there’s no reason to take 2H Mastery with a hammer because hammers have no DPS skills. You are better off investing those points elsewhere.

Well, yes, and because of how quickly SoP is recast, the extra tick from WoP is a huge DPS increase for hammer. This is something you did not take into account in your testing. So you’re right about the other hammer skills, but you’ve misjudged hammer by about 1 on your scale by misjudging the full effect of WoP (it’s closer to 14 instead of 12.5 in my testing). At the same time, your DPS weights given for GS to both binding blade and symbol of wrath are inaccurate for sustained DPS, as neither can be cast inside every 10 second window (the only measure you’ve tested) because the cooldowns are much longer than 10 seconds. That in my mind is going to drop GS down below hammer (with Writ of Persistence) for sustained DPS. But as you wrote in the other thread, we’re going to need to see exact numbers on activation times for proof; it’s close.

Meanwhile yes, scepter is #1 for guardian DPS. Who’d have thunk it.

I guess I was misreading the combat log. It shows the third hammer hit as an SoP hit, and when traited you get 5x SoPs in a row on the log.

Still, 243+135 = 378, while 243+135+45 = 423. This puts writ of persistence as nearly a 12% DPS gain. This is pretty significant and I’m certain that with that trait MB becomes a significant DPS loss (given that MB adds no significant damage but WoP most certainly does). I’m not even sure Greatsword can catch up to that, but I haven’t tested it.

On the one hand, Hammer is very good DPS because if you check it on the golems, the hammer symbol ticks four times from anywhere from 400 non-crit each on the heavy golems to 1000+ crit on the light. On average I’m getting 2500 damage every time I lay down a symbol for every creature in the symbol, and have gone over 4K from a single symbol several times (in which case it exceeds the hammer chain damage itself) .

On the other hand, the symbol damage is a lot better than what MB is giving me in a similar time frame. And if you take Writ of Persistence over Two-Handed weapon spec, you increase that already high symbol damage by 25%—at that point it will be more than half your damage.

As such I’d recommend going with both Writs to maximize symbol damage, and only use MB as a gap closer against players (who tend to move out of symbols) or as an advantageous combo finisher (and a light field doesn’t warrant it).

Underwater Elementalist is horrifyingly underpowered

I thought all classes were weaker underwater. Then I played a ranger with a shark pet. It takes my elementalist forever to kill a mob due to all the kiting required and the pathetic auto attack damage between my long water cooldowns. With the ranger it’s simply send shark→cast piranhas→collect loot. Seriously, my mercy shot misses more than half the time because my target is already dead. Shark pet > elementalist profession in the water.

It’s just the title and description of the forum in French, not the actual posts, but it’s the only one appearing in French. The rest are English. It’s a bit strange. I do speak French as well as English, and sometimes swap languages in game, so could that be part of the problem?

Elementalist PVE Leveling Trait Build Scepter/Dagger

Yes, very. Scepter/Dagger is the most versatile with the most CCs (two blinds, two knockdowns), the best earth defensive move, two water heals (one with a condition remover) and the best fire burst damage. I’d get rid of the lesser elemental, though, and use arcane shield instead. Three blocks is an amazingly good defensive cooldown for when you pull extra mobs. I also go 10 water to reduce the cooldowns of my water heals, though I may switch to earth or arcane at some point to try them out.
