I’m hoping to improve my skills in PvP which is what I mainly play these days. I zerk in PvE, have tried other builds, and plan to continue with my current zerk build. I’d love to do mesmer only parties in any mode.
I’m relocating to .ca shortly and thought it would be fun to be in a Canadian guild. I’ve been playing since beta and know a lot of the pve stuff pretty well.
I can’t rep 100% of the time because I’m in a pretty serious pvp guild. But its nice to be in a pve guild for pve things.
Feel free to pm or message me in game!
Thanks!

Windows 8.1 Upgrade Portrait <--> Landscape
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: Wormy Slyme.2913
I was basically forced to upgrade from windows 8 to 8.1. My game ran perfectly on 8. Since the upgrade, my game will flip to ‘portrait’ display from the needed ‘landscape.’ It was worse before I reinstalled he game and updated the graphics card driver (game crash). I thought I had also remedied the problem by also uninstalling CyberLink, a music burning program, which had been turning up an error message. But, alas, it had not fixed the issue. It flips to portrait and despite my change back to landscape in the control panel, reverts back to portrait within about 15-20 minutes. However it has not yet crashed. I’m not good at computer stuff (I consider it remarkable that I have been able to figure it out to this point) so please be gentle.
Any ideas?
Graphics Card NVIDIA GT 650
OS Windows 8.1 64-bit

Thanks!
It dawned on me that I set my firewall settings too high on the modem when you mentioned Maximum Security. I set it to “typical” setting and can now get on the game.
The Universe is now back in balance.
I really appreciated your down to earth response.
Thanks again!

“The game client is unable to gain access to the log in server at this time. This is most commonly caused by firewall or router settings, security applications, or connecting through a campus network. For additional support, please visit http://support.guildwars2.com”
My modem is Wireless Gateway 1 supplied by Comcast/Infinity Model # TG852G
I’m hooked up with a new broadband modem and can’t get through the firewall. The message says I can’t log into the server and points to security as a possible cause. I’ve allowed GW2 to be accepted in Norton firewall (oh, how I hate norton) and I have my firewall set medium on my Windows (I’m running 8 ). I’ve restarted my computer and am at a loss. I’m not good at this kind of stuff to begin with so any direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I don’t have too much to add that Nay hasn’t already said. I’ve been playing PvE around with a few necro builds and I enjoy healer support the most. I don’t crunch build/stat numbers in part because I’m lazy and I don’t have the time. That being said, I would like to add that my use of the build centers around watching (literally!) the battlefield and not even bothering with dps. I envision this build as a way to control what happens on the vast battlefield with the goal to optimize healing, minimizing all around damage, and possessing skills that help buy time for the party. In fact, I mostly keep track of party member hps and conditions for condition removal. Blindness aoe (Well of Darkness and Plague) acts as a defense for melee team members while I wait for my main heal/cond removal skills to cooldown. Once those are ready I pull back from front lines and start over (with liberal use of well of blood). Since I use cleric I eq I can help hold melee for a minute or two and am able to ress downed party members fairly quickly. I find that, in the majority of times, if I try to change my focus from the battlefield (and what is happening with party members) to trying to do dps, I always die, the battlefield can be more difficult to maintain, and the build is a miserable failure. If I see that someone is getting targeted by a mob, for example, I focus the resources on that person. I’ve found its a great way to change the tide into the favor of the party. I’ve also received feedback from party members who have been able to notice a strong difference as a result of my build. I exclusively use wells, staff, scepter, and swap between focus (for hp regen) or warhorn (for haste) depending on situation. My trait lines are 10/20/20/20/0 with Ritual of Protection as mandatory. I also maintain a degree of flexibility to change well utilities and weapons as needed. The corpses should be rigid, not me.
I should note that I can solo and farm in Cursed Shores with zero problems. It may take more time but I never have to worry about dying. And I can always find someone to team with. If not, I use Flesh Golem for my elite to help with dps if I desire.
I also ran this build with a boon strip/cond necro (both used Flesh Golem for our elites) and wiped up in Malchor’s Leap in part because we were able to partially tank and control the battlefield. I’d love to run a party with that same get up and some MMs. I don’t know how effective it would be but the idea of lawnmowing everything in our path is quite exciting
As another GW1 Necro veteran, I also agree entirely with this post. GW2 Necro was the first toon I took to 80 and did soley as a MM. There was an entirely foreign feeling to this class and I frequently found myself talking to others about how GW1 necros were far more exciting and interesting to play (for the reasons you have mentioned). After putting necro down (and completely falling in love with mesmer who have far more utility than necro ever will at this point) and coming back after a several month hiatus from necro class, I am still finding myself feeling underwhelmed.
One major thing that has changed, however, is my approach to relating to the class. You’re absolutely right that it seems geared more for players who played Warlock in other games and that is now my approach as well. I’m really trying to learn how to enjoy this class in order to maximize my overall enjoyment of the game. At this point, I’m willing to let go of my need for my old GW1 mentality to find my place in GW2. In this spirit, I think its only a matter of time until you start seeing party builds similar to discordway parties. For example, I was recently in a party with another necro and two mesmers (don’t remember the 5th) and we cleaned up a dungeon with great efficiency in part because we were able to stack a vey high amount of conditions. It leads me to wonder how we can further experiment together in parties to really maximize our skills and find better utility across the entire game.
Necro may suck now but we must continue to find a niche. Otherwise other classes will believe this and make it that much more difficult to find parties and exist as a class. I have seen a few very creative uses for necro in pve and have gotten my kitten kicked by a couple necros in pvp so I don’t think its as bleak as it feels right now. Its taking me a lot of patience and time researching to find what works well.
my two cents.
