Scrapper's Mask look rework

And half of a charr’s face disappearing into a vacuum behind a mask isn’t weird?

I really didn’t like the old model at all, or the concept art one for the above reason, I’m glad they changed it to conform to the characters anatomy more, and the old model was clear that for a mask/faceplate it would never fit when brought down.

Skins aren’t as important as stat swapping. This makes them suddenly more powerful than ascended gear. All players will eventually feel they have to have that gear to be part of end game

“Aren’t as important”
“All players”

Speak for yourself.

I personally prefer the skins more than the ability to stat swap, because the current implementation doesn’t allow for sigil swapping, so in my mind, stat swapping is largely irrelevant.

Furthermore, the main reason why I cant be bothered doing map comp/requirements for a legendary is as an Engineer main, none of the legendary’s are appealing, including juggernaut (to me anyway, YMMV) and even if I was, they’re currently bugged/hidden on a lot of our skills.

On another note;

I really hope they add more ‘punch’ to the pistol firing sound at least instead of these cheesy throwback sci-fi noises (we already have Quip..).

Also why the suppressor/silencer kitten? It’s like hey here’s this glowey-as-flaming/lightning wreathed weapon of destruction that you can see from everywhere ((but its really really quiet so its all good)).

Maybe a prolong boon aura?

Revenant’s got that covered.

Revenant reveal notes

Facet of Nature

Pulse Naturalistic Resonance every few seconds to nearby allies, increasing their outgoing boon duration.

The other five facets pulse boons to nearby allies, but Facet of Nature is used to boost other facets, allies, or traits and skills you may have equipped. This pulses out a unique effect that increases outgoing boon duration by 50%. Having it active while pulsing out other facets will provide more uptime of the benefits, so even if you switch legends, they’ll still last. This can pair well with other profession builds—a shout guardian, for example.

We’ll never be that useful \o/.

quote

To answer your question quickly, yep, just spamming 1-2 attacks will get you killed quickly, particularly with engineer. So in order to survive as one you will have to swap to other kits/abilities quickly to get access to various conditions, fields and ways to mitigate the damage coming toward you. Likewise these same fields can be used offensively by firing projectiles through them for various effects or simply standing in them/coaxing mobs into it to suffer the effects.

Look for access to blinds and use your environment to your advantage (corners of buildings/structures/around trees etc), the engineer has a lot of access to blind fields and aoe that can really help, as the majority of the mobs damage can be mitigated this way. Something like this perhaps would be good to take advantage of blind;

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vdAQFAUlUUhqqYJWwPLQ7FA-e

That’s just the skills, don’t worry too much about traits at this point, and for armor, go straight for vitality so you have a decent health buffer as you learn engi, throwing in armor with Power as you become more confident with it.

Its difficult to learn anything if you just get one shot off the bat because of very little HP.

Overcharged Flame turret is a pulsing smoke field, Grenade kit #3 is a blind, Bombkit #4 is another pulsing smoke field, and later onward once you get access to elites, mortar kit has another pulsing blindfield on its #4.

You could also go condition damage later on too, grenade/bomb/FT turret can take advantage of condition damage a lot via burning stacks (poison/bleed for grenade) but it takes a little getting use to as conditions are damage over time whereas Power is straight up damage as fast as you can cycle cooldowns which as you alluded to toward the end of your post is actually how engineer is usually played – cycling cooldowns out through every kit including your main weapon set.

Note the difference however that Power is mitigated by a mobs toughness, but condition damage /bypasses/ toughness.

If you’re not dealing with too many mobs at once and its just a single mob or two giving you grief, consider swapping out flame turret for the flame thrower kit, it’s got a few significant differences;

- its auto attack isn’t something to yell about but its great for tagging enemies when say you’re at a big event.

- has a very hard hitting #2 that finishes off as a blast, combine this with your healing turret toolbelt Regenerative Mist for a quick top up of health on the move if your healing turret is on cooldown. Outside of that, when you fire the glob at an enemy, wait for it to JUST pass through the enemy then detonate it right behind them to get the most out of it.

- pushes enemies back and extends their burning duration by 2 seconds on #3

- produces a fire field in a line on #4 (try to keep mobs on this field, #3 will help you with this if positioning is not easy)

- single AoE blind on its #5, see an enemy about to wallop you? trigger it to on-demand cause that attack to miss, lifesaver if you run out of endurance/dodges, can even be swapped to and used while being stunned/ragdolled around!

- The toolbelt ability doesn’t seem like much but currently at endgame plays a significant role in getting insane damaging ticks with burning, but for the moment its still very nice supplemental damage (even when using power) when dealing with a tough mob.

Other alternative setups could be..

Healing Turret / Flame Thrower Kit / Flame Turret / Bomb Kit / Mortar Kit (if you dont like having RSI with throwing grenades constantly)

Healing Turret / Flame Turret / Elixer U / Bomb Kit / Mortar Kit – Elixer U’s toolbelt has 2 possibilities, it can come out as a smokewall which blinds (and destroys enemy projectiles!) or a reflect wall, which while doesn’t blind, causes enemies to get their shots reflected back at them (and since they generally deal a lot of damage you can make short work of them). Elixir U itself helps with getting through your rotations quickly as well.

