It’s absolutely disgusting that they don’t acknowledge that the problem is on their end, offer any kind of actual help (repair, reinstall, memtest, etc all have failed to work for the majority) and will also refuse to give a refund. I’m tempted to get in touch with my bank and ask that they credit me back, but I’m guessing the timing to do that has expired. What an absolute mess. Way to trick people into buying with the illusion of good customer service! I’ll never buy another Arenanet product again.
Too complicated for my blood. I guess I’m just shelfing the game until it gets fixed, which could be never. Thanks a lot Anet!
Panik/UVTC how do you go about doing that?
I found out that Guild Wars 2 does not work correctly with Windows 7 x32 .
Simply right click the Gw2.exe and choose Properties. Go to Compatibility and then choose Windows XP Service Pack 3 in “Run this program in compatibility mode for”.
This worked out for me, hope it works for you guys.
Well I tried this for Windows 7 x64, and my game froze within 2 minutes and disappeared from my computer. The music kept playing but the program was no where to be seen on my processes. And when I tried to relaunch, nothing happened.
Horrible customer service
Arran are you getting the “corrupted files” crash message?
I’m glad some people are getting fixes, but for the rest of us who have no errors in our Memtest, what are we supposed to do?
It seems like there is an awful lot of issue with the GTX 570, but so many others have caused issues I feel like it can’t be specific to that.
I tried Nickas:
- Run the game as Administrator (right click the .exe and make this setting)
- Vertical Sync on
- Frames Limited to 60
And the game crashed in 5 minutes.
I tried Mraz’s suggestion of playing in windowed mode and the game crashed faster then I’d ever seen. Instantly after double clicking my character to start loading the world. Usually it crashes once the world is loaded.
There’s definitely a problem with the game. My guardian crashed earlier in an event in the zone south of Queensland. Ever since I’ve been unable to log into that character. As soon as the game loads up, it crashes instantly. However, I can go on any other character in another area and be fine (for a few minutes anyway). There is some issue with the game when it’s trying to load something specific that fails. But instead of trying to figure that out, it’s easier to just say we have faulty hardware or something.
Well I swapped out all 4 sticks of RAM and every single time I crashed within 5 minutes of playing. I’ve run memtest and it found 0 errors. This is so absurd, the game is completely unplayable. I want my money back.
It’s a bullkitten lazy excuse because they don’t know what else to say and the memtest will, unfortunately, back up their claim. Except the memory is likely failing due to part on the software. This just means that they’re going to end up shelfing the issue and all of us are going to be SOL when it comes to the issue. This isn’t going to make its way into the rounds for repair. Really sucks because this is becoming so much how BioWare handled SWTOR. I thought ArenaNet was going to be so much better. Guess in the end, none of them actually care about their customers
Paul, this is NOT a hardware issue. If your game is the ONLY one that this occurs with, there is something wrong on the GW2 end. And thanks for answering based on someone elses corruption files and NOT the original poster.
So it seems there isn’t anything common throughout our set ups. It’s the actual game that really does have corrupt files. And there is no ETA so this likely won’t be fixed. Horray!
I’mg lad we finally have someone from ANet recognizing that there is a problem. I’ll re-attach my most recent log file, but yeah the .dat corruption files can’t be added here. I’ve got TONS to send if you find a way for me to pass them along.

Yeah, real well done. The installer says my 1TB external HD is “out of space” when I try and download it, despite the fact of it being, ohhh 10% full? How did this amateur stuff not get caught in beta?? Is it too late to request a refund?
Yes this is because of a hardware failure (or failing). The files that your computer are writing to the disk don’t match up with what they are supposed to be, which is why the game crashes.
Your memtest results pretty much nailed the issue, which sucks because you have bad hardware
. Hope you get this resolved and back in-game!
-Bill
So Bill, you’re saying he has faulty hardware because it works for every other game EXCEPT yours? Now, call me crazy, but that seems like there’s something wrong with the game and not the hardware…
I’m installing the game for the 5th time now. I’m trying it on my external HD but it’s an HDD just like the one in my PC so I don’t know if that will change anything. Also, it’s less than ideal to be running games from there. I hope ArenaNet actually acknowledges the issue and can work to trying to fix it, rather than ignoring the whole mess entirely.
Does anyone have a second computer to test it on? I’m wonder if it’s hardware based, or if certain IPs are being forced to download corrupted files?
My game was installed to my HDD and it has been having these issues all along.
is this the error?
—> Crash <—
Assertion: A file was corrupted in the archive. Please run once with ‘-repair’!
File: ..\..\..\Game\Main\MainCli.cpp(510)
Yes. Repairing does nothing. The launcher will act as if it’s fixed and your game will still crash as it always does.
Is that like a external HD or something?
I’ve re-installed 4 times, it seems like there is some issue with the download where they can’t send clean files. I wonder if there are packets of corrupted files that they’re passing around in certain regions.
I wonder what else we have in common that is causing this issue. Any response from ANet would be absolutely lovely!
Well, do you have the same graphics card as us?
As I said in the first post, I’ve reinstalled 4 times already. It doesn’t help. It seems there gtx 570 is causing an issue, and it’s not related to drivers. If only ANet could give us an answer and stop ignoring the issue.
It’s very annoying that I’ve seen a lot of people posting this in different forums since these were closed. I’ve emailed, messaged them on reddit, etc and no one will respond to the issue. It seems to be something they’re content ignoring since it’s only a small population suffering.
And the crash log

Can corrupted files be from graphics driver?
I seem to suffer from frequent crashing (10+ times a day, sometimes with upwards of 10 in an hour). They seem to come out of no where, and have happened when I’m all alone in the middle of a zone, or in a populated area, or towards the end of an event. I’ve reinstalled the game 3 times (currently waiting on my 4th attempt to finish downloading). I’ve repaired over 6 or 7 times and I’ve submit countless different tickets. My game has permission to pass through my firewall, and I don’t have any intense settings there anyway. Also, I’m directly plugged in via ethernet cable and don’t have any oddities about my ISP. I’ve tried dumbing down my graphics for fear of that being some aspect, but it doesn’t seem to be a factor.
I’m on Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB of ram and have a GeForce 570. No idea what could be causing it, but it makes playing the game almost impossible as I’m frequently being booted and then sent to overflows where I can’t join my friends, or finish most events. I love the game and just want to be able to stay online long enough to enjoy it.
