As I didn’t go out of my way to complete season 1’s meta and just WvW’ed as normal, its wasn’t a inconvenience. I’m thankful that anet gave me rewards for playing the game mode I enjoy and would have played regardless of seasons.

Could be a lot of reasons. Your backstab will be effected by toughness and all that. I run a 0/30/30/10/0 build Valk gear with ruby orbs Zerker weapons amulet/rings and PVT earrings. On average I hit a real 80 for about ~6k with backstab. That number will change depending on vulnerability stacks on them or might stacks on me.
