from trait and skill passives are proc a lot more often with 3 hammer attack 50% more often than 2 hammer.

I’m glad they finally fix the healing bug since it’s driving me insane having my source of heal gutted.
