Reaper Changes for Next BWE

in Necromancer

Posted by: bytes.1650

bytes.1650

I’m looking forward to the next BW to try out these changes.

However, as others have said already, I would urge you not to balance PvE damage against dagger as it is not a competetive weapon.

As far as I know, reaper was supposed to offer group support through damage as the class in general is not a reliable source of group wide might/fury/protection/vigor/regeneration or block and it’s debuffs can be easily covered by other classes without issues.

So raw damage is all that is left. As it stands the necro has no way of competing with elementalists, thiefs or any other class really and I don’t believe that these changes can close the immense gap that has been present in the game for years now.

Please compare the necro/reaper with what other classes can do and balance accordingly instead of using the best of the worst as a baseline.

Upcoming changes!

So, how many years until swords autoattack chain will no longer be rooting you in place? That would be a useful change for once.

How is this still in the game, can a dev please explain why this is a thing in a game which is supposed to promote mobility?

Are skins going to be gemstore exclusive?

I never said they removed the free alternative, but these skins are pretty old now. And every armor set since then has been a gemstore item, now it’s starting with weapons too.

Just curious if this will continue and if Anet actually believes people will stick with that approach.

Are skins going to be gemstore exclusive?

I recently got back into GW2 and one of the first things I noticed were the ‘new’ armor skins in the gemstore.
Cool I thought, we had some at release, it’s only natural Anet will release more of them, have to make money somehow.

Updates continue and hey, even more items. Now we have the Phalanx armor and what have you and some days later we get shoulders plus gloves.
Well alright, I’m sure they will be some new items and dungeons available in the game.

But guess what, todays update does not have a dungeon, but an open world zone and even MORE skins you can buy in the gemstore.

This is seriously becoming off-putting; every cool or interesting items nowadays seems to be tied to the gemstore. The only thing we can get while actually playing the game, is an ugly backpiece of some sort.

So my question is, will this be standard practice from now on? Are skins pretty much gemstore exclusive and dungeon sets/weapons a thing of the past?

The end of this fight is the oddest thing. I usually don’t even get hit by agony, i just get downed and defeated a split-second later.
According to my combat log, i wasn’t hit by anything, nor am i dead.
But it still happens in almost every run, while another person can stand right next to me, picking their nose and nothing happens to them.

Jeez, his post is not that hard to understand. Strife mentioned the needed progression for WvW and SkyChef replied that no matter what you do or add, it remains dumb because the zerg wins.

I.E: even if they add progression, it won’t be interesting for a “good” player because his individual awareness of his class/surroundings won’t make much difference.

It is the most frustrating MMO experience there is. For every nice little thing you find, three other things will kick you into the shins, the loins and finally slam their knees into your face.
This leaves you bruised and battered and puzzled why all of this needs to happen.

Don’t get me wrong, i really like pvp. I played a ton on SP during the old UO times, i loved the open pvp in WoW when it was still around; bashing chaos warriors in Praag was good fun aswell.
But the WvW in GW2 bores me to no end, it’s a deathmatch blown up in proportion.

A risen is obviously as dumb as a rock, the dungeons are a bit harder though than an overworld mob, so that is not really a valid comparison.

And honestly, the WvW buffs don’t matter at all, nobody really cares and says “oh no, we can’t do the dungeon right now cause we’re missing 2% MF from the WvW buffs!”.

I understand your frustration though, my own server is pretty terrible in WvW aswell. I wish you could still change homeworlds, just with a bigger timer on it.
Charging 20 dollars/euros so a computer will flip a switch in a database is pretty ridiculous.

-Culling makes WvW an awful experience
-Running in circles with the occasional stop to hit on a door and building a ram is not really exciting
-Fighting for an arbitray scoreboard in an instanced nothingness is boring.

That is my biggest issue really. Not having factions is a good thing in most cases, but it’s awful and boring for pvp. You fight against people who’re the exact same as you, over a place that is “somewhere” and for no reason.

Rares. Lots of them.

Ectos are 32s right now. Sure, there may be more of them then there were before the patch, but now people are actually buying/getting them to build some very expensive items.

So not only has the price stabilized already, it will probably rise again in the future. These things are a key component in absolut every high-level crafting/mystic toilet recipe and will NEVER be worthless.

One core flaw in my opinion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The game simply needs a test-server, pronto. If Anet would stop experimenting on a live environment of such a scale and actually take a moment to see what is really going to happen if thousands of people get their hands on the stuff they just put together; the game would be better off.

