Now that the betrayal and rage is mostly out of my system, I’m beginning to shift my focus on pity towards the developers that have been there since the start of Anet’s design philosophy. This massive change in vision has made many of them look like hypocrites and traitors. You can’t blame them for not addressing us, because they knew their actions were going to be met with boos and egg tosses before the first word of the blogpost was even written.
Gotta hand it to the Anet developers they made it super easy to uninstall. It’s not even in my programs list. Just highlight>Delete key and poof!
16G of freed space!
Glad I dropped hundreds of dollars in computer upgrades to run a game I’ll probably uninstall this weekend.
I guess the invite-a-friend is there to stop the bleeding caused by the mass exodus induced by the introduction of gear grind.
Peace Y’all.
I don’t feel anywhere near the hatred for this move that some of you are displaying, but I do have some reservations about it.
From today’s post by Murdock:
“By adding challenging new combat mechanics to end-game content and ways to mitigate those mechanics through gear progression for high-end players, we can add personal progression without making the game feel like an endless treadmill of gear that is just out of your reach.”
Doesn’t the above statement seem a little contradictory? Even reading it in context, it doesn’t make sense to me. You create new mechanics that can only be dealt with by “gear progression” and then say that this creates a sense of personal progression without creating a gear treadmill. O_o
Am I missing something?
Nope. You’re pretty much just as befuddled as the other 105 pages full of posters.
Holy cow, you would think this gear has already been released and tested with all the QQ going on in this thread. Does anyone think that waiting to see what it is, THEN QQ’ng would be a good idea? I understand the desire to not want a gear grind. I am also 100% in this boat and have no desire to get on that carousel of fail. But… I am also willing to wait until this new gear is released before slamming a game I have enjoyed so much, so far.
If I’m diagnosed with Stage I Lymphoma, I’m not exactly going to take a wait and see approach if I’m already a cancer survivor.
It’s not going to help my feelings about it calling it Ascended Lymphoma, either.
Hi kids. Today’s word is: “extrapolation”. Extrapolation means creating a tangent line at the end of the known data and extending it beyond that limit.
The known line is 2 items with minor additional stat bonuses within 2 short months. Extrapolate that to 12 months or 36 months and you have a character that’s exponentially and disproportionately more powerful than a character that only played WvW, sPVP or jumping puzzles.
People are crying about a “treadmill”, this is no treadmill, this is just a single step.
Yo do realize what a treadmill actually begins with, right?
My roommate in college told me about a girl in his journalism class that played Guild Wars 1. I married her.
She posts on these very forums with much more passion and verve than I.
GW2 was supposed to be the game that revolutionized the genre to not be about the gear treadmill. After this article about gear creep, she and I just had a discussion about quitting MMOs altogether. I mean, in 30 years when games look like I’m in the Matrix, am I still going to be threatening to quit because my stats aren’t good enough anymore?
Change the MMO landscape like I know you can. You’ve got millions of us on your side!
Well it finally ran through this morning. I’m not sure if had anything to do with the fact that I ran it solo instead of with a guest.
Yup the fixed has allowed me to see the first cut scene so I can play the first 2 and a half minutes until the next blocked progress issue. “Defend the Front Gate” stalls and the zombie army is MIA.
Yay! Glad to see the data was found. Thank you for the update!
Maybe it’s the same data that’s messing up those Asura Gates!
If I knew choosing one order over the other would lock me out of the armor style I wanted, I would have completely disregarded roleplay to choose the corresponding order to look how I wanted. Alas, I resent picking the order I thought suited my character because now I currently cannot look the way I want.
Hoping for the ability to change orders.
Still broken. At this point, I would do a complete story do-over. Incredibly disheartening…
Forging the Pact (Co-op. Did it twice because it didn’t give the option for the guest to accept progress.)
Striking Off the Chains (Splintered off into this story branch.)
Wet Work (solo)
Willing Captives (solo)
The Battle at Fort Trinity (Bugged at the beginning. Npcs speak of broken gates. I talk to Trahearne. Cut scene does not trigger.)

Gonna try after tonight’s patch.
The video Konahrik posted shows my exact bug. I was doing the Order of Whispers line with my wife. We splintered off after the Pact for some reason so we decided to play our separate stories. We though it might have had something to do with choices we made at character creation.
I ended up helping the Norn gal in the underwater portion and freeing prisoners from Kraitt. Spoiler: She was kidnapped and my character said she'd come back for her later.
Afterwards, I was sent to The Battle at Fort Trinity where progress has halted.
Character name: Natasya
Race: Human
Class: Thief
Order: Order of Whispers
Level: 80
World: Jade Quarry
Same issue as others in the thread. Had done personal stories solo since The Pact, since that was the last story I was about to do cooperatively. Now at The Battle, I can no longer even progress. At this point, I’d be fine with an entire story wipe to start over.
If I knew staying true to what my character would do would deny me access to how I wanted my character to actually look, I would have discarded any roleplay aspect the personal story had to offer in favor of picking the the styles I would ultimately want.
Going with the roleplay ended up punishing me by keeping me from styles that are available in game. I agree with the OP 100%. As a hero of Kryta, my character needs access to standard issue gear given by the alliance of orders.

Same issue. Wife and I have been doing personal story together. Our stories split up and when we went to meet at at Battle at Fort Trinity, she was able to progress while My character was stuck after the opening npc conversation.
It may sound crazy, but this is my #1 request for my Guild Wars 2 wishlist.
This game isn’t balanced like a fighting game for 1v1. I don’t think any MMO has actually pulled that off. Wanna go 1v1? Go to WvW, find a loner, and start a fight. It’s what I do.
It’s way more interesting than the environments I’ve seen in cities where it’s just mindless duels that litter the streets.

This has been a hot topic on few different fourms and it would be nice if the Dev’s would comment on this.
I’m glad it is! Hopefully devs respond to this after they stabilize their infrastructure. Or go ahead and do it now with all the bankroll I’m sure they’re making!
No joke?! That would be glorious!
Thanks for the replies. Hopefully this will be implemented at some time.
Ah geez, I picked Whispers because I thought it fit my character but now see I am locked out of using the Vigil Armor style I much prefer.
Please allow Order changes or style availability at SOME capacity please!
