You seem to be the one complaining. First you rant about how poorly anet is responding. It’s one month into the game…give them a little time. They fix the bugs they know they can fix, THEN deal with the ones they can’t figure out right away. Be patient.
Elementalist do not have “gutless” damage. And you’re not locked into a role. Elementalists are one of the most versatile classes, it’s not the classes fault you don’t use it right. If you’re having problems with “one-shot” mechanics then you probably built full glass cannon and whine about dying all the time.
“I am the 17th person in my community playgroup to leave what could’ve been a truly outstanding MMO.”
Congrats! Want a cookie? Your whole post screams of “Waaaaaaah gimme candy or I’m leaving”. Good riddance.
Have you run any explorables at all? I’m gonna say you haven’t, or you’ve run very few. My post in no way states that, infact it very clearly states I’m merely leaving till the sun shines again. What you’ve perceived as “Wahh give me candy” is me working with what immediate numbers I do know. Are you 12? Is this how you rationalise information given to you in a post? I think it’s time you learnt how to assess things a little better.
Again, you’ve missed the several times I stated that their poor response is going to cost them in todays MMO environment. Please, go read the thread, then come back and have a rational discussion.
Good lord, so many people that don’t read a thing, just jump to guns and go nuts. Like i’ve said many times now, if you’re not interested in reading, don’t bother commenting here. This thread isn’t to get you to leave, this thread isn’t to complain about a “high skill cap”, this thread isn’t to talk about how I wish our class was a 3 button spin and win like Warriors.
This thread is to bring to focus the fact that people are now beginning to leave the game due to things OUTSIDE of those issues, namely, the method ANet are using to “fix” Elementalists. I can’t see how that can go over ones head so easily. I’m saying this for all the people that won’t. For the many that will go “WTF MOAR NERFS AND NO FIXES, FFFFFF!” and just leave without saying a word.
Seriously, how are people overshooting it this hard?
Some of the responses here made me laugh. If you READ (Look at all the words, digest them properly) my original post, you’ll see the reason I specified for leaving is the manner in which ANet have prioritised “fixing” our severely bugged class. I can attunement swap, I have it “figured out”. I can bunker, I can survive, I can pertain. The simple fact is, I didn’t roll this class to do those things, and the manner in which ANet are reaching the level the class should be on is wrong. No, this isn’t my first MMO. No, this isn’t fanboyism, loyalism to another company, or an attempt to incite useless politics. This is my reason for leaving the game, and I feel it’s important enough that it needs to be brought to light.
If you cannot read, and cannot comprehend why it’s important that people notice this being a reason to leave the game, then simply don’t comment. It’s clearly gone over your head. Just remember, for every person like myself, who posts their rationale behind leaving the game, in hope that others see it, and something is done, their are thousands that are likely to get profusely frustrated, and just leave. It’s all well and good to say it’s only a month in, etc etc, but the reality is in todays MMO environment having so many things flunked 1-Month into your release is a big problem. Gone are the days where people will wait several months for things to get in order, most impatient players won’t time-out and come back like I will, they will drop it, and head straight back to WoW, because it is absolutely polished to a shimmer.
Pinkerton, STOP COMING INTO THREADS TELLING US HOW GREAT YOU ARE. You have provided ZERO proof, and no one really cares. I’ve been told by many I play with that I’m one of the most capable elementalists they’ve grouped with, or played with, but again, we digress, because this has NOTHING to do with my first post. Also, if you’re honestly of the mindset that people leaving your class in large amounts makes you a shining star, then the real issue has gone over your head, and that’s people leaving the class (possibly the game) in large amounts.
Given the new information that ANet are now going to be setting up their top tier PvP as a Paid Entry system (Can you imagine the outrage if Blizzard charged you to play high tier Arenas?), I really think this should be more of a concern to more people, but hey, if you’re in here pulling out lines I never actually wrote trying to whittle this down, then you’ve probably missed the general scope of the issue.
My elementalist can be “amazing” at surviving, and providing AoE support, given that’s pretty much our only option right now, but it’s certainly not any form of amazing in PvE or PvP when attempting to deal damage, and my experience is having multiple classes at Level 80. To think that elementalists are all around the ball amazing at PvE and PvP, you either haven’t played all the classes at 80, or you’re delusional, or both.
Far and away from this, it wasn’t my main point of complaint, ArenaNets poor response to fixing bugs and glitches in our baseline skills, was the point of my post, and my time away from the game. If you’re not aware of THOSE, then you’ve effectively spoken for yourself, and can take your non-sensical or warranted posts away.
I don’t know whether to continue investing time for the legendary weapon on my ele…
Still fun in wvw with our mass aoes but pretty much useless everywhere else atm.
I was roughly halfway towards having mine when I stopped, I feel your feel.
After the October 7th changes to the elementalist, I’ve decided to leave the game (temporarily, hopefully). I have not decided to leave the game because I am a rage fuelled keyboard warrior, I have decided to leave the game because ArenaNet have responded very poorly to the trouble our class is having, especially when we consider the priority in which they’re doing things.
Rather than prioritising the MANY bugs and glitches in our baseline skills (the lone thing stopping our class from being competitive / desired), they’ve put the focus on nerfs, poor balancing, and making some skills totally worthless (GoR I’m looking at you).
I could roll another class, I could pick up an ENTIRELY defensive spec, and I could sit here and keep slugging it out, but why? I didn’t roll an elementalist to spec into defense and have gutless damage. I didn’t buy GW2 to be locked into a role, in sub-par PvE content. Infact, I bought into GW2 because we were promised the opposite. Classes were meant to be diverse, capable of all roles, and content dependent on team co-operation and ability. Thus far my dungeons have consisted of mechanics that get me killed in one shot, and in some cases have me literally zerging mobs till i die, respawning, then zerging the same mobs, till the event timers tick over. I mean, really?
I understand that issues take time to respond to, but this is borderline insulting to anyone who picked an elementalist, and this is why I’m posting this.
I’m posting it because what’s going on here isn’t okay. It’s not acceptable in todays MMO economy, and I honestly thought ANet would know better.
Given all this, I’m not going to log on each day, and sink time into a game that is currently receiving such a poor response in terms of bug fixes, and balancing. If a staff member is reading this, get your stuff sorted! I am the 17th person in my community playgroup to leave what could’ve been a truly outstanding MMO.
To other players reading this, don’t bang your head against a proverbial wall and ruin all good hope of lasting with this game, just leave it, and come back later, when hopefully ArenaNet have decided to give it some love.
Just specced into Evasive Arcana, and it’s not working for me. Anyone else having this problem?
@Razerei I main a mesmer and I’ve only been playing Ele for like 2 weeks. I Have played the majority of the classes and know which of these are hardest to play for me etc… etc..
Play style plays a large role in the difficulty of a class. so to just Sum up Ele as being a much harder class to play i think you are extremely mistaken. In many ways I find Mesmer a harder class to play than ele when not running the Illusion does all your damage build. And same for warrior with a greatsword. You are a 1 trick pony and you have to ensure your trick lands. This is all opinions formulated from playing against some of the best players in the game. You can throw out the Spvp shet I base none of my experiences from that. And I take no credit for stomping a 90% win ratio against garbage pug teams in tourneys.I’ve restrained myself from saying this until now
I find ele a extremely easy class to play, You spam skills and have a good amount of success without any specific rotation or order, you just dominate while spaming like you would button mash in tekenThat perspective is against the average joe. You can mash buttons on an ele with a good build and destroy. With the signet heal the faster you mash the more healing you get, that to me = a win – win scenario.
@Boozer, What you say is very true in many ways. What you may fail to realize is that there is very little money in Spvp while there is a potential to make loads of money in competitive tourney play for Anet. So balancing the game towards a more competitive nature would benefit them more as a company and lets face it, money makes the world go round. Those with money could give a shet about human emotion.
Also the builds that require “High risk” end up with little reward in any pvp scenario. High risk for high reward builds dont work in PvP. People think better than AI. Stick to high risk high reward builds for PvE and try to find a more balanced consistant build that can do both damage and Defense. Otherwise your doing it wrong. And if your doing it for fun than by all means do it your way and have fun but dont QQ when your not winning.
I really liked all your responses and rebuttal, until this. You really dialled yourself in poorly there. You have no affirmation of whether your friends are or are not the “best players in the game”, and the generalisation that you can skill spam and beat average joes easily is obviously wrong, or we wouldn’t have half the amount of people complaining about the class.
Also, High Risk = High Reward builds certainly can work in PvP, for the player that is ready to cop it sweet when they don’t.
You’ve been able to help a heap of people hear, so please don’t feed into the trolls and cheapen your opinion with cruddy posts like that mate.
Since other classes are doing it; post your highest crits here!

