To my understanding this game was marketed to have a player controlled market, where players decide the cost of items available through normal gameplay as well as the gold to gem conversion prices.
I don’t mean to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but if Arena Net controls the price of gems for cash, the amount of gold(and other currencies for that matter) available in game, the cost of items from vendors, the rarity, appearance and usefulness of the items available through normal gameplay and the appearance and usefulness of the items available for gems, dont they in fact control the market and conversion prices, or at least have a fair degree of control over it?
I apologize if this has been asked and answered.
The design definitely feels off. It almost feels like you were suppose to either focus strongly on one or two elements and receive a lot of benefits from them and have 2 weaker elements or focus on attunement swapping. Unfortunately the design is bad, and theres little use in Fire or Air, and 20 into Arcana is nearly mandatory. I’d actually love to see a trait redesign for Elementalists, but theres no chance of that happening.
I actually had to argue with a guardian the other day who insisted we had a fall damage trait. Its not a huge deal, but I’m pretty sure we are the only class without one, which is a bit odd.
I’ve noticed the Halloween ghost NPC Ramsus, who does the Lunatic Inquisition, has a scarecrow staff. Is there anyway to actually get this item?
I use Judge’s Intervention and Bane Signet, with a Hammer and Staff in SPvp. I never really have problems catching up with anyone. Staff is great for tagging people quickly and it never gets old beating someone’s face in with the hammer. I havent tried this in WvW yet, so its hard to say how well it works.
Just want to say there is a LOT of misinformation in here. The GW2 Insider page pulled incorrect info from my reddit thread that was posted by somebody that was guessing at what the last stage of the recipe would be.

The only problem is, they’re all just as expensive as they were. I’m not seeing anything on your updated recipe that indicates a price drop. Actually, with all the Mystic Coins it seems to require, it might be pricier than previously thought.
Yeah I honestly do. Its a bit ridiculous to expect anyone but the supremely dedicated or the very very rich to be able to craft this. And only the very rich could do it during the event. Its awesome to have things like this for those people to craft, but the skins for the three craftable Halloween weapons don’t seem worth it. These skins should have just been a couple hundred candy corn a piece from a vendor and some darker more exotic skins should have been able to be crafted, with one for every weapon type.
Agreed. Unfortunately I think they limited the more dark items to the black lion chests.
And unfortunately I don’t much care for most of those skins either(just my opinion). The scythe staff would be awesome for my necromancer, but I’ve heard the black ghostly scythe animation for the necro’s spell doesn’t line with with the scythe head.
I dont think it looks crappy, its just doesn’t look very witch-y/warlock-y to me. I do agree that the difference between the male and female version is quite large, and I would have been more inclined to purchase one if it was more along the lines of the female one. The skin itself looks pretty cool though.

I don’t think anyone is asking for free things. I think people are looking for something they can realistically work towards within the time frame of the event. I think thats a very legitimate thing to want to discuss and critique the event for.
I agree with you.. Even though we can get the legendary weapons later on it’s just weird that we have to wait until after the event to actually be able to obtain it ‘cause Lodestones are impossible for me to obtain cause of my level and yet you get to have this awesome staff for 3 or 4 hours which it’s just saddening and makes you want the perm staff even more which again is impossible for me to get at my level…

I want the staff on my necromancer as well, but it doesn’t seem worth the investment.
I don’t think any other weapon skins do I’m afraid. It seems a bit more work is usually put into greatsword items.
I have to say, RIFT’s holiday events were done the right way. Lots of little trinkets and cosmetics purchasable for special event currency, as well as some rare drops that one could get lucky and loot, or purchase for tons of platinum on the auction house. I wish ArenaNet would have a look at how Trion handles their holiday events.

Eh you’re going to have to invest yourself heavily into the bow if you actually want it. Crafting it is no easy task. Not really worth it, but thats just my opinion. You can use Google to find the exact method to craft it, but you’ll need some Halloween drops and rare materials just to discover the recipe to craft it.
I think the real problem here is rewards. The only items in game that require a significant investment are the legendary items, and to a lesser extent the 3 Halloween skins. But to be honest, I cant say any of them are really worth it. I think the majority of those skins are mediocre. Theres very little to invest yourself in, and none of it seems like its worth the effort. Maybe others don’t share my opinion though.
Theres a chance that its a design decision. A few tridents use staff models, so its possible two bows might use the same model.

