Also here to report a drop in FPS, from 35-40 average on med-low settings to 19-20 with the patches. Also noticing that when I close out of the game my CPU usage hangs at 50% and memory at anywhere from 30%(10% higher than the idle usage) to 70%. Ran virus and malware scans just to make sure I didn’t pick something up, but no detecting. Am also on an AMD/ATI card:

something that’s been bugging me for awhile now. The animations on the characters are right handed(which is fine, majority of people are). But all the asymmetrical shoulder and hand pieces put the heavier/more armored side on the right arm and hand…which is the side facing away from your enemies in a combat stance. Seems backwards to layer your armor on the least exposed side, not to mention all that weight would hamper movement on your predominant hand and arm.

Maybe that’s how asymmetrical armors were designed in medieval times, but just doesn’t make sense to me.

In Disney’s Gargoyles, it was pronounced Wih-vern, not Why-vern, and like any educated and intelligent person in the world, I base all my pronunciations on Gargoyles, because Gargoyles was the greatest kitten ed cartoon ever.

I can’t help but chuckle at the “you were born corruptible, whereas we need to die to be corrupted.” Were you not born to die? Isn’t that the pentultimate outcome to any such life of the more fleshly of races? You were indeed born corrupted, because it is your very fate to die.

Anyone looking for a Roleplaying guild, especially Piken Square or Tarnished Coast are advised to join http://www.guildwars2roleplayers.com there is a forum and a guild recruiting thread you can search through like a telephone directory

Thank you, bookmarked to look through. That said though I’m on the Henge of Denravi shard, it’s the one the friend who got the game for me was on so that does make it a bit more difficult.

as a player who has only been here for a month now I can’t help but agree with the OP and other RPer’s posts here. Pretty much since I started playing I’ve been keeping my eyes out for both random RP and RP guild recruitments and the thing is, there really isn’t much of either. I even tried with a post here on the forums and while I’ve gotten quite a few offers to join guilds, not one has been an RP guild or even a guild that housed some roleplayers in their free time.

I did luck out once and get mapped with some people in an RP guild who were doing chest runs, and I introduced myself in character, and they immediately invited me to their group and told me to talk to their leaders/recruiters to join, but when I talked to the recruitment officer, I was given a ridiculous list on how to join that clearly told me that they really didn’t want new members. It was much beyond just an in character interview and would have required a lot more time in the day than I can play. And I get the feeling that’s how a lot of RP guilds are going to be the further things go, especially with the GvG coming(though I think GvG is a great feature, not knocking on it at all). Ultimately, RP tends to be clique-ish by nature, but now with the way servers work and how near impossible random RP is to find, it’ll only get worse. It should be organic, but the way things are you have to actively seek it, hunt it down, then hope to be accepted. Either that or try to meet the expectations of those who clearly don’t want you around, and the barrier for entry is going to be even more difficult for new players.

I always wonder if people who throw around that “masterrace” stuff know where the term originated from.

Hint: He started World War 2

Spoiler: It’s been around longer than WW2

And I didn’t use Frog. He was …kinda garbage. =P

I seem to be the only person in this game to want this but…why not Hyleks? Imagine a Hylek Guardian…if you can’t then here you go:

the trinity system in gw2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

corrosivechains.5476

Here’s a summary of the hundreds of previous threads on the subject:

4. HOLY TRINITY

[~] Threads for reference:

[+] Arguments in favour:

  • That other game has it; we’ve seen it done there and enjoyed it.
  • No Holy Trinity means no dedicated roles. No roles means no distinct place for you in the world and no way to master your role, which in turns means boring gameplay.
  • Absence of dedicated roles leads to issues with gear diversity, such as “zerk meta”.
  • Trinity provides easier ways to create new encounters, including challenging ones.

