I hate to post a “ME TOO!” but…
I posted at the end of last season how I was making steady progress to the end of div 4 and then ANet changed the matchmaking system. At the time, I was 10 wins from div 5. After the change, I was stuck. I played 100 more matches and never got closer than 7 from the end. Now, it’s even worse. I’ve made it into div 2 and it’s blow out after blow out. The ones I do win give me 2 pips, which suggests that I wasn’t SUPPOSED to win it.
I really hope ANet is not happy with this system. I don’t personally know anyone who is.
I don’t think its fair to say they test nothing. I’m sure they do test, but once the changes are opened to everyone, all hell breaks loose. I commiserate with the OP. I was progressing up through Ruby when they made the last change. BAM! After 70+ matches, I can’t leave tier 4 (except to dip into 3.) I agree with every other frustrated poster that something’s wrong. Is it my own skill? I made it to this point then hit a brick wall, so I’d say my skill seems to have little to do with it. On my main, I’ve got almost 150 ranked wins. So it’s easy to say “just get better” but I think there’s a lot more to it than that. And if MMR really was frozen a week ago, then that would explain a lot. But I haven’t heard ANet say that.
Someone asked what I expect from a competition. I do not expect this. I expect it to be hard but before last week, I saw reasonable forward progress. FWIW, I have not been up against any named teams lately so I can’t blame that.
Bottom line: This ain’t fun anymore. It clearly seems to be broken. but since we only have a few more days, I doubt anything more can or should be done. Play your alts!
I have been stuck in Division 4, Tier 4 for a week. I average 10 games a day, for those 7 days. My best position was 4.4. my worst has been 3.8. I have encountered very few named teams but sometimes the scores are wildly lopsided. From my own experience, it feels like the game doesn’t want me to progress. that’s reinforced when I read explanations like the one above dealing with MMRs. In the end, it is not fulfilling in the slightest. Worse, I know people who have lost 10 and 15 games in a row. Why even bother to play? These losses aren’t their faults. The teams lost but the teams were decided by the algorithms.
But again, playing 70 matches and moving up and down on tier 4 is not at all rewarding.
It does say when you’re about to run out of time, but it doesn’t say you’ll lose the 100G investment forever if you don’t add coins. Things would be different if we had known that.
Yes. I was out for about 2 months. When I returned, it was gone. Again, no warnings or explanations that this is how it works.
I agree, bloody. The arena is tied to an individual, not a guild. Hopefully with the new Guild Hall structures, that will change.
Thanks, but according to Customer Support, we have a 2 week grace period, then it’s gone forever.
12 months ago, my guild collected funds for a custom PvP arena which I then purchased. Over the course of the next 10 months or so, we used the arena and continued to feed it coins to keep it going. Then we missed a payment resulting in the permanent dissolution of the arena.
I have contacted Customer Support about this and they suggested I make a forum post.
At no time were we told or even warned that not making a payment would result in the permanent destruction of the arena. We invested over 100G in it including the continuing payments and now all that is gone forever.
1) I don’t understand why we had to continue to pay a fee after having to pay such a hefty premium for the initial “kit”
2) I could understand that the arena would become dormant if we didn’t continue to pay a fee and that is in fact what we all thought would happen.
3) I don’t understand why the arena was in my name and only I could make changes to it.
4) It seems that all of these items are incongruous with other aspects of the game, especially now with the new Guild Hall system.
In the short term, I would like to have my custom arena reappear so that we can use what we paid for. Again, I was given no warning that it would go away forever if we didn’t keep paying.
In the long term, I’d like to see it be part of the Guild Hall system. It makes perfect sense.
