Wow. That would work pretty well actually. A 1 second blind would probably do the trick.

Only if you do not use Shadows Embrace or got at least 2 conditions. Or am I wrong?

Ideally it would work in a way that had a prioritization schedule of events that all happened virtually instantly.

1.The Blinding Powder would fire off and check for reveal

2. No Reveal = Activate Stealth

3. On stealth with Shadow’s Embrace trait = remove an existing condition

4. Apply 1 second of Blindness AFTER condition wipe

The next Embrace wipe wouldn’t trigger for another 3 seconds after the Self Blind would have already expired.

The programming would have to set up prioritization in this way so that it would work in conjunction of Shadow’s Embrace removing any unwanted conditions before applying the protective blind in a immeasurable period of time when the trait activates.

A simple yet seemingly outlandish solution would be to …. Blind the thief!

What the ehhh? You say?

Think about it. When you are stealthed and blind no matter how much you swing nothing happens, blind stays, attacks miss, you don’t lose stealth nor the blind condition… But most importantly, you aren’t revealed.

So keep the trait the same but have it also trigger a 1-3 second blind condition on stealth application only ( so if already revealed only enemies are blinded ). This guarantees you cannot accidentally reveal yourself. You get your oh kitten moment to evaluate your situation and get out of danger. Just a thought.

Sigh… After this nerf thieves are a joke in pve now. 33% dps reduction for a lot of builds…. I guess I could go to s/p… Wait, they already nerfed that by 15%… Um. -trades in daggers for pom poms-

Every trait you have got nerfed by 25%, so did your damage and survivability.

Neither 25% or 33% is remotely accurate unless a player lives almost solely in stealth which pretty much nobody does.

This combo is just as viable with just as much damage: Steal/Mug, BS, HS, HS, HS.

Sure there are thieves that live in stealth but those are primarily griefers. All they did was add 1 second of out of stealth damage when coming out of a stealth attack. It will have an effect but not nearly 25%.

99% of thieves who play use stealth.

Holy hell… 1 extra second on the reveal absolutely cannot effect a thief by 25% or more. Period… cannot be done and under any circumstance. Do people here think for that one extra second a thief is standing still not using some non-stealth attack/skill or that most thieves constantly spam some in-stealth attack?

Only players who stay in semi-perma-stealth by spamming CnD or the like the entire time will notice a significant drop in DPS.

It does have an actual 33% affect on long term dps of several builds. One example is a 10/30/30/0/0 build that uses a CnD BS followed by full AA chain for poison then CnD again to repeat combo. If I don’t need to heal or purge conditions you won’t even notice me go into stealth because I keep positioned at the side or back of the target. This nerf kills that Rythm and lengthens the time between repetitions by 33%. So does it do anything to a single burst? Not at all but long fights against bosses and large groups will definitely feel the effect.

If you know how to play them well they can have both indeed. I always bring excellent dps with mine and in wipe situations am usually the last/only man standing. If you honestly believe your statement you are doing something horribly wrong or have found some terribad thieves to group with.

Do you really want to say that the fact you are the last man standing adds excellent survivability to the party as a whole?

Never specified it’s for the party but stealth rezzes and group stealth for strategic setups do add a nice element on top of their substantial dps and staying power.

Who do you target?

so many bads, target other thieves lol.
Among all the mirror fights, thieves produce most draws. Never target a thief.

at the present, all necros and warriors are sure kills, tanky mesmer easy, dps mesmer more of a gamble if time was limited.
glass guardian, unless very very good, will take no more than 30sec, next to that bow rangers and condi engi. Ele with staff aren’t often seen in tourneys, but if you find one, merry Christmas to you then.

d/d or s/d ele with 0/10/0/30/30 and gs evade rangers are draws. bunker engi can’t be brought down without stuns, and bunker guardians will take a while. These draw fights should be avoided unless absolutely necessary or you get to double.

Well this would depend on your BUILD wouldn’t it?!?

I assume you’re talking about D/D thief. In that case, thief vs thief do not produce lots of draws. It ends really fast because they are both squishy and both do a ton of damage, the only thing separating them from death is their stealth. So whoever’s stealth wears off first is usually the first to go.

And it happens VERY often. I’ve seen it firsthand.

I have no clue what you say about necros being sure kills. They’re definitely more difficult than most of the other classes you listed.

Warriors are again, not sure kills but gambles. They output a ton of damage and can easily one shot a thief with axe f1. Not to mention their wide array of stuns.

No clue about thief vs mesmer.

Glass guardian will take shorter than 30 seconds, most likely. They share the same base health as the thief, so if they’re glass, they’re going down to one combo. Proper bunker guardians are, as you mentioned, unkillable 1v1.

Trap rangers counter thieves.

D/D eles give thieves a lot of trouble as well. Even bunker eles can dish out a crapton of damage.

Nothing is unkillable. The trick to bunkers is their overconfidence. Work them down to about half health with basic hit n run tactics try to blow a couple of their cool downs if you can, then before they can heal up basilisk up and finish em when they least expect it. Works like a charm. Also sig of shadows ranged blind attack is perfect for dropping a guardians aegis just before your big combo leaving them wide open for a quick kill.

I had no problem surviving with P/D I just felt like killing took too long after playing a good backstab build. It’s a fun diversion and great for harassing small groups of enemies or preventing caps but I like quick kills too much to stick with it

You bring high damage and excellent survivability to a party

Thieves? Excellent survivability to a party? Perhaps in P/V/T gear, 30 in Shadow Arts/Acrobatics and only to yourself, but then your damage will be pitiful low.

If you know how to play them well they can have both indeed. I always bring excellent dps with mine and in wipe situations am usually the last/only man standing. If you honestly believe your statement you are doing something horribly wrong or have found some terribad thieves to group with.

I gotta say this is probably one of if not THE only guild I’ve ever been in, on ANY game, where every member is respectful of every other member. The GM and the officers all work very hard to keep a solid friendly and fun community within the guild and good relationships with other WvW guilds that makes the game a lot more fun to play than it otherwise would be. If you’re looking for more of a family than just a guild, Cynical is a good way to go.

I can think of ways all the classes I play could solo kholer. I can’t vouch for the ones I don’t play however. A thief could do it with nothing but 3 buttons, caltrops, dodge, range weapon of choice auto attack spam. Sure would take awhile but that right there just defeated kholer’s mechanic. To speed things up Id just drop 20+ stacks of bleed on him every time I topped off my initiative.

A defensive warrior can tank him straight up, even take his big hits head on, I do it all the time. Mesmer can solo anything that can be kited with clones. An engineer could keep him crippled and spam him with knock backs and grenades and actually probably kill him any number of ways. They are quite versatile.

Judging from what I do know I’m sure a good player could find ways to manage the feat with any class.

There is a big difference between the solo farms from GW1 and having the ability to solo a boss in a GW2 dungeon. In the latter case it’s 100% about doing it just to prove you can. The time spent vs. reward is so much worse doing it solo than it would be with a fast, effective full group that there would be absolutely no reason for a dev to look at it as problematic. It wont hurt the economy for someone to walk into a dungeon by himself and walk out 30 minutes later with his shiny 3 new tears and 1.25 silver and small vial of karma.
