Brilliance is blue, Shield is pink, Blast, Power and Wave are more violet than purple :P

Lore of magic in GW is much different than in D&D, arcane energy is just a part of magic, not base for all magic.

Colours purple, violet and pink were always associated with Mesmer magic. On Elementalist you have some small arcane effects, but they are mostly build around releasing pure energy (and they are mostly based on Energy Storage skills from first game).

Just look at skills from first game:

Thanks for this post. I will take a look at those links, when I get a chance to!

Like I said before, I think there is a bit of the d&d nerd in me when I look into spells and lore from other games. The rules are little more grey in guild wars than what I am used to, it seems. I am not very familiar with the lore in general. That being said, I still say ele should have more arcane spells!

Thanks for the replies, everyone. Great discussion.

I guess there is no arcane attunement because arcane is not one of the four basic elements. I always thought this is a good thing, because it makes the arcane line stand out from the other 4. Weaver looks to have quite a nice synergy with arcane since you will be switching attunements a lot more!

I agree with you to some degree. Arcane is normally viewed as the purest form of magic. That is one of the reasons why it was always the most interesting to me. In a lot of lore, mages cast elemental spells by starting with an arcane base spell, then shaping it into the elemental form.

Anyway, I would just like to see arcane magic have a higher presence in the game for Eles.

Arcane magic is not “true source” of magic in GW lore. Nor will it be “purplish”, as purple is colour associated with Mesmer magic.
I would advise you to play Mesmer, as it seems it is much closer to that you seem to want.

I am not big on Illusion. Also, the icons for every arcane spell is purple. So either it’s not purple in the lore, and they messed up the icons, or the other way around.

You literary have arcane skills on core elementalist and arcane traitline… It also seems to be quite purpleish.

Right…I am guessing that you either didn’t fully read my post or didn’t understand it.

I am aware that there ARE arcane skills. I am saying that I don’t think that there are enough of them. Nor is there an arcane attunement. Key arcane spells such as Magic Missiles are no where to be found.

Also, the icon of the arcane spells are very purple, but not so much on the spells themselves.

Howdy all,

I haven’t played Guild Wars 2 in years, but with the new expansion coming out, my wife and I decided to get back into it.

I love the look and idea of the new Weaver spec for Ele, but I noticed that there is a lack of Arcane mage for Ele as a whole. Just a few skills on the utility bar. I would love to see additional skills, if not a whole new magic element to attune to. Being that there is even a talent tree for Arcane, it’s clear that you don’t flat out pretend that Arcane magic isn’t a true magic source in the lore. Maybe it is the d&d nerd in me, but I am greatly missing a Magic Missile type of spell.

Not to mention, I would love to see you guys improve the visuals for arcane magic. Arcane is classically shown as a vibrant purple hue, meanwhile it is this white-ish brown look in-game. It is your lore and game, of course, but I can’t deny that I found it a bit disappointing.

Anyway, just my two cents. I love the classic master of the Arcane arts, and wanted to give my input on it. Keep up the great work, guys. I am looking forward to weaving some spells together in the expansion. =)

Thank you SO much ANET!

Wow, I just went through all of the replies. Thank you very much, everyone. My wife has been trying out the Dragon Hunter and Beserker + Longbow combo this morning, as well as the Ranger Axe+ torch / Shortbow combo. She is having a tough time deciding! To be something different, I am looking at the elementalist. I saw a Tempest Dagger/Focus combo that seemed kind of neat.

Revenant doesn’t seem like a bad idea either. It kind of reminds me of druid in a way. With the whole, each Stance is a different Role thing. Shiro reminds me of Feral, Dwarf as Guardian (bear), and Centaur as Resto.

So many options!

Can you guys help me pick a class, please?

Hey, guys. Thanks again for the replies. A ranged warrior build? I didn’t even think about that. I will tell her about it.

Mesmer seems closer to a Arcane Mage to me, to put it in WoW terms. But I could be wrong about that. Anway, thank you for all of the replies, guys!

Thanks for the reply. Norn was a great tip, we both decided to go Norn, due to them being more nature themed. Elementalist might not be a bad idea. I do like the melee ranger pretty well, but I don’t like the idea of us getting kicked from groups for having 2 rangers in one group.

Howdy, guys. My wife and I bought the Guild Wars 2 expansion. My only problem thus far, is that I can’t figure out what class to play. We have both played World of Warcraft (among many other mmos) for years now.

I normally play Druids in just about any rpg that I can, or atleast the closest that I can to it. (Like how they took out Druids from the Dragon Age series, so now I gotta play Keepers and Knight Enchanters.). I played all 4 specs pretty regularly, although Feral most commonly.

My wife plays Bow classes in almost all rpgs now. Elemental bow classes, if she can, but a normal bow will do.

Now, I know that there is a Druid spec added to the game with the expansion. This caught my attention. My wife has already jumped on the Ranger, being that it is close to the Hunter class that she loves.

Will groups turn us away if we are Both Rangers at end game? Even with me being mostly Melee or Staff heals, while she stays with mostly (if not all) ranged bow? Or would I be better off picking a different class? Is there a class that is better suited for me that will be somewhat familiar? Thanks all.