Instead we have to fight tooth and nail (after the fact), over every little thing with the devs and their sometimes blatant stubbornness (the ordeal with the FoV and camera distance comes to mind).

But no, we get the guild missions system as it is and completely shut out a substantial amount of people; effectively introducing a raid-gate into the game.

I really don’t know why they like to make it so hard on themselves and the players; who’re left in frustration about forced implementations of changes in the game which sound good on paper to a group of 4 people in an office, but are horrible to ten-thousands of players who have to live and play with it.

Necro Update Patch

in Necromancer

Posted by: bytes.1650

bytes.1650

Ok, so minions are fairly bad but take up a considerable amount of potential utility skills and traits.
Condition builds are severly limited due to obvious reasons; power-builds are not viable because the axe is not strong enough and the dagger is single target (and one of the few melee weapons without a gap closer, thanks for that).

But none of that is a core issue with the class and its available playstyles? Well alright then, guess there really is no point in having a discussion on the official forums.

So why are you even playing? You repeatedly post about how bad things are, we repeatedly refute with actual in-game play knowledge. According to you no one should ever play a necro and they aren’t viable anywhere. Except that’s not true at all. Good tpvp teams always have a necro. The top wvwvw teams love necros.

you have no concept of reality, and you have no point outside of bashing Necros. Find another class if you think this class is horrible all the way around.

Power necros are very strong. Condition Necros are still the top at what they do. MM is strong and may be even better now.

Your opinion is not based on fact, it’s based on your inability to play the class the way you want too. Go play a theif and leave the necros to those of us with valid legitimate issues.

Rennoko has a valid issue with condition capping. Chips has a valid issue with DS UI being crap. Bhawb has a valid issue with Signets being almost worthless as a basis for a build. I had a legitimate issue with Axe damage being sub par. Dagger/Well guys have issues with inability to lock someone into a well or even slow them because wells are one dodge out.

You have no point , no valid complaint. you just get on and rant, and no matter what anyone says you just keep whining. This leads us to one conclusion. You shouldn’t play a necromancer.

Last post i’m going to make here, i might aswell talk to a wall. I went into more detail about the things which aren’t really working right now, but because i mention them all, instead of picking out a single one, i don’t have a point and am just angry?

And you never refuted any of these points. You get excited about miniscule details of skills or extremely limited situations where you can use them.

“Here i’m putting a heavy bleed on my enemy with Blood is Power, while giving myself Might. On the downside, i bleed aswell, but i quickly transfer that bleeding onto my enemy aswell by using Deathly Swarm! Truly the necromancer is the king of conditions!”

That is marketing gibberish you will find in teaser-videos of game devs and nothing more and most definitely not incredible ingame-knowledge.

Necro Update Patch

And obviously does not change any core issues with the necro, but i assume nobody thought we would see something like that in this patch.

You know how you fix the core issues you see with the necro? Play the class for awhile. Those “core issues” go away. It’s a class that takes practice. Also, when you’re just getting started, play a little bit of everything (open world PvE, dungeons, WvW, s/tPvP) even if in the long run you just want to focus on one aspect.

Thanks mate, really good advice there. Sadly though, my necro is in full exotic, has countless hours of dungeon runs, fractals and general pve under his belt.
I spent a lot of time, effort and ingame gold on this character, so i really shy away from just shelving him for one of the classes that’s working right now.

With that said, neither GW2 nor the necro class are exactly rocket sciene. It does not take an insane amount of time or pratice to figure it out. And if you’ve spent some time with different videogames, you will notice all the holes and leaks in the classes design.

But keep on trucking, band together with like-minded people and convince yourself the necro is a pretty good class afterall.
Personally, i feel like playing a Tech in Alien Swarm and shooting that one lone alien which tried to creep up on my team.

Credit to the team, no doubt.

What’s your beef? There are some trait reworks so they effect minions now. Nobody uses them really and it does not help with their awful AI.
If my car is a 25 year old heap of junk it won’t be any better by putting some nice rims on it.
Boon stripping is, like i said, mostly interesting to sPvP guys, it has no real place in PvE right now.
Axe #2 gets a 10% buff and you’re all excited? Come on, the weapon still hits like a wet noodle, mostly because it has an awful autoattack.

And about the cleave thing, i kinda doubt Anet will just remove it from the bigger weapons; the very fact that a large weapon will hit stuff around you, even without an active target is an essential part of their “woooohooo, look at our active, totally not tab-target combat system”.

Necromancer vs the Great Lupi - Tactics!

in Necromancer

Posted by: bytes.1650

bytes.1650

I assume you range him, that is what most PUGs do afterall.

