I still have that feeling of “Cant wait to finish to get home and login to wvw” because you make your own fun in this game.
I hear that a lot. A normal misconception.
But it seems like creating once own fun is impossible when once idea of fun is tacticle play, tacticle defense and tacticle thought.
I upgrade, siege and stock up a keep/tower for a better defense and the supply I make sure is there for emergency repairs and/or emergency building. After 6 hours of this there is nothing more deflatting then seeing set players drain that supply in 5 min because;
- they can not be kitten to run to a camp
- they think its good to repair a wall being attacked
- they just simply wanna have supply on them
I mean .. it’s not >their< idea of fun to run supply, repair or escort.
How about the guildraid who cares not for it’s defense but only about its bags and lets a fully upgraded Garrison fall because “they were skirmishing at a camp”.
Or guildraids who while forming up (2 hours before raid) stands in Garrison or Citadel emoting while a fully upgraded tower or keep is being over run just next to them. And when told to ask says “The more we lose the more fun for our raid when it starts”
Or raids who instead of killing that 1 treb at Briar, chooses to let that said treb break a fortified wall of Bay so they can farm at the hole and then expect and actually tell ppl in teamchat “All not XXX guild, run supply and rep that wall” while they run of for the next farm. And if I wish to hold what I built I’m left alone, with 1 or 2 others, repairing that wall that would have taken the raid 4 min to fully repair. Not to mention the treb being built again 10 min later .. rinse and repeat.
Ins: As you might see I could go on for a long time, bottom line though, it’s extremly hard to create your own fun!
I’m sorry for the loss of great guilds from Deso m8, but we got FG over to us and apart from a few guilds leaving Piken, getting FG was on of the best things that happened.
Regarding your points; Very few I agree on, but that’s how it is really. We enjoy the same game for different reasons.

lol. That video was like seeing Darkhaven commanders in action.
Tonight I was in that same Northern SM location, using the mortar on an incoming zerg. Below me was a lone player fixing the wall. Up comes a commander with his group of “mine mine mine” minions. They stood there for about 5 minutes berating the poor guy.
I finally had to shout, something to the effect of “Leave the poor guy alone”. “If you and your zerglings spent half the time you all just stood there yelling and humiliating the player, you could have gotten supply from our back camps”. “You’d have more supply here than he could ever use”.
In game reports for verbal abuse each and every time I see it happen.
Ok, we have our fair share of egos, minions, zerglings and others who check in their brain at Citadel before entering a wvw map. But I have never seen a mental abuse of a player for repairing, or anything else for that matter. This is just .. wow.
Whats up with the random abuse anyway??
This is not an issue with game mechanics or zerg mentality. Good thing you tell them to stop, such attitude should never be tolarated and more should stop it!
I hear you. We deal with this every single day. Ever since the wxp patch, respected and respectable guilds on the server has turned into seagulls from Finding Nemo.
The vast majority of our guildraids now disrespects any and all effort placed in upgrading, sieging and stocking keeps/towers.
I open map and I see no border owning their own towers or keeps. Why? Because defending does not give as much wxp as rolling over the same wooden tower/keep. And who wanna defend anything now anyway. 7-8 hours to upgrade and 30 sec free reign with no battle-marks.
Since the wxp patch all defensive play style has been diminished slowly. Not because we don’t enjoy it anymore but because we get insulted for hoping other could show some respect to our side of the game and not just seagull everything.
The past 2 weeks has been a nightmare, Piken has lost already 7 dedicated defenders and the ones still there is slowly on the way out.

This is a really good idea.
Supply taken from camps should give wxp – Supply taken from keep/towers shouldn’t.
Guess server:
Step 1: Create a sizable force of 40 man.
Step 2: ( SvS – Siege.vs.Structure)
Build 2 trebs or 5 catas at a distance while standing behind waiting for the wall/door to go down.
Step 3: Enter the keep and immediatly start building more long range siege
Step 4: Redo SvS while standing beind waiting for wall/door to go down and have siege defending your 40 man and longrange siege
Step 5: When down build yet more siege to kill any possible siege inside the keep
Step 6: While pushing towards the open gap, build even more siege outside to defend the 40 man pushing forward
Step 7: Do everything to avoid any PvP what so ever
Step 8: Rinse and repeat.
Step 9: If opposition to strong, jump BL for some more PvD/SvS while the opposition thins out.
This was the turn out of yesterdays raid. Thank you guys for some sweet Pve action
But next time maybe you can skip the 500 siege deployments and dare to come a bit closer.
Agree with the OP. A tower or even worse, a keep becomes your prison, where all you do is run circles refreshing the siege.
Buuuuuuut, the rams used 32 hours ago to take the keep still stands ..
Yes have a timer but change it to two hours. 30 min is just silly.

