I’m playing a Bear Bow Ranger right now, early levels. It’s not a problem yet. I’m looking to later PvE content, where I’m afraid things will do more damage or even one-shot me.
Unfortunately, it’s more of a reaction time problem.
Am I fooling myself by thinking there is an option that can get by with almost no dodging in PvE?
OK, thanks again, guys!
Tom, what is a Druid Ranger? I’m just a regular Ranger, I think? Also, how do you avoid having to dodge? I just don’t have the reaction time to pull it off with any consistency.
Hey guys,
I’m new (well, just really playing for the first time) and I’m kind of at a loss. I’m in the human starter area, at a monastery by some swamp. The human area is done as far as hearts, and the swamp is too high level. Where do I go from here? There doesn’t seem to be an obvious path forward.
Thanks!
Do engineers drop turrets or anything that can “tank” by drawing aggro?
OK, thanks a bunch guys!
As for Engineer, would that work as well as a Necro or Hunter, as far as not having to dodge much? With no pet for the mob attacks to be directed at?
Hey folks,
I’m just coming back to GW2 and I have a couple of questions:
1) What’s there to do at endgame? What are my options when I’m max level and log in?? I’m strictly a PvE player, no PvP.
2) A hand disability makes it difficult for me to move and attack at the same time, as well as dodge attacks. I just don’t have the reaction speed. What would be a better choice for a pretty stationary, “turret” type build that doesn’t have to dodge much: Ranger or Necro?
Thanks for any advice!
Hey folks,
I haven’t played for a long time. I don’t know my password, I had it auto-pop when I logged into the main website.
Anyway, when I try to change my password, it asks for my e-mail address. No problem. It then asks for my serial code which I apparently received in an e-mail when I purchased at the game’s release. I’m sure this was deleted years ago. It also asks for the name of a game character. Hell, it’s been years, I don’t remember.
Am I screwed? This seems like a crazy level of security to change a password…I mean, when I logged into the website, it already sent me a confirmation code to my cell phone that I had to enter. How paranoid are these guys??
Thanks for any advice!
“Try before Committing — Try playing your profession at max level in the Silverwastes before committing to make the boost permanent for this character or to use it on another character”
What are the Silverwastes? Is that a public test realm?
I don’t think I want to use an 80 boost, at least for a while. I want to explore the game as I level, which Is something I haven’t taken the time to do before.
OK, thanks! I looked at my account and it appears I do have Heart of Thorns. How hard would it be for someone with my issues to get to level 80 on Engi? Someone asked for more specifics on my limitations. Basically, I have slow reaction times which limits dodging, and I have trouble moving and attacking at the same time. I understand that I will be limited in what PvE content I can do. I don’t PvP at all.
Is Scrapper an advanced class? I don’t see it at character creation!
Thanks so much for all the help, guys!
Hey guys,
I got advice on this before, but it was a while ago, and I’m not sure how much things have changed. Basically, I am looking for an easy-to-play, mostly stationary class/spec, mainly for solo PvE. I am terrible at dodge rolling. Does that leave me with a ranger with a tank pet? Or is there something else that might fit for me?
Thanks!
What would you like to play?
I’m open to almost anything! I prefer DPS over tanking and healing, but I guess that doesn’t really apply in GW2.
What is a Druid Ranger? Is that new?
Maybe we can come up with some builds for you to play and see if it works for you.
OK, do you like “left dodge” on the mouse wheel? Or press the mouse wheel + a movement key?
OK, thank you. I’m not that familiar with the game to know exactly what PvE content I’ll be doing, but I doubt I’ll do any “raiding.”

So far, I’m finding that with a bear tanking in open world PvE, I don’t have to dodge or move at all really. Not sure if this changes as you level. I do expect to have to do some movement and dodging on world bosses, but that’s OK. Will I miss out on much if I don’t do dungeons or raids?
Enjoying the game a lot, BTW. I have a friend here from LOTRO and that’s a big plus.
Just want to say, it’s awesome to see everyone helping this person.
Yes! I appreciate it so much.
Is it necessary to weapon swap much in casual PvE? I’d prefer to stick with longbow if it’s viable.
Other classes do have minions, but they tend to be temporary summons with long cooldowns, so somewhat annoying.
My recommendation would be condi non-reaper Necro. The rationale for that is condi allows you to stack your conditions then move if required without losing too much dps. A power build would only cause damage while you are engaged. You can also take vitality or toughness without nerfing your dps too much. Necro because it is more versatile ranged condi than ranger, a good deal of ranger condi skills are not ranged (traps, torch 5). Non-reaper because normal shroud is ranged but reaper shroud is melee.
I know I’m making quite a lot of assumptions about your abilities, I apologise if I took it too far.
Not at all! I don’t know how my problems will affect my gameplay at this point. I don’t know what some of the terms you used mean, yet. LOL!
I don’t think I’d recommend revenant, or any non-minion/pet class for HoT content. Most require a fair amount of dodging and kiting to survive when solo, so without something to take aggro, the experience will likely be frustrating
OK! I started a Ranger so far. My choices are either Ranger or Necro for a pet/minion class, right?
Oh, haha, well nevermind that. It’s a new class that is a part of Heart of the Mists expansion. Sorry for even saying that.
I have the expansion! Is it a class I can play? Sorry for the duh factor LOL.
What, exactly, is a Revenant? It isn’t listed under the Professions guide!
How much dodging will I have to do in solo and group PvE? Is there a keyboard setup that’s recommended for fast, easy dodging?
Thanks again for all the help!
OK, thanks a bunch! I’ll check into the controllers, although I don’t think that my hands are so bad that I could do better with my footsies.
What are the Diving Goggles??
Hello,
I’m new to GW2. I have a partial disability which makes it hard for me to move and attack at the same time. I have a gaming mouse, but it doesn’t help a ton. Is there a class and build that might work best for me? A friend suggested some form of Ranger with a pet to tank for me.
I’m 100% PvE, no PvP. I don’t care that much about being super skilled or having all the best gear.
Thanks for any advice!