In phase 1 you can make an effort and dodge the grub spell, you want to dodge when GL raises his hand towards the sky. If everybody is at least trying to do that, you get almost no grubs at all.

Phase 2 is definitely the ugliest in a PUG and the reason why i bring Spectral Armor and Walk (and Blood is Power to boost the damage you can do to him actually).
Don’t get freaked out by his bouncing projectile, but either dodge, or go into DS if you are low on health or your heal is not ready.
If he is phase-walking towards you, wait till he gets close and dodge. If you’re low on endurance, hit Spectral Walk and simply run away. In case that skill is on CD aswell, you can activate the armor to mitigate the damage of his hit. With protection and the necro hp pool you’ll be fine.

If you get into Phase 3, you’ve bascially won the fight. It’s a good idea to cripple him every now and then so he can’t catch up with people so fast, but other than that; there is nothing really that should endanger a ranged group.

None of the necro elites are useful for this fight, really, so you might as well ignore them.

And sometimes it’s inevitable to get downed. I had fights where he absolutely would not let go of me and after 2 dodges, my DS pool and my utility skills, i landed on the floor.
GL then continued to shoot his projectiles at me until i was defeated proper.

Overall the fight is not that difficult, but can be a real pain if you have someone new, or someone who runs about like an idiot.

Lets talk End Game - Zones

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: bytes.1650

bytes.1650

Nobody has an interest in these zones after a while, because they really aren’t that much different than the stuff you see in any other mmo.

GW2 does not make any use of phasing; so i follow the emotionally dead rock, sorry plant, around Orr to cleanse the place. We eventually win, but not really. Because everything still looks as dead as ever, so zero impact coming from the story.

And the events are the same really. The biggest thing that can happen is you lose a WP/Outpost, that’s it. Which downgrades events to simple quests, with the only difference being, you don’t have to pick them up from a guy before you do them.

You just work your way through your checklist, check out an event a couple of times and move on. There will never be anything new or interesting, you’ve seen it before and it’s incredibly limited.
So really, why would i want to escort some guy for the 387th time, defend him from some undead and then take over an outpost; if i have done this so many times before.

Events all follow the same, very predictable pattern. And after a while, that just gets kind of boring.

Greatest strength & greatest weakness.

in Necromancer

Posted by: bytes.1650

bytes.1650

DS is a good oh-crap button.

Other than that:

-Low dps
-Power specs aren’t really doable/viable on a necro
-condition specs are slow, terrible against structures and can can be completely negated, even by pve mobs
-Terrible mobility, no vigor
-Awful access to stability
-Long cast times on most spells
-Minions still enjoy their plenty share of idle time
-Wells could be good utility but are incredibly unflexible, have a long cd by default and even mobs walk out of them.
-No projectile reflect or nullify
-Not a single group buff

I’ll stop here. But don’t forget: we do things “differently”.

Theorycrafting: 4 Necro/1 Mesmer Berz CoF Run

in Necromancer

Posted by: bytes.1650

bytes.1650

But synergy is just one of my points; where is it coming from as a necro? To pick up the warrior/guardian/mesmer example; the guardians provide the security, warriors the offensive buffs, the mesmer doubles and extends them and boosts the auto-attack aoe damage of the whole team.
Coupled with easily stacked vulnerability, this makes for a good combo.

The necro though does not fit very well in this equation, nor can i see any potential to amplify what we do in a combination with the rest of the classes.
There simply are no buffs at all, nor debuffs which can’t be applied by someone else.

What does corrupt boon do, if the conditions are already on the target anyway? Pretty much wasted; a mesmer on the other hand could at least steal them if he wanted too.

I think it’s a bit short-sighted to say we do things differently when really we aren’t doing a whole lot. As you say, the usual role of a necro or warlock class is attrition and nuissance, but conditions as a whole are already overabundant and applied by anyone.

So what is left? Sure it’s funny to trick someone with spectral walk and epidemic (if it weren’t for the awful cast-time) has it’s obvious uses, but other than that it’s a bit dry.

The necromancer was one of the classes where the devs said, at the end of the last beta-event, that it needs some love. And many, many months later, it still does.

Theorycrafting: 4 Necro/1 Mesmer Berz CoF Run

in Necromancer

I neither try to mock, nor befriend you. It’s just that you seem to be forums go-to guy (among a few others) that will pick up every single critique someone makes about the necromancer and say “no actually it’s quite good, i don’t know what you’re talking about”.

