Ranks were adjusted before the links. Now they are not. Any balance there was has been screwed up. So what’s the point of doing it at all? And please don’t say because they want to make money of transfers.
So ArenaNet apparently cannot be bothered to do basic communication with us anymore. The new server linkings are horrible. As a direct result my home server now faces a French PPT monster server-combo that upgrades and sieges every single keep in the game in a way that makes any German server look like amateurs. And the last couple guilds we had left couldn’t stand it any longer and took the emergency exit to FSP/Vabbi. So apart from not even a handful of servers, everyone else is absolutely screwed and falling apart and that is apparently not a problem serious enough for ArenaNet to lose a single word about. Not a single post about this, no information about any kind of plan or if this server linking horror will EVER find an end. Total communication blackout towards an angry community! Instead threads just get closed. No criticism wanted. Is this a way to treat customers who have been playing your game for over 4 years, desperately sticking with the game mode they love despite being completely under-appreciated?
It is as if you really want to just kitten us off and get rid of us.
Can you at least post a comment about that? I am serious. This is not meant to be a joke. Can you tell us if you even want us to be playing WvW, or would you rather get rid of the game mode altogether as soon as possible?
It honestly truely feels like the latter.
Honestly, there is nothing left to do but be sarcastic and let out all the frustration… it is simply sad to see how this game mode has been completely destroyed.
It does not make the slightest bit of sense, i have completely lost faith in what Anet is doing with server links. Piken just rolls over any matchup for 6 weeks and yet they get linked, so all the bandwagon can stay there for easy wins. FSP is strongest fight server and gets a link, already people are moving there in masses to get carried. Desolation and SFR who are not anywhere nearly as strong as those two get NO links. No one can tell me that there is any plan here, that this does anthing but destroy most servers and WvW overall as a game mode. I alwys thought the theory about them wanting to make money through transfers was crazy, but now i can’t find any other rtational explanation. That or they want to get rid of WvW altogether, which will happen inevitably if all but two servers are basically dead and communities get destroyed on a monthly basis. Honestly, why not turn the servers off now and save us the slow death?
I do not understand this change at all. First they introduce skirmishes to reduce the effect of nightcapping, and then they do the exact opposite by letting upgraded objectives tick higher. Another week, another totally random update…
This is really becoming unbearable. Our new matchup involves 7 servers in total, 5 of which got boosted by this manual adjustment, yet all our commanders tagged down after two hours of reset because there was literally nothing to fight! I mean read that statement one more time, and then tell me, ArenaNet, that there is any sense or plan in what you are doing besides ruining this game for everyone! At this point what are we even playing for? The rankings are meaningless, the links are a joke, the matchups are horrible… just… stop… this… MADNESS!

We tried to enter a German keep yesterday, only way to get outer open was with trebs, cause you couldn’t go anywhere near it. Not surprisingly inner wall had a long galore of cannons as well, and before we could even start taking one of them out our whole blob was dead in an instant…
As if it wasn’t hard enough before, we can now essentially stop trying taking anything but a paper tower.
This was a horrible decision and i know it is going to annoy a lot of people to the point where they just quit. Please revert asap!
I don’t feel like anything has really changed. It is still the PPT server that wins the matches.

And yet they are leading by 41 victory points, cause all they do is cap empty objectives and siege them to high heaven.
We have already witnessed servers hiding and running away from fights in the last phase of a skirmish because they were afraid to be overtaken. ^^
I think EU should be merged into 12 servers (4 tiers). If population drops further, delete another tier in a year or so.
Then we can delete the game mode in a few years as your “solution” is completely rediculous. It doesn’t address the issue that is people are leaving the game in general due to being fed up with the abysmal class balance. It also doesn’t address the issue of players stacking on servers or the population imbalances there in. All your “solution” will do is reduce the servers and keep rewarding the causes of what led WvW into its current state.
No i actually agree with him. The world linking was the worst that has ever happened to WvW. Sure there are a lot more issues than that, but nothing created as much imbalance and randomness. I personally know people who left because of this. Communities struggle, since guilds and individuals transfer all over the place. Matchups have never been more unbalanced (i am speaking for EU servers now, i don’t know about NA). What are we even playing for anymore, when the whole situation gets turned upside down at the next linking?
Merge some of the lower populated servers and then leave it the way it is. People will still stack on the top tier, but when the overall population spreads across less servers, it means more fights and action for everyone, less “dead” matchups and in a couple months the situation will have somewhat stabilized.
Reducing the relinking period is a bad idea. Continuing this at all is a bad idea.
And maybe, just maybe, the guys at Arenanet have then time to adress some of the other issues of the current game, like class imbalance and all that.

No, fact is that T3 keeps, towers and SM has been too overtuned ever since autoupgrades and fortified hit. Which in turn is aggravated by the fact that defensive siege like ACs has been overtuned for years. All it does is discourage physical PvP, ie fighting.

