Non stop crashing since the update [Merged]

the windows 64 bit client isn’t really 64 bit.. it uses the same DAT file that the 32 bit version does. The only changes are that the LAUNCHER is 64 bit and gives the game a slightly higher memory string to read from.. the game will still crash just the same.

The processes are all still 32 bit as well as all the files except the launcher.

I have been having crashing problems since HoT launched.

At first the people on the forums were inclined to believe it was a Nvidia problem or AMD problem since people with Intel HD video DO NOT GET THE OOM crash.

Since the halloween event ended, the crashes had subsided some (leading me to believe it was a mismatch in the coding from a 3 year old event) but today, the game is just unplayable for a lot of people, me included.

I can log in and i crash almost immediately. If i do make it into the game, i can stay on between 3-10 minutes maximum, then the error box to report to anet pops up and the game closes.

I hope they fix this ASAP because right now there are a ton of people who are starting to get really mad.

Same here.. Running windows vista home edition.

The crashes were happening 5-10 minutes apart during the halloween event and then got better when that ended leaving the game crashing with the OOM error only every hour or so.. but after today’s update, i login and crash almost immediately.

Crashes almost as soon as i log in.. I can stay in a maximum of about 4 minutes then it crashes… shortest time has been 1 minute after logging in.

My character was in tangled depths if that helps any.

Always Horrid lag in EB on Reset night

Anyone know why the lag is so horrid on reset night in EB?

I know that its reset… there are a ton of people there, but last night people were disconnecting left and right, skills wouldnt go off, i was seeing people rubber banding all over the place.. and it wasnt just me.

It seems even worse since HoT..

Could this be part of the OOM error also? I know there has been problems with memory fragmentation in the game since HoT release, but last night seemed especially bad.

It isnt my connection, ping or anything like that..

It isnt just me.. so i know its not my hardware

There was no patch etc.. so slow the connections from server..

are the servers just overloaded?

Oh and also… the que wasnt as bad as i have seen it.. 32 when i got disconnected.. and i have seen it up in the 60s a lot of times.. so it wasnt a huge que load either.

So, are 32 bit client users left out?

it was programmed as 32 bit game
it was designed for 32 bit systems
sold as a 32 bit game
with 32 bit requirements
if it doesnt work… they should fix it..

still standing by that statement…

BTW.. if you goto your process thread and look when the game is running, it is still a 32 bit game.. the only thing they updated was the launcher to 64 bit… and all it does is allocate a little more memory so it doesnt crash as often… but it WILL still crash because the oom error is still there!

Extremly low FPS

yeah.. they screwed up the way the game handles video in HoT release.

I think part of the problem tracking it down was that they also turned on the 3 year old code for the halloween event at the same time.
Hopefully they will be able to get it fixed before the thanksgiving or christmas events pop in a few weeks.

OOM Crash

“I had Vista-64 running on a Core 2 Duo in 2008, and i think you can also use your
key for the 64-bit version. "

there isnt a seperate key or anything other than the 10 meg launcher you have to download.. place it in your GW2 directory and run.. thats it.

No changes have to be made at all to your account, settings or anything.

Like i said above.. the game is still 32 bit, but as a cheap work around to the problem they cant seem to fix, they added a 64 bit launcher, that allocates slightly more memory in the initialization phase… that is ALL they did.

oh.. and btw for those of you on the 64 bit client saying you have no problems..

check your process threads..

The game is STILL 32 it.. 32 bit processes etc..

the launcher is 64 bit… but the game and the dat file itself is 32 bit..

always has been.. always will be

the 64 bit launcher just gives it a little more memory via longer strings..

the game sill still crash with the memory leak, OOM error.. but it will just take longer

they should fix the client… you shouldnt have to upgrade.

simple as that.

your machine is above the min specs which means their client is at fault.

if they list it, sell it and market it as a 32 bit game.. and it has 32 bit specs.. they should fix it

ok… my point being…

if its broke.. fix it..

it was programmed as 32 bit game

it was designed for 32 bit systems

sold as a 32 bit game

with 32 bit requirements

if it doesnt work… they should fix it..

simple as that..

upgrading to a 64 bit client WILL NOT FIX THE ISSUE… only prolong the time it takes for it to fill the memory and crash.. IT WILL NOT PREVENT THE CRASHES…

“The fix is to reduce your character limit setting down to Medium, Low, or Lowest (depending on your current setting) or upgrade your PC to 64bit and use the new (beta) 64bit GW2 client.”

This helps ONLY because it takes longer to fill the memory … so you dont crash as often.. but you still crash eventually when the memory fills.

