My Take on HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

This is nothing but my own humble opinion. It has been 5 days since HoT has been released and I have a very strong feeling about HoT. Here is my take on it after 5 days.

HoT feels more like a very large living story update more so then an expansion. If you stop and compare an expansion from GW1, you are taking dozens upon dozens of new zones, multiple new classes, hundreds of new skills, etc. HoT, to me, is nothing more then a very large living story with content, for a change, that is permanent. You can look at it even more like this. HoT is nothing more then 4-5 very large “feature” updates that we used to get before the living story. Guild Halls could have been one, New World vs. World maps could have been another, new zones to kill a new dragon another, new class another and so on. In a nutshell, HoT is nothing more then a glorified mega update/living story that we had to pay for.

With all that being said, I have enjoyed what HoT has to offer so far. I am just disappointed that there wasn’t more and I don’t get the “this is a whole new expansion to the game” vibe. To me as a GW1 veteran, an expansion will always be a new standalone game within the game that provides you many new areas and many new sources of content that will last for a very long time. I just don’t get that feeling from HoT.

Please feel free to post your agreements or disagreements below.

Thanks

Any chance we will be given the requirements on what it is going to take to get a guild hall soon? I am sure I am not the only one in this boat that would like to know what it is going to take so my guild can start saving. Thanks.

Trait Saver System

With the update coming out with trait resets being free, is there any chance we can get a feature that saves trait set ups? Just like the build set ups from Guild Wars 1, it would sure make life easier to be able to save traits and load them when the situation calls for it. Example: You want to go to WvW from PVE but use different set ups. With just a couple clicks of your mouse you can change your traits to another set of traits you created previously that you like to play with in WvW. If at all possible, how about build set ups as well. It remembers the healing skill, elite skill and utility skills you had on at the same your saved that trait line. Just my 2 cents.

Suggestion: Add option to use whole stack

Yes please. This should be a relatively easy addition.

Just had a new idea for the skill portion. What is instead of fading out, when it is done there are snake like tendrils that come from the sword and attach themselves to all nearby enemies. Then you see some awesome animations and sound effects then they are dealt their damage. People around you might hate the whole fade out thing. This would be a good compromise. They can still see and fight and still get a new Legendary specific skill effect.

I appreciate your comments guys! I agree the skill would be a nightmare to make but how else can you think of a benefit to get a legendary? I will admit the ability to change the stats is nice but how often are we really going to use it? The odds are that we will find the stats that complement our builds perfectly and then they stay that way for months on end if you don’t change your traits and skills around very often like I do. The skill would allow you to do something others can’t do. It would certainly make your weapon more Legendary. I am curious though. How would you modify a Legendary currently to make it more Legendary. I am not sure you can deny that they don’t seem very Legendary right now. How would you modify them to make them more awesome?

First of all, let me say how much I appreciate the recent love legendary weapons got with the addition of Ascended weapons. With that said, here are my suggestions on how to make them more Legendary then they really are AFTER the update.

1) Better Stats. Again, I am eternally grateful for their buff but Twilight, max damage 1,155. Really? Max on an exotic is 1,100… When I learned that Legendaries were getting a stat update, I was thinking something worthwhile. I’m not saying make them max damage of 2,000. Maybe an extra 150-200. Something to make it more noticeable base damage wise.

2) Better Infusion Stats. This one doesn’t specifically apply to only Legendaries. Infusions seem pointless outside of Fractals. +4’s you get for laurels seems really low and also not enough to really make the Legendaries stand out. Remember, these are legendary weapons. They are supposed to be the cream of the crop. I know many here won’t like legendary buffs because they don’t have one or want one but sorry they are legendary, they should act like it.

3) Legendary Specific Skill. Ok, read through this CAREFULLY before you hate me. What if Legendaries had a skills that comes with it? Use Twlight as the example here. What if this specific skill had a cool down time of 1 full real world day. Using twilight, what if when you hit this skill, you thrust your sword into the air and chant something like “I Call Forth The Power of Twilight!!!!” or something awesome along those lines and it takes 5-10 seconds to cast. When it is done, the screen for all players nearby fades and your screen looks like Twilight for a very brief period of time and during that time you hear some awesome sound effects like enemies getting hurt badly. When it fades and you are back into fighting mode, all enemies within a short range have lost a good chunk of health which naturally is scaled to the level of the area. It doesn’t have to be a one hit kill but its something that makes the Legendaries exactly what they are. Legendary. Also, this skill is PVE ONLY!! It can’t be used in WvW or PvP so there are no unfair advantages as it relates to WvW or PvP. Think if it as your ultimate “oh sugar honey iced tea” skill.

Again, I am grateful for their recent love but I personally still feel there is more that can make them legendary. The stat changes is amazing and I never thought of that so thank you for that one. I know many here will hate me for this and call me arrogant or some other bad things and that is certainly your right to do so but can’t you really say you wouldn’t go for a Legendary if these kinds of things were implemented. I welcome all comments! Thanks for reading

I still haven’t logged in to experience the rest of it since I did the rox and the w/e the charrs name event, nor do I care to. Why bother with temporary content?

Temporary means you are forced to log in within a certain time frame to get everything done and see it all, that is BAD design. Enough of this living story crap, I don’t care for it.

It also just a total waste of all the hard work the team did to put it in the game, only to be seen for a month. I mean really that’s dumb. I feel kinda bad for those designers.

Wasted potential!

I must say I almost find myself in agreement. I found the dungeon to be fun and beautifully well done. Why is this going away? The time spent developing and implementing all of this could have been put else where like Guild Halls, nicer looking armor designs, better stats on legendary weapons and other higher end gear or reworking the ending of the story where Zhaitan just sits there and lets us shoot him to death slowly without reacting or perhaps the next expansion that has us face the next elder dragon and continue our quest towards ridding Tyria of the dragons once and for all. My intention is not to make people angry but these are just my humble thoughts.
