Just had a 1v1 with another thief east of the desolation garrisson in the desolation borderland, and I must say it was a lovely experiance. We kept it up for 7-10 minutes and I was on my edge all the time. Might be one of my best wvwvw experiances so far.
So if theres any chanse that the asuran thief from vizunah, tag [ATA], reads this; thanks!

I completely agree with you Krumhur. But it’s too late. Don’t expect Anet to reverse these changes at this point. And heck; even if they decide to implement the previously suggested change, that you would always get revealed after a stealth (which id welcome however the situation looks like), I highly doubt they would reduce the revealed back to 3 seconds. So we better learn to play with it, however clunky and off-track it feels.

I’m not too aggravated about this simply because it makes Infusion of Shadow (10 pt SA) somewhat less mandatory for D/D pve dps. I would much rather be playing 25/30/0/15/0 and now I won’t feel as bad for doing so.

While I do agree that just adapting to the change is the only way to go (changing proffession seems way to drastic) I still feel it hit PvE needlessly. Dumping infusion of shadows for other points might be a way to go. The problem is that your all-over survivability does take a hit with no points in Shadow Arts. Im just switching it out to use both shadow protector and cloaked in shadows (last one not being as good, it sure aint at the point of being bad unless we’re talking bosses). Maybe just keep 10 points and stick those somewhere else and switch between shadow protector and cloaked in shadows like I used to.

The part I don’t like is sitting back watching my autoattack while having a sip of tea. Maybe keep infused, and just throw in a heartseeker between the auto-chain and the next CnD? Not that it’d be effective until your target is at lower health.

And don’t worry about Henrik, he’s been going berserk across the thief sub-forum all day, not bringing anything constructive to the topics, so just leave him be. Don’t set fire to all that fuel he’s leaking out of his rare like my old clunky car.

Well, my concern is PvE, and while I won’t give up my thief because of this, I am worried about others doing so; theres competition in PvE aswell, and as it stands thieves aren’t that appreciated compared to some other classes. Im worried that I might get kicked from just playing the proffession I enjoy the most, and not based my skill-level. So far I have only experianced this a few times (before even starting the fractals), and even tho it shouldn’t happen at all, I know that to some degree it will (ignorance, guildy jumping in and whatnot). Just don’t want that degree to be too high.

I wish Anet thought the decisions through in every aspect. I don’t PvP at all, but if the devs thought a stealth change was needed for the PvP balance I trust that it was. I do not however see how it is a good change when it hurts another aspect of the proffession needlessly.

I do trust that if it gets out of hand, the devs will compensate, atleast in a PvE environment (and by that im not counting WvW).

Death Blossom didn’t quite get a hit. But like Dasorine said, even keeping your bleed stacks up on a higher number will be hard with p/d. The change took damage harder than defense, and PvE more than PvP.

I read the forums alot but don’t post alot. But this patch just confuses me, so I felt I had to get my opinion shown to Anet (if they even read the thief forum considering the sorry state its in). I focus almost exclusivly on the PvE content, where stealth is used as a offensive tool rather than a defensive, that is unless you get an enemy on you (well, regen on stealth is somewhat defensive). First comes the change that going into stealth does not lower your current threat on the target (so I made a decision to lower my toughness and increase my vitality), learned to adapt my playstyle around it, forcing me to switch to pistol + pistol every so often and heal up with Unload. Apart from that I mostly used dagger + dagger for damage, or sword + dagger for control, that is, being focused on stealth. The one second increase to revealed is massive for any PvE thief. I think Dirtyshame hit the nail here, and I hope the post is read by a dev. A good thief uses different weapon settups depending on the boss, and thus the dagger offhand can’t be neglected. I would have welcomed the previously suggested revelaed changes. It could have removed the cheese in Wvwvw while not having a huge impact on PvE. Sure, chaining stealth to run through mobs, I guess.

Like I said; I read alot on the forums, so my general understanding is that thieves are hated because they’re annoying and cheesy in Wvwvw, and weak in PvE. Those are not my opinions. Its what I pick up from the forums. While those opinions are partly ignorance, it shouldn’t fully be dismissed. Sometimes there’s something in it.
So this one second increase to revealed that hurts PvE thieves more than PvP (for me theres no discussion about this, really…) and I can’t get my head around it.
It screams a sloppy last-minute change in my opinion. They had to know how this affects PvE. Atop of this; wheres the increased mobility they talked about in return for the stealth changes?

Sometimes I almost feel ashamed to bring my thief in PvE contents, not because I do a poor job, but because of the forums, and this does not make it better. No matter; I’ll stick to my thief, learn to adapt once again, it fits my playstyle and I put alot of effort to it. Neither would I want to give up hope. But I still felt I had to give word to my thoughts this time. I think this was an uncalled for nerf to PvE thieves. And no, I do not count WvWvW as PvE. I know thats the devs view of the concept, but it should be obvious that they can’t balance them both the same way.