8.9K Fire Grab on a Thief in PvP.
My human female elementalist
What set / armor piece is it that’s giving you the fire down your arms? So cool!
I got infracted for putting “bumpity bumpppp bump bump bump”. Lol. But seriously, we need this to be looked at. The elementalist can’t compete with other classes right now… AT ALL! If it isn’t a bugged skill that doesn’t hit its target then it is a trait that doesn’t work.
Lmao! They can take the time to infract you, but not the time to chime and say “Hey, we’ve seen the thread, and we’ll update you soon”. Oh well, lets just keep this in the headlights. Getting tired of seeing “no eles” at the end of every group advertisment.
I will bump this until we get word from Anet on the elementalist.
Me too bud.
I am now thinking what each and every elementalist is thinking.

You guys, this game is about builds. If your elementalist can’t do much, it’s because you haven’t set it up properly.
Your healing isn’t supposed to be amazing unless you spec heavily into it
Your air give GREAT damage. heavy air is all about stacking heavy power/prec and knowing how to avoid damage.
There goes your posts credibility, soaring out the window. It is my sole wish that I could stack air through the wahzoo and have D/D lightning hitting like a truck, but it doesn’t, no matter how hard you stack it. (Yes, I know. I run a very heavy power/prec sPvP build at the moment)

BUMP this guys! Don’t let this fall down. There are some seriously great suggestions in here, and an enormous amount of bugs that need fixing!
Unfortunately, I agree. Our elite skills are pretty lacking. as D/D I use my greatsword in PvE, I use the Elemental in Dungeons (Mind you it dies in the blink of an eye), and sPvP I use Tornado. WvW I’ve yet to find anything worth popping.
This is a great thread, and really needs some attention from the devs. The discussion over elementalists being sub-par are rampant in a heap of places, and I legitimately think with correctly working skills, and minimal tweaks and buffs, we’d be in a great spot.