.. And many more, one thing you’ll quickly realize I think with engineer is that they’re incredibly versatile, which is a blessing and a curse, you can cover all sorts of gaps but in order to be effective you will find yourself changing your build/swapping abilities around a lot to actually get a decent amount of damage going and mitigating damage dealt to yourself.

Some other bits for food for thought;

Net Turret paired with rifle is a lot of immobilization spam with an overcharge stun, excellent for dealing with that one really tough or high damage melee mob like warrior and thief types, Net Turret toolbelt is also a second rifle #2.

Toolkit is incredibly useful, magnetize particularly is unique in that if you need to ‘peel’ a mob or simply bring it into your fields/killzone, that will help you do it. Toolkits Auto Attack hits very hard in power builds as well as crippling foes hit by it, on top of that nailbox for more cripple/bleeds and prybar is the toolkits nuke. Gear Shield will buy you time for cool downs to come back up when things get too hot.

I hope this helps, if you have any other questions please feel free to ask.

Ruined Mortar Animation

It.. wasn’t fired from the shoulder before? it was hipfired like rifles normally are on an engineer, shoulder mounted aka horrick cannon was what a bunch of people on the forums were actually asking for (me included).

But yeah, seems like a halfway compromise, I really don’t get why they bothered to change it in the first place if it wasn’t what people were asking for, it looks really imbalanced/doesn’t make sense.

Seems like a new thread like this appears every other week

Thanks for the correction.. the one time I don’t use the search function.. my bad!

Seriously though.. the most inventive thing you want for the mortar kit skin is a sharp broken tree stump with chains? It really only fits a Charr and maybe a Norn archetype engineer.. imagine an Asura with that broken looking thing? Even the conquest Lord has a slicker looking shoulder cannon than that beast…

Or atleast a weapon model for different races that’s shoulder mounted instead of hip fired (the charr one would look weird on a sylvari eng for example)

I’m not saying “YES, EXACTLY THAT, FOR EVERYONE”, I’m saying that’s a direction one could take with the overall shape/animation of a new mortar kit, otherwise refer to Are’s post.

-edit- Though I would actually take a ‘sharp broken treestump with chains’ for a replacement any day.

If they want to put it on the shoulder they’d need new animations. They’d also need to change the name to bazooka.

I’m aware of that. I’m not making a demand, merely a suggestion if they’re considering changing it.

Engineer or Elementalist for WvW

Well, heres the thing, ele is overall more usefull at this time, but ….

The meta is changing. Engi is very strong in roaming, And that 1500 range in the new upcoming meta ….. Yea …. Its a biggie. Real biggie.

Yes, because at 1500 range a guardian can make a cup of coffee while waiting for the mortar projectiles to put up wall of reflect.

It was also the same range before the big changes for traited grenade kit, only now projectiles are easier to see and less prone to retaliation since they’ve moved 1500 range ability over to the mortar kit.

Please don’t listen to engineer mains, Ele is much much better for WvW.

Solo roaming is dead if you are anywhere near the higher tiers so you will always be with people = ele will always be better (outside of personal preference).

I main engineer and I still agree with this observation (in t1), between the superior condition clearing and aoe non projectile nukes ele doesn’t have to sacrifice as much of their builds to be effective when circumstances change whereas you don’t have room at all for an engineer to swap out all of their kitten in order to be effective.

So if you’re into WvW/zerging a lot id recommend ele, if you’re more into roaming you cooouuuldd try engineer but know you’re fighting an uphill battle while changes fixes to skills are still yet to come through the pipeline.

I don’t mean using the charrzooka model, don’t much like the look of it myself, I meant that particular size/dimension weapon, shoulder mounted etc. Or atleast a weapon model for different races that’s shoulder mounted instead of hip fired (the charr one would look weird on a sylvari eng for example)

Charrzooka looks nothing like the one in the concept art.

“Doing the work for you dev’s”

Instead of ‘work’ all I see is someone farting out an opinion.

Anyone can do that, its not as easy as you make it sound to implement them.

Regardless, the biggest gripes I have is I wish the other healing options were more relevant than the HT, but a lot of these sound a little insane ie; Modified ammunition rendering a 3rd of all profs’ possible boons a liability, free AED’s at 25% while still using Healing Turret, Juggernaut granting might, stability AND cannot be critically hit, perma rifle chill, and others don’t make sense (thematically, anyway), like 250 toughness on short fuse.

The more interesting and creative ones though to me admittedly are Heavy Armor Exploits (provided its with an ICD), Pinpoint Distribution, Static Discharge and Adrenal Implant.

I think it would also be prudent to wait for the engineer elite spec reveal to see how it meshes with our current traits.

Yeah, I can understand not going back to fix the others may take up time for fixing QoL issues, but its getting ridiculous at the blatant clipping going on in even these NEW armors, the gasmask was awesome, I mean, if you have a system in place for different armors for different races then why couldn’t the same be done for these armors? takes too long?

Then I guess its not worth the money or in game time spent.

Also feel sorry for the human players, I mean its a royal kick in the nuts to those who farmed their t3 cultural for the uniqueness of it when all other races can get an essentially a souped up version for 60 gold less, what next? legendary skins now available for $10?

GG anet.