[-] Arguments against:

  • That other game also has the frustration of waiting for a certain type of player, gear treadmill, open-world PvP and other things which spice up the life for some players while annoying other players. GW2 is a different game which caters to less competitive players: you can play what you want and how you want (and complete it at your own pace) – which is what makes GW2 loved by many people who bought the original “revolutionary” MMO.
  • As easy as it seems, combat in GW2 is rather deep and has a lot of room for self-improvement and “fun”. Further reading: GW2: official Blogpost about the Holy Trinity – the philosophy behind no holy trinity explained by developers. Dungeon speedclear videos can tell you about tactics, guides – about builds and rotations which provide best class synergy; sPvP has variety of builds, team compositions and map tactics and tricks are very important there; WvW roaming is unique – all this requires different sets of skills, traits, weapons and tactics which become better if you’re in the right party, even if there’s no trinity.
  • Constraints are fun for some; freedom is fun for others. You can be a healing WvW thief, a buffing DPS ele, an unkillable Nomad troll warrior – your role is up to you to decide, but you will still be able to complete content because the game doesn’t pigeonhole you into a single role.
  • Instead of one gear meta for all players, there will be one meta for each trinity class – and nothing will really change.
  • Absence of holy trinity is refreshing. It also allows to bring new types of encounters which benefit from non-trinity mechanics.

[=] Current state of affairs:

  • “Holy Trinity” threads are often met with negativity because players are already enjoying the game the way it is and do not see a reason to scrap the old established system which is fairly unique in favour of a generic one. Minor changes to things like condition caps or mob AI sound like better ways of gameplay improvements.

You may also try searching the forum for the previous threads, for this see this sticky.

This summary was made by 1 player and is very biased for his point of view.

This. Neither for nor against the “holy trinity”, but clearly when the first thing talked about in the first link provided had absolutely nothing to do with the proceeding bulletpoints, kinda shows a bit of fallacious presentation.

Just want to thank those people who contacted me in-game about this post, even though none were what I was looking for. They sounded like helpful guilds for new players and if I weren’t craving that RP itch I haven’t scratched in a few years I would have been more interested.

Thank you again, guys and good luck!

though relatively new to the game and still have a lot to do and catch up on, an expansion doesn’t seem too bad to me, though like others expressed I’d like to see it done in a less “traditional” sense. Level cap should stay where it is and new PvE content/maps should be added to the existing level ranges. The constant moving of the goal posts expansions in other MMO’s brings gets redundant and really is trap to both developers and players.

Growing up on MUDs, one of the most exciting things was addition of new zones, they didn’t try to add new level caps, they integrated them into the world as it existed. With how levels in the different zones work in this game it’d work easily within the framework to go back to that sort of system.

Would be nice to see some new races, weapons(like great-axes/halberds off the top of my head), pets for the pet oriented classes, new engineer kits(would love a sniper kit, I wanna be Matthew Quigley, was disappointed that rifles == shotguns), etc.

EDIT: just apologizing for some of the redundancy of my post, still waking up

Hey, I’m pretty new to Guild Wars 2(just got it for Christmas), and am looking for something a bit more active. I am currently in a really small guild that belongs to the friend who got me the game, but he only plays about once a week and since I’m more active it gets pretty kitten ed lonely just running around by myself and maybe engaging in the odd mapchat conversation here and there. Though new to Guild Wars, I’m not entirely new to MMO’s/MUDs.

Though I’m new I think one of the main things I’d like in a guild is RP…not strict RP since I am new and have limited knowledge of the lore, but would like to join a guild that does so within the bounds of the lore, as well as show me the ropes when it comes to PvE beyond just running around maps doing quests. Since I’m on Henge of Denravi server(again the server my friend is on) I understand that such a guild will more than likely be a cross server one and I won’t get to participate much in WvW but that’s not a major focus for my playstyle anyways.

Right now I have a level 38 Sylvari guardian, 14 Norn warrior, 14 Charr necromancer, and a level 8 Human engineer. Looking forward to hearing back from some newb friendly RPers and getting immersed into the game

I’m a new player(just got the game from a friend for xmas) and for the most part most of these things I feel are covered in the game. Of course, I’m not new to the genre(been playing online RPG’s since the early/mid 90’s)…but there are a few things, mostly related to combat, that I do wish were explained in more depth.

Like the combo stuff I really don’t know much about, and weapon swapping and how it changes your skills def could be explained to a greater degree in game.

Why do they HAVE to role play in public?

I was gonna give the OP a 10/10 for trolling here, cause I noticed they hadn’t posted any follow-up…but then I got to Djinn’s posts and have the sneaking suspicion there’s a lot less agreeing and a bit more “emphasizing my point”.

6/10 sir.
