Please post your build where you’re doing 15k backstabs, 5k+ hits, perma blinds, are tanky AND evasive.
It was an offer what others are thinking how to make thiefs playable again. I said nothing that it exist. Can you read?
honestly that wouldnt be fun but 15k isnt achieveable with backstabs and where are you getting this 5k hit lol i think at this point youre telling me to roll a mesmer who can lock you down and insta down that 15k health pool. (i know it was your suggestion but my mere retort is other classes can do that)
also another thing to note every class has a way out or invuln.
-warrior – endure pain
-engineer – elixir s
-ele – mist form
-mesmer – distortion
-necro – extra health pool
- guardian – renewed focus
- ranger signet of stone
- herald – shield 5 ability
I dont know maybe I am wrong, but I dont think thiefs deal no dmg. They deal good amount of dmg of course not such as it will be possible to kill in few sec and then run away. This will be too strong and it was here already before. Tere is reason for current thief dmg
lol thief does do damage but everyone just does it better everyone has way more lockdown and way more hit potential than thief does. actually what am i saying all other classes do things better than thief right now. druids and they’re pets cause blind way more often than they should and engineers have easier access to stealth than thief does now also. btw our damage comes from stealth and backstab which is now negated with the amount of reveal in this game now.
Ok but as someone that plays thief for past 2 years, I say that you are wrong we are underwhelming right now. your idea of hit and run tactics have no play in spvp only works in roaming wvw as thieves need to constantly reset a fight in order to just be able to survive in most situations. Due to specializations thieves inherently lost a lot of power and everyone got more survivabilty and control; elite specializations strengthened some of their weaknesses ie. reapers have a stability through abilities and dh has stronger range option. Thief elite spec daredevil gives you a staff and extra evade….evade which is already a core part of the game and everyone has that function already. yeah we have shadowstep but druids have a blink, mesmer has blink, ele has lightning flash, dh has leap and judges intervention.
Lets move onto weapons now. Thief still has no viable range option and requires them to be in anyform of danger constantly to get hit. mostly melee weapons and a 900 range shortbow. EVERYONE in the game has a viable range option that outclasses short bow. Shortbow is mainly used for utility and mid range kiting but still youre able to get hit by almost all abilities.
feel free to argue some of my points but these are my thoughts. thieves have no play right now in this meta where control and survivability are key

I think the bigger misstep in marketing was the lack of character slot. It’s basically a neon sign saying “We’re really greedy and will squeeze you for every penny we can!”
This is quite laughable. I love the amount of people who think they’re entitled to free stuff just because they’re veterans . The only greedy people here are people asking for free stuff. You’re still paying the price for the expansion as everyone else. If you own the core game already since launch, GREAT! You have enjoyed 3 years of free updates and support for the game while you probably have stacked hundreds of thousands of hours for game who only have to pay once for. Not only that but the free updates and support will continue you to come before and after the expansion. /Thread
Where you are wrong is not in are you a veteran or not.Every new expansion that comes with new class or race must include a free character slot.HoT has 1 new class so it must have 1 free character slot. It’s that simple….
I’m reading it anywhere in the Eula where they must include a character slot for each expansion. So what I’m left to believe is that you think you are entitled to free stuff.
honestly what i think they all mean is that why should it come with a core game to something we already have, to me that is the biggest slap to the face as some of us that bought the game when it first came out and dedicated time and money to the game get nothing but an expansion. also consider that in previous guild wars titles (though stand alones) gave out 2 character slots for a game that was the same price as the first. Also listening to an outcry of people can help them as your competitors may win over your players example when wow:MoP first came out they listen to their community about not being able to have a monk class if they had all previous 10 classes, they listened and gave out that slot. Sure we shouldnt be entitled for the character slot but its a nice gift to players and a great incentive.

This seemed to work on Windows 8.1 (latest updates): disabling “Automatically detect settings” in the Network > Proxy control panel.
Not sure if this was just coincidence, or something else was fixed. Perhaps the new launcher is more sensitive to network issues / crappy proxy detection? I had previously tried basically everything everybody else had in this thread (repair, run as admin, disable firewall/av, uninstall/attempt to reinstall).
It’s a simple setting to test out, so it might be worth a shot.
FWIW, That fixed it for me as well – I no longer have to run the launcher with -email / -password / -nopatchui.
This is on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings
Make sure “Automatically detect settings” is UNcheckedFunny thing is, I usually disable auto-detect but apparently I have gotten lax in my old age.
EDIT: This fixed the issue on all 3 computers. I think we have a winner!
This worked for me too. Thank you crowd sourced solutions!
i wished this worked for me but so far none of the solutions have im hoping there will be a resolution for this tomorrow
In the other thread someone discovered that disabling auto proxy detect solved the CoherentUI crash issue.
Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings
Make sure “Automatically detect settings” is UNcheckedThis has solved the issue for several of us on both Windows 8.1 and Windows 7.
man i tried that and wished that work i already had it unchecked to begin with
great tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it, and now it wont even install into my computer
has the problem been fixed yet?
