I have also Mystic Forged a good sum of rares/exotics… maybe around 1000, and have yet to see any precursor. It definitely gives you that casino feel when you realize your aiming for that Corvette spinning above the Mystic Forge while getting the smaller rewards over and over. Going for greatswords I believe I have got every named exotic there is besides Dusk/Dawn. So the chances are reallllllllly slim. Which makes it so disheartening that some got away with a bunch just because the recipe table was borked.
If there is one thing I hated most about Aion it was the fact that dungeon content was never tested and often required exploits to beat. That soon became the format for every group fighting those encounters and was never addressed. (Stormwing, Dark Poeta pre-expansion, Abyssal Splinter, etc).
On to GW2… almost every group I have joined for Citadel of Fire, mainly route 2, has used some sort of game exploit to beat. Mainly seen in the events of getting Magg across the lava and Magg bombing the door. I thought that these were just over-tuned events… until the Dev who claims creation of the dungeon made some tweaks to it to be more his expectation. These tweaks being the removal of some exploits and making the events even harder…
My question would be… has any developer(s) actually ran this instance on route 2 and cleared it legit? I am sure with the perfect group composition, and I mean PERFECT, it would be do-able. But I have yet to get said group as a geared Thief. So let me explain the two exploitable events that I think are over-tuned.
Magg getting across the lava… Even as a geared DPS Thief with other geared folks we still cannot clear the mobs fast enough before respawn’s hit us. You have these mobs ranging for incredible damage, people expected to not be doing DPS because they have to put out fires with the frost, meanwhile we are killing 2-3 silvers. It just seems A BIT MUCH. Most groups just run across the lava and whoever dies spawns at zone-in Waypoint and Magg ports to the crystal. And quite honestly, I don’t blame people using this method because this event is ridiculous.
Magg blowing up the door. Seriously? I doubt any group has actually been able to keep up the pace of killing mobs for 2 minutes on this fight. The timers between spawns is TOO FAST for any group to kill 3 silver mobs in time before being swarmed by 3 more. It isn’t even challenging, it just seems impossible. And it’s not fun. Getting past this event for… 99.9% of groups is chain dieing for 2 minutes.
So that’s my 2C on this instance in particular. I haven’t had a chance to do other instances but I imagine there is equal frustration in them as well.

Within the first couple of weeks after launch the market was already fighting over prices on Legendary precursor weapons. Every day more and more were going up and the price going down. Now within the past week (or so) it seems that every type of legendary precursor is going extinct. Before last patch I had had a guildy who decided to go for the Greatsword proc and he got it on his 4th try with 71-78-78-80 exotic’s in mystic forge. Meanwhile reading all these people using rares as low as 65 with 80’s and getting it…
So I started to try my luck… trying exotic daggers, shortbows, and greatswords. 71,78,78,80. 71,80,80,80. It hasn’t made a difference. I have made probably 30+ ‘special named’ exotics but no precursor. I stopped trying exotics because it was too expensive and moved onto rares. I have gone through over 150 forges with 80,80,80,80 rare greatsword’s with no luck. Well into 100g+ spent and nothing to show for it.
I would say this is just extremely bad luck… but then I look at the market and see no precursors available for sale. I go on different forums and see tons of complaints from people in the same boat as me. No explanation from ArenaNet but a couple community manager posts giving their ‘opinion’ about patching sub-L76+ items from being able to craft precursor.
So… curious what all you guys have run into lately. And if a dev would post any facts on the matter that would be helpful too. Always great to add hope to dim area’s of the game that people are aspiring towards…
Where is the ArenaNet explanation/facts about the anti-farming (or anti-bot) code? I understand that many users think the lack of clarification about how this code works is because ArenaNet doesn’t want botter’s to find ways to circumvent it. However, it truly is hurting the every day player more than the bots. And for how open ArenaNet is on every other part of the game, this shouldn’t be any different. Primarily for this reason:
Magic Find is a major stat in game that we are given the option to increase by many means, most of which involve replacement of defensive/offensive stats. This comes on weapons, armor, sigils, runes, food, guild boosts & banners, etc. This gear’s main purpose is for farming rare items. After-all, there is much better stats that you should be utilizing if you are doing anything else other than farming. For those reasons alone, why is there a punishment for those who choose to farm? With a full set of MF gear I can’t even run an entire Cursed Shore event without the drop rates plummeting towards the end. If this code isn’t going to be removed or changed for the better, there at least has to be clarification on it.
I ran CoF yesterday two times. First one we ran was Option 2 and the timer part was quite ridiculous. We had a group of fairly well geared players and we couldn’t down the mobs faster than they were spawning. We did get it on our first try but it took several deaths and pulling mobs out of the room at the end to finish. Rewards at end were 26 silver and 15 carvings.
We then ran option 1 which we had never done before. Everyone in the group had several deaths throughout the learning process (I had a 10s repair bill). In the end we received 13 silver and 15 carvings…
From this I don’t understand how the dev’s post makes sense. We tried a second chain which took us 45+ minutes to complete and we received half the coin for it? Barely making it profitable past our repair bills.