Did this for 3 hours in EB last night on the WC side. And yeah, the only reward was the WP finishing and personal sense of accompishment.
And there is nothing wrong with that. It’s what fueled us for 8 months.
But right should be right. You kill a dolly (that can be farmed as well) and get wxp, you should get wxp for defending and escorting it. I’ll even go as far as saying you should get double the wxp.
On a second note, all you non defenders can come in posts like this and popcorn troll it all you wish. However you will never understand the sense of accomplishment and actually being part of doing something for the server. You care about the struture, the camps and dollies. You respect other players who spends time and their own gold to upgrade and buy/build siege. In a sense, it gives the game a deeper meaning then the mindless killing.
Do nothing for your server more then random skirmishes, you lose all purpose of the game and the indifference kicks in. This indifference leads to you calling those who cares QQ’ers and whiners for asking you to pls don’t take supply from a tower/keep (amongst other things).
But we didn’t success to take one of your tower Piken… To much defenses and you were very reactive. DT, you did a great job. A pain in the Kitten to see you each time. Always hard to fight against you.
This is our Holy Diamond. While the wxp-train runs of doing their thing we have dedicated players keeping a very close eye on Sunny/Crag.
We take it as a compliment you mentioning not being able to cap them, thank you

Ever since release the game become worse. Wxp-farming patch was what ruined it for me though.
But no matter how bad or laggy or zergy a game is, the mentality of the gamers is what kills my spirit.
And after the wxp-farming patch it’s just dropped below required IQ to open a kinder surprise.

Now many make fun of this and that’s ok. But I’d like to add some reality check to it.
Before the WXP-farming patch …
- Upgrading
- Escorting
- Siege building
- Repairing
… was neither rewarding nor appreciated. After the patch it’s became even worse.
The mentality of people changed and became all about how to get wxp the fastest and easiest way. So that makes me wonder.
• Why should I stay behind repairing a broken fortified wall, by myself, for no reward, when the horde runs of and wxp farms?
• Why should I escort that dolly all the way from the camp to the keep/tower, by myself, for no reward, when only killing the enemy dolly gives wxp?
• Why should I spend my gold and time upgrading (that if all goes well takes approx. around 7 hours) ensuring supply gets in, when 95% of everyone on that map thinks “We will just retake it and get wxp for the cap”.
I play a lot, many hours a day and I’m always in wvwvw. My play style is very defensive and behind the scene work. I belong to that little group of players who runs back and forth between a camp and broken wall/door, the group who upgrades and defend camps, the group who escorts dollies from start to end and the group who has the map open most of the time to check so nothing contested goes by unnoticed.
When I heard we would be able to buy ranks in different aspects of our playing style I got extremely happy. Finally I’d get something for all that work repairing and building. Because, naive as I was I thought the point system would be based on how we play. I would i.e. be able to carry more supply then those who never spends even a minute repairing or maybe a reduction in siege cost considering I build about 20-40 siege a day. But no …
Of course being able to carry +5 more supply will take a person with my gaming style tripple the time to get compared to someone who does nothing but runs in the blob. I mean .. that’s logic, is it not?
I am starting to think that I’m stupid all way around. What an idiot I am. Why the hell am I doing a work that’s not considered worth rewarding from the company itself nor is it appreciated or respected by players either. What a nutshell I am!
Yea, I’m bitter, but after 8 months how can I be anything but when wvwvw is all about killing, destroying and egocentric gameplay.
tl;dr – Anet rewards blobs, 95% of players are lemmings and I’m an idiot.