Upgrading to 64 bit is impossible for many people right now due to financial issues. Not everyone can run out and drop hundreds of dollars on new systems to play a game that is supposed to run and run well (or did until the release of HoT) on the systems we already own.

autopsie.6159

Oh and btw…

The 32 bit client was crashing for people on 32 bit systems as well as 64 bit systems.. Upgrading the client to 64 bit in order to handle longer strings isnt going to fix this issue. It may help (if you can afford to upgrade).. but you will still crash with oom as soon as your memory fills.

The problem has something to do with the code for the holidays interfering with the new UI style i think… but them again im not a programmer.

I know there are tons of other bugs that need to fix as well.. but something that was keeping people from even playing the game for almost 2 weeks at launch should have been a major priority… or so i would think.

Also.. will you be offering refunds to the people running 32 bit clients and OS? since the game was sold as 32 bit? It is 32 bit btw…. the requirements havent changed.

With the OOM crashes that the game has been getting lately, i expected to see a fix sometime before the first week was up.

Now we are approaching the 2 week mark since release date, and no fix yet.

The crashes seem to have settled down some since the Halloween event ended on the 4th, but the game still crashes every few hours. (it was crashing for me every 5-10 mins)

I filled out support tickets and the reply that i got back was to remove memory from my PC (only have 3gig system ram and 1g video ram so that isnt going to happen) and that i needed to upgrade to a 64 bit version of windows (which i cant do right now because of financial issues).

The game was released as 32 bit, is 32 bit and ran PERFECT before the release of HoT. This means that it isn’t my system.. its the games code.

EVERYONE was getting OOM crashes at some point since launch.. especially if they were in populated areas.. it was really bad in WvW, the new jungle maps or pvp waiting room.

Since the crashes have settled down some (not fixed by any means) im suggesting that they may be tied to the 3 year old code for the holiday events… so expect them back at christmas etc… if they arent fixed by then…

So.. my question is this..

Are the people running 32 bit client just screwed?

Is Anet planning actually fix the 32 bit client or do they intend to drop any and all support for it? (as it seems they dont support it now from the response i got from the support team)

Client Crashing - Constantly

NEVER had a problem with this game until HoT…. Getting crashes every 5-10 minutes like everyone else is… OBVIOUSLY a problem with the game… not my PC, so i emailed support and here is the reply…

THEY TOLD ME TO REMOVE MEMORY FROM MY PC and it was a WINDOWS 32 BIT problem… Not the game.. WTF..

my husband can run this on his laptop with intel UMA with only 32M of video memory and shared 1gig system memory.

THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH NVIDA cards and the game client, not our pc’s, and needs to be fixed ASAP.

UPGRADING TO 64 BIT WILL NOT FIX THIS… it is a game client issue!

Please get this fixed or refund me the money i paid for a game i can no longer play because of bad coding…

Hello —-—-,

Thanks for getting back to us.

The issue you are having is known as an Out Of Memory Error. While we do have some suggestions for helping players work around this issue, ultimately we need you to understand that this is a limitation of 32-bit Operating Systems and not actually of Guild Wars 2 itself. The main issue here is simply memory limitations inherent in 32-bit Operating Systems.

The problem comes in the form of the additional video memory your graphics card has:

— Display Memory: 2257 MB
— Dedicated Memory: 978 MB
— Shared Memory: 1279 MB

This is where it gets a little complicated, but the short version is that the additional memory can push your total available memory into negative numbers resulting in crashes or simply, “out of memory errors.” Some players have resolved this by upgrading to a 64-bit operating system. Others simply have removed physical RAM from the system to bring the memory totals closer to values intended for that revision of Windows (32-bit). Obviously removing RAM from your PC is not an ideal solution but I wanted to give you all the information we have learned regarding these issues. You can read more about this issue from Microsoft here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929605. The important part is listed below:

“For example, if you have a video card that has 256 MB of onboard memory, that memory must be mapped within the first 4 GB of address space. If 4 GB of system memory is already installed, part of that address space must be reserved by the graphics memory mapping. Graphics memory mapping overwrites a part of the system memory. These conditions reduce the total amount of system memory that is available to the operating system.”

One solution presented by players being affected by this is to change the “Maximum pre-rendered frames” in the Nvidia control panel. To do this:

Right-click on your desktop and select “Nvidia Control Panel.”
Select "Manage 3D Settings.”
Scroll down until you find “Maximum pre-rendered frames” and change it from “Use the 3D application settings” to “1.”

Once completed, click “Apply” to save your changes and try Guild Wars 2 again.
