And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?
Our blood has bought their lives.
I didn’t know dungeons need a tank. #LearnNewThingsEveryDay
I dislike the trinity and very much like what anet has done to keep it out of their game. I like that I have options with each class. I’m glad that my guardian can be a DPS truck and a cleric (not that I would ever do that because why?) but I’m happy to have the option.
Playing how anyone wants is awesome. I’m sorry that without the trinity, however, you are not playing how you want. But trinity games are a dime a dozen, but there aren’t many like guild wars 2. And that’s nice.
There are different options for classes? The majority of dungeon groups only care about berserker stats, nothing else. The way these dungeons are designed and the lack of a trinity only makes ONE build viable for each class. Why bother going tank/healer when you can have 5 warriors hitting 2 on GS every 6 seconds?
Even GW1 had a class purely for healing, which meant problems in missions/dungons were solved and your entire team didn’t have to suffer the dreaded ‘wipe’ every 4 seconds because of the lack of an aggro system. There is no dedicated healing class in this game, which means 2 things in PvE:
• Dungeons are chaotic and the mobs/bosses are uncontrollable.
• Open world PvE such as boss events only require a ton of players spamming 1Just because the trinity is used in many other MMOs doesn’t make it a bad thing to implement. Anet tried to be ‘original’ and took a step towards ‘Every class can do everything’ and that hasn’t worked. They tried to fix what isn’t broken, and they’ve pretty much destroyed the group system. To sum up PvE: Get zerker gear, spam 1, dodge when it’s required, spam 1 again, repeat.
Games like Rift have solved the problem of only 1 class for 1 role by making each class have multiple roles. Which I was hoping for in this game when I heard there was a trait system, but to my disappointment Anet has infact done the opposite and then removed the only class that was able to handle the chaos in groups.
I don’t really want to bash on the anti-trinity crowd, but dungeons are just not enjoyable when everyone is running one build, and that it’s the only accepted build in the majority of the playerbase.
‘Play the meta-builds like GW1’ – Guild Wars 2
I really don’t get your crowd. Go play a game that has the trinity, why is that so hard?
I don’t play the meta build, i make my own groups, no one cares. I roleplay and RP walk in dungeons, because they are my groups. Join better groups! There will always be a best group. There will always be a best build. But the wonder of gw2 is that you can do anything you want to, literally, and still complete the content.
Sure we don’t want “lf healer”, “lf tank”. We currently have “No necro”, “No ranger”, “heavies only” (lol), and the most controversial “zerk only”. I argue it isn’t inherently better than your hypothetical case.
“No necro” is because they lack group utility, “no ranger” is said by people who either don’t understand that ranger is extremely solid or because they feel that if they allow rangers to come in they’ll get a bearbow. “Heavies only” is said by people who don’t understand that heavy classes are completely average in DPS and blown out the water by thieves and eles. In regards to zerk only – well I don’t see how “need a healer/tank” is any better to be honest. And if you don’t want to run zerk – don’t. I just did an Arah p2 run with two rangers (using bears!), an engineer, and an ele. I didn’t gear check any of them. We just did the path. Also, the group filled extremely quickly. Sure, I had to solo the abomination, solo Lupicus, switch to guardian to Alphard for reflects and then switch to thief to help them with the final skip – but to be honest if I wanted quality players I’d just play in guild.
what have you demonstrated? CC would have a meaning by itself if i was for it was used to interrupt for example a party wiping attack from a boss, but in pretty much all case it is as anecdotic ad an aegis popped by a guardian again in a decent group, it just made use avoid losing dps by dodging, it is all to maintain the dps as high as possible.
You CC the golem so that it doesn’t one-shot your squishies. You CC the tar to stop it burrowing underground, spawning all of the adds and inflicting a minute of burning on your team. And like I said, your tanks and healers in trinity games are intended to maximise DPS by allowing the DPS to maximise their uptime in doing their rotations. CC and support in this game to exactly the same thing.
With the defensive side of this game as being nothing more than an improvised offense, ANet’s bound to drive away at least 1/3 of any target customers because people enjoy being the monk. People enjoy being monks. It’s what they like. It’s the reason they play MMOs. And that’s really all this will ever be, is the inability to play the way you like because the way you like isn’t actually in the game.
If people enjoyed being monks, then if I recall correctly, the designers of FFXIV wouldn’t have needed to incentivise people rolling healer classes. The fact of the matter is, most players like playing DPS and tanks and healers are scarce in trinity games. More importantly, this game was advertised as having no trinity, so if people wanted to play monks … then they shouldn’t be playing this game in the first place.

Re: every “Exploiting Spider Queen” post ever
If being melee, which restricts a foe from using ranged-only attacks, is exploiting, then staying at range to keep enemies from hitting you with melee-only attacks is exploiting. Nerf all longbow exploits!

For me PUGs are everybody that are not in my guild or I don’t know. They are random people that complete my dungeon group in PvE or follow us in WvW. They are random so they can be better than me or really bad. They can have a good build or a bad one. They can be full ascended or in full blues. They can have experience or be a newbie. They can use the same strategies as me so the run go nicely, they can have bad strategies and i need to explain them what they did wrong, or they can show me a new or better strategy for a specific part of a dungeon. They can be really nice people that i add into my friend list of even invite in my guild or they can be real pain in the *.
PUG = not a member of my guild, or some other guild which requires proper gear and builds and tests for skill. PUGs usually run terrible builds (eg. a Wave of Wrath-spamming guard who came straight from LA without retraiting or changing gear).
Just finished running AC p1/3 with a naked PUG team. Please don’t make dungeons easier.
I’m sorry, but no. Right now, you don’t get to toss around the words “bad” and “l2p” in regards to PvE. It’s too mindless. You can practically afk through most encounters.
When and if stacking is removed and players are forced to actually play the game as it was intended – THEN you can throw some measure of “skill” and elitism into PvE.
You gotta stop doing AC runs all day. Venture into arah and higher level fractals.