Shame on you, you bash RG and tell them they are not loyal to a server.
You are not better, with your childish behaviour you also damage PS reputation and stab the real community in the back.
If you have a problem with RG, they are out there in the borderlands, go and fight them there, at least you help PS then.
Seeing as the loyalty part was mine I’ll respond to this. I am in no way bashing anyone. It’s fact they have not maintained loyalty to any server. But that’s their own choice. Where is the childishness and backstabbing of community you talk of?
After all GW is just a game but some of you behave like there is nothing more important in life. So calm down and just play the game the way you want then you have fun and no reason to write crap on a forum.
Yes, GW2 is a game and we also choose to dedicate ourselves differently in a game. However it’s not possible to “play the game the way you want” to ensure fun. It’s an mmo meaning we are all in one way or the other effected by each other.
Not really calmness that’s needed but respect and understanding for ones choice, dedication and work effort.
On a second note, can we drop the RG discussions please? Stop making them more special then they are. RG is just like any other wvwvw guild out there. Yes, they choose to not have any loyalty to any server, but that’s their choice to make.
Thirdly, every server blobs and zergs. Many guild raids on Piken try not to zerg but with a tag up it’s inevitable that you pull friendlies. I’m sure the same goes for every other server. If anyone is to blame for zergs/blobs it’s Anet for creating mechanics that promotes zergs (even if they talk about fighting the zerg, but that’s a totally different discussion).
My biggest wish is that we play fair and within the rules of the game. If everyone can lay of the hacks, exploits and glitches, you can all blob, slob and rob all you like, even perma-lick garrison gate to keep it contested.
Piken bl was hectic indeed yesterday, was running like Flash between Sunny and Crag, repairing, placing new siege and defending. Without Scnd and later the support from FG Piken would have been bruised, all red and blue.
A huge thank you to all those of you who work in the shadow, the repairers, the scouts, the siege builders, camp cappers and dolly escorts. I know a few of you by name and I’m proud to share Piken bl with you guys!
Your effort and time costs more gold then it brings in and it does not give wxp or lootbags even remotly close to what the offensive players get. That sacrifice alone is worth respect and gratitude.
What our wvw guilds do is important but the work all you defensive players do is crucial to maintain anything on our boarderland. You have my thanks!

A despawn timer for rams, sure, but maybe give it an hour at least.
As a big consumer of siege and a long distance runner for the supply to build it, I’d love for there to be some sort of visible sign that a siege will despawn.
After playing against same server for months you kinda get to know their moves. So pre-building siege to counter their masses is very important. But there are very few things as frustrating as seeing the siege despawn right under your nose.
And lets face it, the despawn time is not nearly as accurate as it’s said to be.

There are no dumb upgrades. Every upgrade, may it be additional guards or a merchant adds to the amount of supply you can stock in a keep/tower.
It’s a question of timing. When a keep comes under attack and someone immediately buys the merchant upgrade, thus instantly draining the keep of a lot of supply that could have been used for defenses/repairs, that’s a “dumb upgrade”.
If things like merchants cost money only and no supply, then it would always be an appreciated upgrade.
Yes I agree, timing is important. However the upgrade itself is not dumb, the person who upgraded is.
Now this already happens, on maybe all servers. Those doing it are either server spies who wanna ruin the keep before an attack or someone with a kind heart who doesn’t know better or .. just dumb.
In any regards, it does not happen all the time and I still see no reason to why upgrading shouldn’t be rewarded with wxp. Cause that is what we are asking for here after all.
If the wxp is rewarded after the upgrade is done, it will be pretty hard upgrade-grinding for wxp.
I get wxp for camping a dolly route killing that dolly over and over, I want wxp for walking with that dolly from camp to tower/keep .. over and over.

Towers and keep has 12 upgrades each, those of you against wxp for upgrading seem to think we are suggesting 1k wxp per upgrade. Well we are not. If buying an upgrade and let it finish gives us 75 wxp, it would still be 10 times more beneficial to cap and kill quaggan nodes.
I think that those of you who are against this has spent little to no time doing the job left behind any offensive commander/zerg. This is also the reason this thread is still on page 1 and not page 11. Had it been anything regarding destroying or killing this thread would have been filled.
Instead, help those who stay behind repairing what you feel you have no wish or time to do. We use our own gold and we miss out on tooons of loot and wxp not running with the zerg. What we do is a completely ungrateful job that’s not seen or cared for by others.
We choose to do it because that is how we enjoy our gaming but at least let us have some wxp for our effort.

The keeps were sieged but as someone already stated you need ppl to use them. As the timer is about 3 min, porting is not an option. That leaves you with the hope of a bigger defense group close by to run there in under 1 minute.
Doable yes, highly realistic no.
Golem cap, golem nerf or last upgrade at a keep to counter golem rushes could help. Until then I’d appreciate wxp for upgrading, escorting and repairing.
That Golem rush was ridiculous indeed. I agree that it shouldn’t be possible for a fully upgraded keep with lots of defensive siege to be capped in 50 sec. Although, our server has also done this, so it’s not entirely fair to blame it on RS.

