D/F is a good versatile weapon
D/D is not a really good combat setup in PvE, but give you more mobility while running around in the Open world. It’s a good compromise while leveling and doing map completion.
Staff is the highest dps weapon of the profession, but it use a lot of AoE, so it can be tricky when you are kitting stuff and they don’t stay in your AoE.
S/D or S/F is only a good weapon set if you use the Lighting Hammer (which you don’t have yet). This is more of a dungeon weapons set, not that efficient when you solo or level up.
As for leveling. At level 18 you can access Edge of the Mist. It’s a WvW mode where a lot of ppl are doing karma train and a good portion of the ppl there are leveling their alts. Ppl usually prefer to explore the game while leveling their first character, but if you don’t like doing that, you can try EOTM.
At level 22 you can PvP. It’s not a fast way to level up, but it can be the most enjoyable way of doing it. You are 100% equal to any other player in arena match. You can access to everything other ppl have access too from the start so veteran player have zero gear or build advantage over you. But not everybody like to PvP.
Thank you !
But , What is EOTM ? And about the gear and weapons where can I get better of them?
And I like pvp I will try it when I will reach level 22.
Hey !
Im started to play with Elementalist and right now im level 17.
Whitch weapons are best for leveling with missions? I have all the weapons but some of them like scepter are from low level and have bad stats, (level 8 weapon) and my armor is also bad. is there way to get good weapon and armors not from the blackmith? I have 40 silver for now.
And there is another way to level up? do mission all the time is boring.
Sorry for bad english.
Thank you.
WvW means exactly that. You open the WvW window where you will see your server and two others in various statistics. You can click on the button of any of the three borderlands or Eternal Battlegrounds (those are the areas where the servers sight each other) and get transported to that map to join the fight. This is the only time when you will play against your friends, if you pick another server, because they are part of another army, if you will.
In PvE, there are no restrictions to who you can play with other than server region (a.k.a. where your data gets processed, EU or NA). Likewise, anyone on any server in your region can join your guild, go in dungeons with your or play PvP with you.
The way the game is set up works kind of like this: All players in one region get lumped into a pool. Then, when they log in, the game looks at a number of factors – guild membership, friends who are online, the language they picked on installation and so on. Now let’s say you want to go to Wayfarer Foothills with your character, and 1,000 other players want to go there, too. Each map can support a limited number of players, let’s say 100, so the game takes those 1,000 players and sorts them into ten or so different copies of Wayfarer Foothills. People in the same guild will likely end up on the same copy, people in a group will end up on the same copy, people who have their game set to the same language will and so on, until the maximum number of players is playing on a copy, and a new one gets created. There are always players entering and leaving the map, so usually, the individual copies won’t be full, so if you end up on a different copy of the map than a friend you wanted to play with, you can join that friend’s map copy, or they can join yours.
This system means that outside the WvW mode, where your home server determines which side you fight on, you can play with anyone you like, like I said above. If there’s anything else you want to know, ask away, that’s what the forums are for
Hm, From what I understand:
When I get into server “X”, I get into certain region that determined on my details(guild, friend list in game, etc. [ I think ? ] ) .
And If my friend get into server “Y” or any other server with the same region as mine(That he is on my guild, friend list . etc), we can see each other and play together PvE or PvP.But on WvW its determined on the Servers. Beacause they need to fight each other, So we cant fight together . but we may can fight each other.
And that mean. players that i see now on my server may be from another server?
That’s pretty much it, yes.
The more factors match, the more likely it is that two players end up on the same copy of a map, but if all else fails, there is always the “Join in…” option.
And no, you can’t be sure what server somebody is from unless you ask them in PvE. The players on any given map could be from Aurora Glade, Elona Reach, Desolation, Riverside… any server, really, though the game is supposed to put people from German servers together, then those from French servers and so on. It gets a little confused at times, I sometimes end up on Spanish servers for whatever reason, but usually, it works well enough.
Thank you very much, you helped me a lot !

“Connectivity issues” means that some people might be unable to log into their accounts, it has nothing to do with getting on a server with a brand new account.
GW2 has a megaserver system, meaning that people get put on maps based on factors like home world, language, guild membership and a few other things, to avoid empty maps if a server has very few active players in some areas. But a player can also freely switch between the different versions of the same map. The game does not put up strict borders between servers, meaning that, for example, you can end up on the same PvE map as someone from Elona Reach while you play on Abbadon’s Mouth because you are in the same guild. If you want to play with someone else and get sorted into different maps, join their party, right-click their character icon and select “Join in [name of map]” to get onto the same map shard.
Your home world only matters when WvW is concerned, which pits server against server on special maps that are not part of the normal PvE experience. To get on Desolation, you will need to wait for a spot to open, so yes, another player needs to leave the server for that to happeb. But it’s not guaranteed that you will get that spot, because there is no “waiting list”, and someone else might be faster than you. Getting on a server that is full is pretty much a gamble.
I still haven’t undetstood the part of playing with someone in another server.
When you said “map” u mean to area in the game? how someone can be with you in same guild if you are in another server? and WvW is mean 2 servers meet each other in certain area and fighting?
Sorry for too much question and for my bad english.
Thank you very much for helping.
It’s not a bug, the server is full, as in, it’s reached its maximum capacity of active accounts. You can’t play on Desolation until someone transfers to another server and you manage to snatch their spot before someone else does.
Server choice only matters in WvW, though. You can play everything else with your friends, even if you are on another server. If you want to start playing and get to know the game, pick another server, start playing and camp Desolation for open spots. Then put all your non-soulbound stuff in your bank, delete your characters and transfer for free, if you don’t want to pay gems to do so.
Oh , Then what this talking about: ?https://twitter.com/GuildWars2/status/579948171465531392
I dont understand how can I play with friends on another server . ?
and you wanna tell me if atleast one will leave Desolation, I will can get in?
and what the chances that I will be the one who will get the place ..?
Thanks for reply
Two days ago I bought the game, I tried to open character in Desolation Server, where all my friends playing , but the server is full and im still can’t open a character.
Is it going to be fixed sometime? Until that I can’t play. . .
Edge of the Mists is great experience and can be done starting at lvl 20 I believe (if you’ve beaten the game on another toon, I believe you can enter at any level). It’s usually massive zerg’s of people running around capping points on a PvP map. You access it by pushing ‘B’. Once you hit level 30 you can start doing dungeons, you’ll get about 80% of the way towards the next level on each dungeon run. New storyline missions appear about every 10 levels.