This attitude almost always goes along with posting alot and very frequent, so if any dev ever would actually take a look into the class forums they’d get the impression that everything’s fine.

Meanwhile the class can not compare in the aspects of damage, utility, group-buffs or debuffs even.
Because the one’s you actually need; others can put up even easier, faster or at least just as well.

In the end we’re at a point already where the game has the so often dreaded trinity. Instead of bringing the rest of the classes up to par, a few guys in the class forums scream and shout “no it’s fine, leave it and screw the elitist speedfarmers!”.

If you get a group of people together and would find yourself unable to beat these two paths, then you should probably stay away from dungeons anyway; so finishing that is hardly an achievement.

And please enlighten me, what exactly did you fight extra in this path, other than the bridge? Because there is nothing else you can skip and if that takes you 30 minutes instead of 6 to 7, then i don’t see what exactly is awesome about the whole deal.

Why would anyone want a necro over others?

in Necromancer

Posted by: bytes.1650

bytes.1650

The problem is, a setup of power warriors and mesmers will absolutely outperform any condition build. It is fast, upfront and does not need any time at all to kick in.
And the less time you spent in the battle, the lesser the chances are of somebody dying or getting downed.

The lack of a viable power weapon and the lacking utilities are biggest gripe with the class right now.

Mind you, i’m talking about PvE. But i can’t think of a single situation there, where i would be happy to have a necro in my group instead of another class.

Another weapon, working for a 2h power-build would really help. Otherwise, everyone’s going to be a warrior/guardian/mesmer in the next few months.

Or give us some useful buffs. Or good utilityskills other than epidemic which only amplifies the otherwise inferior condition damage; just anything Anet, pretty please?

Why would anyone want a necro over others?

in Necromancer

Posted by: bytes.1650

bytes.1650

This discussion very much reminds me of the old Warhammer Online Swordmaster forums. A class which was terribly balanced and flawed at its core, yet had a group of very vocal advocates.

I do not deny the fact that you probably can kill pretty much everything in PvE if you’re running with a decent group and you will not fail simply because you’re bringing a necro.

Playing one though requires you to jump through a million hoops, only to get the same outcome a different class can get with ease.

There literally is nothing a necromancer can bring to the group that’s unique to the class, or make it stand out among the rest.

The notion of “we can deal with conditions like no one else” makes me especially laugh. We have the extremely inflexible wells on (if not traited) long cooldowns. A warrior will simply bring “Shake it off” and is a hundred times more effective. And converting the boons on the mob into conditions is a nice gimmick, but nothing else.
If we had a realiable way to really stack vulnerability to high amounts, that might be desireable.

As it stands the class feels as cumbersome and rough around the edges as it did in beta.

But then again, class balance in PvE is just off right now. The Warrior/Mesmer/Guardian meta is just too strong and easy for almost every situation, at least in comparison to everything else.

I’m playing a human female engineer, and i wish i could swap my rifle animations with the ones of my human male warrior.
My engineer shots everything from the hip, which looks completely ridiculous; even more so because a lot of the higher level rifles have a sniper rifle look.

The human male warrior though is actually aiming properly, which makes sense with a potentially 1200 range weapon.
Maybe we get a shotgun in a future addon and the often asked about sniper kit, but right now the rifle on a human engineer looks stupid.

Account bound Item issues

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: bytes.1650

I’m having trouble with some account bound items; to be specific i can’t move them around on my account.

I crafted a bunch of Mystic Salvage Kits earlier and they clearly state “Account bound” at the bottom of the tooltip, yet i can’t move them onto other characters through the bank.

This is fairly irritating, because the problem persists for a week at the very least and you need gemstore items to craft them in the first place. I reported this bug before and i know of a couple of people who did the same.

Dungeon tokens behave in a similar way. You can store them in the bank, but you can’t retrieve them with another character. While the tokens are account bound now, they behave just like a soulbound item, so you can’t move them into another characters inventory.

Please look into this, these are pretty small, yet annoying bugs to deal with.

Warrior Banners: Don't allow everyone to pick them up

I recently started to use the banners on my warrior and they’re quite nice.

However, everyone, no matter if grouped with me or not can pick these banners up, walk away with them or outright drop them like every other bundle, which will destroy them.

This is incredibly annoying and i’m not exactly pleased by the fact that just about every person can take away my groups buffs or destroy them because they don’t care about skill 5 and will just waste them, to get rid of the thing they’re holding.

I would welcome a change that will only allow the warrior, or members of his group to pick up and move these banners.

Really hope you’re doing something about this, thanks