So much unwarranted entitlement. Grow up guys. I thought the OP was going to talk about something like the event not being fun, or costume brawl. But obviously his fun is dictated by whether or not he can get weapon skins. Which is ridiculous.
Just because you aren’t disappointed by Anet obvious like of grinding now, doesn’t mean the rest of aren’t. Some of use find it fun using/collecting the skins, though not at the high amount of work that they require, unlike how it was with GW1.
Exactly. While I never played GW1, I’ve heard a lot of praise, and it kind of sets the bar for what should happen. I don’t feel entitled to an awesome holiday event, I feel disappointed and let down because the majority of what I find fun feels out of my reach.
I think this sentiment is the real problem. Instead of playing the content and enjoying what they added (which even 1/4th of the way through, is awesome) you are not having “fun” because you cannot get the rarest items in the event? If that is your idea of fun then you are going to have a bad time in life. Do you get mad when other people win the lottery? Do you not find work “fun” if you don’t get a promotion every week?
Its this sense of entitlement that is really disgusting, play the game for fun. Gaming should be for the journey and not for the destination, remember its all just pixels anyway.
I think the real problem is, everyone has different opinions and points of views, and no one wants to understand that thats ok. You’re enjoying the holiday event so far, and thats great. Im happy people are enjoying it, and I hope they continue to. However, not everyone is, and there shouldnt be a problem with critiquing the event so that everyone has the ability to have a good time. It has nothing to do with getting the rarest items. I use to play Rift and I loved their holiday events. Even if I was level 10 or lower, there was always something I could participate in that was fun and felt rewarding and worth my time. I spent hours and hours collecting the holiday currencies to buy fun and entertaining cosmetic items. I never once got lucky and got the rare mounts to drop for me, but that was fine, I had some trinkets I liked and worked hard for. Thats what I enjoy doing. Its what I find fun in a game. I dont know how many times Ive purchased transmutation stones to change my outfit thus far, and I really dont want to think about how much money its cost me, but I enjoy it. Im not asking to be handed a complete set of legendary items or whatever you consider the shiniest shiny. Im completely fine with working for it. I work two jobs near minimum wage, and I dont complain. I dont particularly like my job, but I do it. I do however, like to know that my entertainment is going to be, well, entertaining. And right now, for me, its not. And it seems other people feel the same. I prefer bringing it to ArenaNets attention so that everyone can have fun instead of just having a bad time. I dont think thats unreasonable.

I was thinking about buying some keys, but I figured something like this would happen, so I waited. Its nice that they said they’d look into it, but I’m guessing nothing will be done except a quick apology and an explanation of RNG, with a lecture about how having a “chance” at items doesn’t guarantee anything.
To be quite honest, this killed Halloween for me. Well, it was the final nail in the coffin anyway. I live in south Florida, and the Halloween spirit is completely absent. The largest collection of Halloween items I’ve seen was at Target, which had a whopping 3 aisles or so, right next to the aisle with the Christmas lights and Christmas cards which are already out for sale. Heck, the mall where I work already has Christmas decorations hanging up. Not a single home in my neighborhood has even a pumpkin on their porch.
I was looking forward to the event to get me in the Halloween mood and remind me of my days trick-or-treating. Instead, it feels like a slap in the face from ArenaNet. The only rewards I had interest in, the weapon skins, are so insanely impossible to get, they dont even feel like an option. Either A ) Spend $50 on keys and hope I get lucky, or B ) Collect as many holiday mats as I can and grind the few months it will take to get the rest, so that by March of next year I might possibly be able to craft the Halloween staff for my necro.
As awesome as the decorations are around Lion’s Arch, the celebration just feels empty and lacking. I’d hold out hope for an awesome Halloween boss, but I know its just going to be a giant chest with a .01% chance at a holiday skin and I’ll get stuck with 3 blues and a worthless green.
Does anyone know if it is intentional that several Trident models are the same as Staffs?
For example, the Pirate cultural set in Lion’s Arch has a Staff and a Trident that share an identical model. More interesting is that the “Speargun” model, is actually a Trident.
This isn’t limited to the Pirate set, so is it safe to say these models were intended?
I noticed this the first day of release and it has bugged me ever since. Its affecting both of my Sylvari which both use different faces. It constantly looks like my characters have a swollen/shut eye and its incredibly annoying.
It seems to be a Darkhaven and Tarnished Coast problem. I just logged back in but now the trading post is down.
It might still be server related. I’m on Tarnished Coast as well.
