Want to share some curious info on an infinite loading screen bug I encountered. It was different from other infinite loading screens in that the ModelsTotal counter (I play with -maploadinfo) kept constantly increasing at a rate of about 5/second. ModelsLoaded counter struggled to keep up with it but never reached it. After a minute of waiting on the loading screen (I play on SSD, so I never experience loading times this, um, long) the ModelsTotal counter was around 20000 (20k, yes), ModelsLoaded, however, was lagging behind at around16k. Memory consumption was within reasonable bounds, around 2.6 GB (with about 8 GB free remaining), it didn’t seem to be getting any higher during the “loading”. Client was fully patched.
My guess is that some creatures/effects were spawning around me while I was loading, adding the same model to the loading queue, but their loading kept failing for some reason. If this is the cause, then this might also explain “out of memory” crashes some people encountered, if the models that failed to load weren’t cleaned up properly.
The infinite loading screen happened to me when teleporting down after passing through the northern entrance to Tarir while inside a yellow Enchanted Armor. The only event I participated in in that map before the bug happened was the event that starts 15 mins prior to Tarir assault in which players can gain access to yellow Enchanted Armors. That event happened near the Northwatch.