I agree with you, however i can’t imagine them ever taking out defensive siege from the game or tone it down in any meaningful way. I mean where do you even start, where do you stop?
However i still think, you should look at SM and the other keeps differently. The borderlands are a totally different story. It is something that basically “belongs” to the home server and thus it shouldn’t be as easy to flip. There must be some means and incentive to defend your home. Otherwise the borderlands would indeed just become an endless karma train.
On EB on the other hand, everything evolves around Stonemist. It is the only neutral objective in an otherwise evenly distributed map. The effect a sieged up SM has on all the action is just too big. You need the third server to double team to even have a chance against an organized defense. Otherwise you just get wrecked by siege over and over and no one can tell me that there is any fun in a all-evening futile siege of SM. And sometimes it gets even worse, i’ve seen servers use it as a base for basically spawncamping the other servers. Just gather all the blob in front of their keep exit and don’t let them even get out of it. But once they get some resistance, you can be sure they’ll pull back into cannon range and if necessary go back in.
I’m sorry but that’s just not what i wanna face in WvW over and over again…

U better can go EotM if u want to flip every 3 minutes an objective.
This sounds more like u missing out on champion bags and karma then actually trying to improve ur server. Oh and some reward track ofcourse.
Yeah you got me. That’s the only reason i made this long-kitten post. Cause i am missing out on SM lord champions bag. It would be nice if you’d not stop reading after my first sentence. They could tear SM down and make it an empty flat space for all i care.
@bigFM My server very much loves fighting. I agree it really sucks when stonemist has like 200 ac’s on every gate, but if both servers pressure it you’ll get in eventually and by god there is nothing better than 2-3 hour long smc lordroom fights.
True. Those fights happen from time to time. But is it really necessary to endure the endless siege wars that come beforehand? I’ve had epic three way fights in an SM that wasn’t upgraded.
I actually like having sm upgraded every now and then, because when servers actively defend it you get the real epic fights. Otherwise ebg is just a 24/7 ktrain.

I am surprised you see it that way. Maybe that has something to do with server mentality? On my server we want fights. Most of the people i know play WvW cause of fights. If we have the choice of capping a tower or going to the nearby orange crosses, we don’t even have to think about it.
And that’s how EB used to be, it was nonstop fighting, at least during prime time.
Now it is hiding behind siege. And it does happen all the time! It does. Gandara in our current matchup completely dominates and has had T3 sm every day. And not too long ago, when we faced Desolation week after week, it was them who had it… all… the… time.

Yeah, good luck with that when you have no one online to do that or are heavily outnumbered at certain times.

That stopped when the kitten auto-upgrades were introduced. Back in the day SM was almost never T3. It took a lot of commitment to get it there and thus it was something special. These days the situation is totally different: SM is now T3 basically every day. The night-active server will just cap it and in the morning it is automatically upgraded.
And in my opinion this is the root of all problems with EB!
Instead of fighting, people just hide inside the castle walls and build arrow carts, jump onto cannons and use all other kind of crap, even airships. I mean, really?
One zerg just can’t get in, bangs their head on the walls, gets wiped by siege over and over, while the other zerg just doesn’t wanna come out for a fight. And what happens in the end is the attackers can’t be bothered anymore and log or tag off, or switch to another map.
Thus EB is dead most of the time.
On multiple occasions I watched commanders tag off because people did not follow their tag but instead stayed inside SM on their precious siege to defend this stupid thing.
I have been on either side almost every single day for the last months. And it doesn’t matter if you own it or not… it is annoying and it just kills off all the fun.
My suggestion would be to just take away the ability to upgrade SM altogether. That would finally make EB a bit more attractive and fight-intensitive again, cause this map right now is just a shadow of itself in my opinion. If this keeps going on, it is just another nail in the coffin of the game mode.
So what is the point of the linkings, if the desired matchups never happen? FSP is “fighting” Baruch and Kodash twice in a row. My server Gandara had the most boring reset ever against SFR and Elona, so people logged off in masses after 1 hour. And i can’t imagine Piken having lots of fun against the French.
These last three weeks i had to watch a couple of good friends uninstall the game, cause they just can’t deal with this amount of bullkitten anymore.
Makes me totally sad what this game has come to…

Are you afraid already, FSP? Thank god you have the help of 2 other servers or you would never stand a chance against the French alliance! Be aware, you will also face more arrow carts than you saw in 4 years of Guild Wars. If and when this matchup ever happens, i am sure you guys will be delighted…

In my opinion this whole server linking experiment is a mess and just an incredible fail and should be called off for good.
There is absolutely NO balance any more. Some pairings just steamroll everything and because of the link they grow even stronger with each day the bandwagoners roll in. People just transfer like crazy and there is no server identity or cummunities any more. Once you get to know the players of your linked server you can already say goodbye to them and deal with a whole other bunch of people, that probably spawncamped you just a couple days ago.
At the beginning i thought it was a good idea, but only if they link 1st with last, 2nd with 2nd last and so on. But now it just seems absolutely random and i can not follow any logic in this system. The way it is now, it contributes to the death of the game mode more than anything.
The fact that Arenanet doesn’t even reply to all our pretty valid concerns is so annoying, i can’t even put it into words…
Just unlink all servers and then merge some of them for good, so the smaller playerbase distributes on fewer servers overall, then lock it down and don’t mess with it anymore and just let us play in peace.

Linking FSP with 2 servers… give me a break. I can’t take this serious. They are already miles ahead in this matchup and will most likely outnumber everyone 24/7. It will only get worse though, once those two servers fill up with bandwagoners. This is pretty demoralizing tbh. I can not understand the reasoning behind this decision and think linking should be redone asap…^^

No it was not! Players disappearing and teleporting all over for me. Simply unplayable. This better be fixed by tomorrow reset…
