How you concluded with buying traits on the gem store is beyond me.

If you want to come up with absurd ideas, there has to be a better one than that.

Anet forgot about GW1 players?

GW1 is an entirely different game. Game GW1 players do not ‘deserve’ rewards in GW2. It’s nice that they provided a link, but that’s because Anet chooses to.

If Anet released a Torment weapons in their gem shop in GW1, hey, I can understand.

But GW2 is an entirely different game and you shouldn’t be holding it as a leash to GW1.

If they ran past you, fine you got something going.

But often I see players who do not play smart.

If you are 25% downed and you notice that a mob nearby is low health and currently being attacked by someone else, what is the smart thing to do?

Heal yourself?

NO!

You tag that mob so you can rally as soon as it’s dead.

If I see 4 normal mobs ganging up on a downed player, I 100% of the time will not rez you immediately. I can kill 4 normal mobs quicker than it takes to rez one player while taking hits. And I certainly expect players to realize this and tag the mob so that they will rally right away.

Typical.

Anet loses money, people will say the game is dying
Anet makes money, people will point out it’s short-term and the game is going to die anyway

It’s a lose-lose on these forums.

So I guess I was right!

Funny how everyone there said it was impossible they would be razing it. (I would be one of those people though, to be honest)

Gotta give credit to Anet though for preparing for this for such a long time and learning from the southsun event. Of course, time will tell if we will end up with massive lag. They are splitting up LA into defendable zones though, so at least that will alleviate graphics lag.

This is exactly the type of Living Story content I was expecting. I wanted permanent, noticeable changes that would leave a mark on the world and remind you of what happened. They did that with minor changes in the Southsun event, as well as the 2nd go around in Southsun with the camps. They improved on it with Kessex Hills and Tower of Nightmares (and we still have the clean-up going on).

I hope LA does not get rebuilt in a few months. I hope that it takes nearly a year for it to be restored to it’s former glory, but at least makes some noticeable improvements (like restore each district once a month)

Dangerous precedent: Watchwork Pick

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Vol.7601

If you haven’t noticed, a new infinite mining pick has been released which also provides a 20% chance of sprockets.

I have absolutely no problem with infinite tools. They are convenience.

But a chance to get a material that cannot be gathered by other tools? This is P2W.

When scarlet is gone, we more than likely will not be able to get sprockets anymore outside of two sources – the node in your instance and these picks.

It doesn’t matter that sprockets may not have as high value, and that 20% is still low. It sets a dangerous precedent, however, of introducing unique, non-vanity features to future items to generate sales.

Seriously Anet, take this from your no.1 fanboy – this is not cool.

The ‘best’ compromise is to provide older unlimited tools with a similar bonus ore. But personally I would prefer if there were no bonuses at all. Just leave the animation there and sell it for 1000 gems.

edit1: as another mentioned, the other best compromise is to include other temporary picks with the 20% chance, i.e. orichalcum pick with 20% chance at watchwork

Molten Alliance Pick Bonus Items?

I have to agree here. Usually I defend Anet against the unreasonable fanbase, but I think this new pick is enroaching on P2W territory. It doesn’t matter that the sprockets are cheap, but the fact that it does give you extra items over your standard pick is not good.

Unlimited picks are convenience, which is fine. Unlimited picks which give out extra loot which is not accessable by normal picks is not.

[Interview] Living Story Plans Changing

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-01-14-you-thought-that-was-it-for-guild-wars-2

Extremely good article all around that touches a lot of topics. Big one here:

“Concern: ArenaNet won’t stop banging on about the Living World update plan and so will stick with it even if it’s not working.

Not true. ArenaNet is changing it this year.

The original idea was to have four story teams making a month’s worth of content each, to be released in fortnightly bumps, and whatever mechanical features were ready at that time could be rolled in and included. ‘An online world updated more frequently than any other’ was the dream, but the reality was confusion.

“It’s very distracting to players,” observed Johanson. “It’s almost a muddled message, where we put these releases out and we want them to be excited about the story, to follow the story, and we also want them to be excited about the features that are coming with it. And either one or the other tends to be the thing that people cling onto.” And the other thing, people ignore.

“What we’re going to do this year is we’re actually separating the two of those out.”

All the big mechanical features ArenaNet is working on will be held back for a bumper update presumably in the spring/summer.

“When [Living World Season One] ends [on 4th March], we’re going to take a break for a little bit and then we’re going to do one really big feature patch that is more akin to what people see from some of our [MMO] competitors,” said Johanson, "where they bundle a lot of features together into a really big patch every now and then.

“We’re going to provide that experience and have this huge feature build that has a whole lot of gameplay-changing elements, a lot of quality of life improvements, a lot of features bundled together into one big patch. And that’ll come some time not too far after Season One completes.”

tldr: expansion in summer