And yes I know that. Think it’s just as bad whom ever does it. I pointed out RS as this is a common thing from them. However humans tend to abuse faulty mechanics and in the end I blame the op:ness of golems. Golem cap, golem nerf or maybe a final upgrade in a keep to counter golem attacks could be implemented.
RS I don’t care if you blob or zerg or what ever. I really don’t. But know this, using 7-8 golems to take keeps are not good tactic or great knowledge. It shows lack of skill.
It’s one thing to use as last resort, it’s another to abuse as first.
Anet, there needs to be a golem cap, or a golem nerf. There is no reason why a fully upgraded keep should be allowed to be rushed in less then 1 minute.
Lower skilled servers will abuse this fact to cap keeps/towers.
And now, 8 golems took a fully upgraded Garrison in less then 1 minute. I ask what’s the point of upgrading, especially when it does not benefit you.
I.e – Usually it takes about 6-7 hours to upgrade a keep, the time spent and the gold spent on upgrades and any possible siege can be made mute with 1 minute and 7 golems.
Golems are ofc a different issue, however my point of rewarding upgrading, escorting and repairing is that it would make it more attractive.
As it stands now very few do and as very few do we have loads who doesn’t care if it gets lost. They can just retake it.
People running in and upgrading during an attack already happens. What I see is a few excuses to not add wxp to a part of the game that being overlooked.
Upgrading, escorting and repairing has always been ignored. Not only by the ones behind the game but also by those playing it. Very few stays behind and does the hard work.
We all enjoy the game in different way, why shouldn’t our way be as rewarding as any other part?
I can promise you that there are more people who has never paid for an upgrade, escorted a dolly or placed a siege then there are people who spend 95% of their time doing nothing but.
And after this patch, it’s become even worse. 70 man zerg on your bl who choses to ignore and defend a fully upgraded keep with the mentality “We will just retake it” and instead farms bags at a camp. Thank you Anet for encouraging this!
“We will just retake it” is the biggest insult to the ppl who has spent 6 or more hours upgrading (again their own gold) and escorting dollies for that keep.

Fair enough building siege would be bad. But upgrading, escorting and repairing should, as killing, capping and wxp-training, be rewarded too. Many spend their time and gold to sort out things like this and it would be nice to see that accumulate some reward.
As of now it’s an ungrateful job.
You took our Hills . Piken held it all morning/day and night. Had a lot of fun defending it though.
My only complaint is that when Garrison was taken no sign of attack was shown on the keep and that I was unable to add the needed buffs in Hills (not sure why that didn’t work tbh).
Other then that, it was exactly as I expected it would be. Looking forward to even less upgrading, escorting and repairing,
Yes that is true. As it stand it’s too easy to golem rush a fully upgraded keep when no defenders. I see this as a different topic all together though that needs to be sorted.
Speaking from personal experience I have been spending days and weeks in our bl upgrading, escorting and defending. The only show of that is in how much supply I have spent in a life time etc etc.
During the months since release I can count on my fingers the same ppl who always stays behind, using their own gold to upgrade and build siege.
It’s time our effort gets counted in the sum of all scores. Add additional points for every type of upgrade bought and every dolly escorted.

As it stands now stacking up on points in WvW is a high priority. We see a lot of rushes capping stuff in our boarderlands.
A problem I see a lot is that we have more players interested in capping and then moving on. Then we have a few souls left behind upgrading, escorting and defending.
Unfortunately that work is not as appreciated as it should be. My suggestion is in regards to that.
How about adding a certain point addition based on the upgrade lvl of the camp, tower and keep you own? This way the work based on the ppl staying behind is valued in the total sum of points you earn.
Maybe even give a 1 point tick for every dolyak you escort in as well?
This might not be the best of ideas and I’m sure it has flaws. But something needs to be added in WvW, point wise, in regards to upgrades and escorts.

Over a week as really way to long to allow events being bugged. Something should have been done or even said. Bad!

Not going to rate commanders, I will however mention two commanders who I personaly think does an outstanding job.

- Guild commander but always motivating everyone on the bl to follow.
Bloodwyne – Piken Square
- One who gatheres every lost and lonely wvw soul and do wonders with the numbers he have at that given point. A boarderland commander worthy of his tag.
