More than anything I think they need to make structural changes to some of the WvW maps. They’re highly imbalanced at the moment. Being in a particular position gives you a more or less likely chance of winning, and that shouldn’t be the case.
Hills vs Bay is a great example of this. People have been talking about this since launch and nothing has been done yet.
Lowlands keep in EB is incredibly imbalanced. It’s twice as hard to take as either of the other keeps.
The entire red sector in EB needs a massive overhaul. Just looking at the placement of structures on the map alone makes that obvious. Seriously…people come on to the map and are like “We got Anz to T3? I didn’t even realize that was possible…”
Honestly, I’d rather they overhaul the maps before making ANY other changes to WvW. They’re just, plain, broken.
…and, if redesigning these maps will take months to get to, why not switch red and green on the existing EB map? Shouldn’t the top server have the hardest area geographically to defend and the third place server have the easiest with the keep that is the most difficult to take?
We share a common history… a relationship forged in the ghetto…
Yes, we’ve had more than our fair share of fights… said things about one another in public forums… even posted pictures and videos of each other, but it really was all Glicko’s fault, baby!
No one understands you better! Let’s put the past behind us and move in together…
As others have stated, we’d welcome you on SF <3
No-one is disputing that something had to be changed, that is not the issue, but like I have said before they have now just moved the problem to T7. It wasn’t fair on ET/FC so why is it fair on HoD/NSP?
Still studying for my Bachelor of Gaming in Glickology, but:
T7 is not T8 – you guys are not stuck here with SF for months. All servers in T7 have the ability to move up or down. In T8, the only way out is up and it was not possible due to the Glicko issues that have been discussed, ad nauseum.
T7 was too balanced and too far for T8 to reach for with the depressed scores of the ET/FC. From the posts here, none of the T7 servers were looking to advance or battle new opponents. This also contributed to the problem. If GoM, HoD and NSP love playing each other non-stop, it is still possible, but you all will have to choose to meet in T8.
The band-aids that A-Net used will make T7 reachable if another server wishes to move up because it is decreasing the gap that existed between the tiers.
I have enjoyed the battles here in T7. Last night at Umber was fun. NSP’s zerg coming in from Bravost trying to take it from us and HoD’s zerg arriving thru ogres at the same time. It was an epic 3-way fight. The clashes are in game are so much more fun than the one on the forums.
NSP & HoD – Last week: You were probably wondering how the ‘free transfers’ were going to affect your match-up. This week: You get to face SF in your match-up, and we’re fresh from the Glicko ghetto.
SF – Last week: We’re wondering how the ‘free transfers’ were going to affect our match-up. We got exposed to some higher tier guilds/tactics (…and yes, they do zerg, too – sometimes offensively, sometimes defensively). We had the opportunity to learn from fighting against them, not alongside them. This week: We got moved to tier 7. Some of us are still experimenting with what we learned from last week all while having a great time playing with our friends (guess that’s a zerg) and doing what has to be done to advance ourselves.
GoM – Last week: you were probably wondering how the ‘free transfers’ were going to affect your match-up. This week: You got moved to the Glicko ghetto and may be starting to understand SF’s recent pain. You are currently winning your match, but bleeding Glicko ranking points to both ET and FC. I personally hope the rest of the ‘fix’ from A-Net addresses this inequity very soon.

(I just might have to add this insightful quote to my signature line some day if the sig police ever find me.)
scrap the rating altogether…
Winners move up a tier, losers move down a tier…FIXED
This would constantly test the match-ups and provide some needed volatility to keep WvW matches interesting. Movement in both directions is equalized. Placement in the tiers would actually get to where they should be and then this sytem would continue to test the accuracy of those placements. It’s simple, it’s logical … therefore, they probably won’t adopt it.
I just double-checked and all NA servers are now “Very High” – that includes ET and FC.
Tier 8 is a ghetto fight. For those that want to try to exit it, it is about the scores. You may not like the way we fight on SF. We’re ok with that. The other two servers in our match went from “Medium” population to “Very High”. They received Tier 1 & 2 guilds. We’re still posting scores 2.5x as high as they are. Pretty tactics may win a battle, but it doesn’t win the ghetto war.
We could fight prettier and just sit in the lead in Tier 8. We’d rather move up.
