Personally prefer D/F. Decent damage and great utility.
Personally prefer Dagger/Focus. Provides good damage and utility. Four second invulnerability is a godsend, especially if you time it in PvP when the enemy is unleashing a massive damage combo.
You might not be making good enough use of your CC’s. We have a lot when in trident mode. There is an earth and water ability that makes them sink, the lightning one that makes them rise. The Lightning cage that stuns them. There is a water one that puts a shield between you and them, two cripples and two blinds as well, plus a teleport for keeping them farther away. Overall there is a lot of CC stuff, I’m probably missing some here too, but you should be trying to juggle the enemy as much as possible. Keeping them at bay.
People ALWAYS complain. It could be the most balanced game ever made and people would STILL complain. It’s often a vocal minority that complains too. And it suckskitten when the developers listen to this minority because they are often the least skilled players who have no idea wtf they are talking about.
Granted the games not perfect, no game ever is, but if you’re getting utterly rocked, then YOU are probably the problem.
These threads are so dumb, especially when the game hasn’t been out for long.
“X killed me repeatedly, X is OP!”
“I can’t kill people with Y, Y is UP!”
If you’re dying to X try changing your strategy when fighting X. This game is not a simple MMO, the combat is very complex and deep. It takes more than a week to master and completely understand.
Elementalists are not glass cannons. Stop trying to build them that way and expecting them to be that. We have more versatility than any other class and that is huge. I’m loving ele play in PvP and PvE and having no problems whatsoever. Adjust how you play if you are having problems, but stop telling arenanet to change it because it’s too hard for you.
Elementalist has the advantage that we can switch between 4 different skill sets depending on the situation. No other class has that kind of versatility. If you’re only using 2 attunements of the 4 then you ARE doing it wrong. Each has a purpose, you need to recognize when that purpose is and use it then.
Fire – AoE with condition damage and area denial
Water – healing, slows, regeneration, stun.
Air – individual DPS, stuns, blinds, knockdown.
Earth – defense, bleeds, cripples
Look at all of those options, if you aren’t taking full advantage of every single one you are definitely doing it wrong. Elementalist isn’t your traditional wizard from other MMOs, sitting far away and hitting with one time high damage spells isn’t their job description. You picked the wrong class if that’s what you want. If you want the class with the most versatility in any situation however, then elementalist shines.
On top of that you can FURTHER customize it by switching weapons before a fight. Anticipating a big group fight, grab your staff for AoE. Gonna be one on one, pull out the daggers. I personally prefer the utility of the focus versus a second dagger though.
