My opinion is to stay with guardian, an one between ele/engi.

Both engi and ele requires a lot of muscle memory, apm and practices to get really good at. Although on paper they sound like they play the same (swapping between kits/attunement), if you swap engi and ele too often, you`ll probably end up screwing harder, swapping things that arent there (trying to play an ele like engi, or vice versa for example).

Guardian is just simply a good/stable, go-to class if you want some more relaxing game sessions. I`d probably recommend warrior a lil bit more, but you hate warrior arent you?

So with these you can either go have a more `concentrated/high apm sessions` with either ele or engi and play guardian when you need that `simpler/relaxing sessions`.

I myself settled with Engi(when i feel fresh), Guardian(for simpler times) and mesmer(in-between).

I suspect it might be correlation between my MB and GPU (if there`s such a thing), because I once even started from a clean slate, wiping clean my hdd and started from zero, so software might be less of a problem.
When I did that, there were less, or none as far as I remember about the crashes. But lately the crashes started to haunt me again.
I still use the `stable` Nvidia 3.14 drivers, since the newer ones has problems with other games I’m running.
As a step of precaution, I`ll try look into reinstalling directx and see if there`s any change

My computer seems to crash quite randomly when playing certain games, namely GW2 or other graphic intensive games like Tera/Dawn of War 2. By crash here I mean not just the game, but the whole computer. The screen goes black/white/red/sometimes teal, then the sound gets stuck, and then either it shuts down by it self or I had to do it. On rare cases, it just goes black and gets back to normal after displaying `dvi/hdmi not detected` like as if the monitor wasnt connected.

Apparent changes were noted when I changed my old nvidia card ( I think it was GT 320) to GTX 670. At first I thought it was PSU problems, so I switched from 500 to 750(should be more than enough, I run everything at stock speed). But it seems the problem persists.

Its kinda annoying since I can play other games just fine (LoL, Dota 2), or even in general there`s no display problem or anything. So Im pretty clueless at where is the main source of the problem, is it the monitor? faulty GPU? Does Motherboard affect GPU in any way? My motherboard is originally a prebuilt-MB for Gateway dx 4840, so its quite old in that aspect.

Anyways, I attached the arenanet log here and hope I can find some answers about these random crashes/restart.

I think if the ‘personal story’ as being the obstacle for a race change, why not have “completed story mode” as a requirement for a race change? With one-time-per character only/ heavy cd ofc, to avoid ppl kept switching races too often.

Hello everyone. Im currently lvling an alt engineer. Would love some insights/reasoning behind build+playstyle. This thread is all about general PvE+dungeon.

My big question is: Why would I want to utilize Flamethrower kit rather than Bomb kit?

Do note im still lvling this character. But as far as I’ve been using these two kits/traits regarding them, I’ve found Bomb kit to be a little more reliable than flamethrower.

1. With bomb kit-based build, I can choose to go either melee-based play, or just swap some traits with the grenades for certain scenarios/bosses than needs to be ranged to fight. Compared to Flamethrower/ElixirGun builds, there seems to be lacking in terms of options (in terms of range swaps)

The control seems to be balanced on both side. Both bomb/ft have blinds, distance control(knockback vs aoe snare), although Im not sure how strong is the bomb heal traits compared to Elixir gun’s natural Weakness condition in group setting, without dedicated gears for it(heal power).

2. As far for solo play, bombs really seems to outshine flamethrower. Sure, +200 toughness is not something to scoffed at, but with bomb kit you can just kite the mobs around doing consistent damage without being touched at all.(considering most mobs are melee) Not to mention Flamethrower locks you in the awkward animation for full 2.5 seconds, and unless you have the mob(s) in the cone for full duration, you’re missing some damage ticks. To do so you either have to walk slowly in reverse direction or strafe in circles(which I found probably easy to miss the mobs since FT works with your directional facing)

3. Since Engineer really shines at Aoe dmg, both build seems to be in the same power lvl. Although I really hate the constant targetting issue with Flamethrower.(sometimes it just states Miss even though I was pouring my flame directly to the mobs)

Im not dissing Flamethrower builds, but I think I might be missing something, most probably handling my distance with the weapon. Or it maybe just Bomb kits are generally easier to use. Would love some advice/fixes, or even a good video about using/handling flamethrower.

@Munrock, if you’re playing on Asia, I recommend trying to get into some of the (unofficial) Oceanic Server.

One of the example is NA Sea of Sorrows. Plenty of NZ/Aussie/SEA players/guilds are based on there, and the WvWvW alliance is pretty strong if you’re into it. Although I have to admit, the “dungeon” pve community here seems to be still heavy on the NA players(more of the lfg’ers in our morning/their evening).
