Ferg definately has their kitten together this week, and holy crap are they fielding numbers! How that guy is managing to maneuver with a zerg/guild groups that large is amazing… We were facing 20+ to our front to get hit by 20+ behind, they fought us and DR off at Briar in their homeland tonight… Bad night for us to try new tactics lol. Bravo
There seems to be some lack of knowledge shown in some posts about how Mesmer portals work.
Mesmers cannot stay perma-stealthed themselves
Mesmers cannot portal into a keep/tower or whatever unless they drop their portal in there first.
Mesmer portal cool down is 1 minute. Once a Mesmer drops one portal, they have 60 seconds to drop the second Portal or the skill goes on cool down for the 1 minute.
Once both portals are down, they only last for approx. 12 seconds and not the 20 seconds on the tooltip.
Mesmers Portal ability is often used as a solo defensive ability on melee and not just for Portal bombs or for getting other players or supplies into towers/keeps.
Portals are often useless in WvW with pugs and are usually only effective with party or guild coordination.
Love it man! I’m too lazy to post all the specifics, and then poof there you are hehe. This game seems to really like cloaking for some reason, hence why we run thieves and mesmers to produce that effect at crucial moments.
Spacelord you crack me up man! We got caught way out of position and had some issues getting back inside to give you guys your due and proper defense… I’d cry about rendering but I won’t beat the dead horse as we both face it at different times. Our split force was kinda bleh, and yeah the pugs wiped fast along the way. I’m gonna have to add you to friends so I can flame ram you next time you’re out, I’ll scream out number 41 in map chat just for you.
I don’t think mesmer portals need to be toned down as much as other classes should have something that’s also game changing.
Mesmer portals encourages group communication, and coordination. Lets see some more of that on other classes.
This is something I could get behind. My primary problem with Mesmer’s is that they are just far too strong in WvW. Both Timewarp and Portal make them a MUST HAVE class in WvW compared to every other class, if you don’t have a mesmer with Timewarp and Portal than you are severely at a disadvantage to a group that does, this is both in sPvP and WvW.
What the portal gets used for is NOT THE ISSUE HERE!! What is the issue is that one class has become MUST HAVE and all the others have nothing they can bring that is as strong. Maybe you can argue that the current implementation of Thief’s Shadow Refuge is up there in game changing utility but that skill only effects 5 people not THE ENTIRE SERVER like the Portal can. That is the problem here and why it is too strong.
Either make the Portal have a limit on it’s uses or change the other classes to have something that is a must have and completely changes the way WvW works without breaking sPvP/PvE. As I see it the vastly easier solution would be to just make the portal only work on a limited number of players before dispersing. Make that number 5 to bring it in line with other strong skills like Shadow Refuge and other Boons/AoE Skills or if that is too small 10 people would at least be something…..
REMEMBER: What the Portal is used for = NOT IMPORTANT
WHAT IS IMPORTANT = How strong this skill is compared to every other skill in the game, it changes the entire landscape of WvW. No other skill in the game does this to such a extreme degree.
Without Portal and TW, what does a mesmer bring to WvW/sPvP? Lackluster dps, scares people due to clones, and sends berserkers in at siege… Utility is the name of the game for them, and I would argue that WvW without a CC Ele sucks, or a couple Tank types, Engi AOE’s, etc… it all changes the landscape, mesmer just has utility skills for movement. Great class if played well, mediocre if in the hands of an amateur.

You all definately had some impressive numbers! Some hard fought fun was had earlier on in Briar, not sure if you were there for that or not. I’m pretty sure there will be some video brought out from Jhorl in short order.
Whoever had the idea to throw scouts out on all sides of the keep after the first wipe is finally getting it! It became more and more difficult for us to maneuver around without being called and marching head long into the fray. Hats off to thinking on your feet, and it was pretty apparent you all were using some kind of voice chat… or a dude who types like 200 wpm or some rediculous number.
My only negative comment, is actually a polite disagreement to your “Zerg” labeling of our guild group running coordinated in a voice chat situation. Zerg is a mindless rabble generally speaking, that uses the tactic of numbers and brute force trump all. We maneuvered pretty well against your folks, and had to think pretty quickly to get back ahead after a couple of oh crap moments you all presented us.
Lastly, I’d like to politely challenge/invite/request you guys to field out your finest 10 sometime, or whatever number you feel is warranted to come play open field. I’d love to have an area similar to Agramon’s Lair or Labyrinth (Late DAoC) to have straight 5 and 10 man roaming groups… Avoid the zerg on zerg activity and have some classic fights in the old manner.

I admit there is something that need to fix, but it ain’t mesmer portals. I’m not gonna make list what needs to be fixed on this post.
Perfectly spoken. Guild Wars is alluring to the hardcore camp due to it’s player skill based system. It rewards those who pay attention to skills, use them appropriately, and build their team correctly to their leaders playstyle.
Culling, on the other hand, is a major issue. Portal maneuver is such a strong tactic, however with the culling issue about it I kinda feel dirty using it. With that said, I’ll still use the tactic after it’s fixed, alot of this is sadly a L2P issue.
Just remember when you join a WvW zone, instead of asking in team chat “Where’s our zerg at”, perhaps you should ask if any groups have room, and see if your server has a Vent/TS/Mumble to get organized via voice. 10 organized players on voice can trump 3x their numbers, even with current game issues.

Some folks are too wound up on the end of the week score… they miss the pure, simple, unadulterated joy of killing people in open field. PvW has it’s purposes, that’s to show people where we are, and get them to come play

Some solid fights tonight against the NoQQ 12 man Ferg/DR. You guys gave us alot of fun, and a few challenging moments. Keep it up all, we love the fights!
There is a small group of us that are looking to join with a guild on any of the 3 servers if anyone has any interest. We’re all former 8-man DAoC players looking to do the same here. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen many people on Devona’s Rest with that mindset, so I wanted to see if anyone else is looking to do the same thing. I’m not expecting the same kind of action as DAoC, but I would like to try to find something similar. If anyone has any interest, please send me a PM.
I apologize for diverging from the usual talk of each server bragging about zerging. I am sure each server is very good at having 30 green dots on the map auto-attack. Please continue…
NoQQ Should Rolled Kaineng is loaded with prior DAoC vets, most of us 8 mans as well. If you have a serious interest PM me on the forums for details.
The only bad thing about the skill is… people can dodge out of it seems to be a bug to me though
Timing is everything my friend. In my current play style i usually have most enemies out of endurance fairly quickly. Start casting it along with judges intervention, or if it’s down nail them with the short CD 1200 range immobilize. Works really well for me.
You could also try getting it down then immediately using Hammer 4 to knock them against it for a nice knockdown.
I’m running pure Crest of the Soldier, along with p/t/v gear. For wvw it’s amazing to be that frontline presence, constantly applying pressure while my guild rains in aoe crits for 10k. I spec tank and do low damage, so guildies don’t have to.
I will lay out the invitation for more guilds to field smaller groups (5-10) of roamers and lets get this open field combat rolling.

We had a lot of fun holding it with 7;) Nice rush at the end from both directions, that was what was needed.
These are the type of fights I play for. Outmanned atleast 2:1, my only complaint is it wasn’t a true open field fight. We need more roaming guilds!
