I do not mean skins purchased from dungeon tokens. There are legendaries you work towards. If legendaries are not your thing, there some other crafted exotics that take a fair bit of effort with skins that you might like.
I have made a mini guide of sorts a while back to use dungeons as a the main vehicle to work towards legendaries. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Legendaries-The-Dungeon-Approach/first#post1267010
Some of the pointers have not been updated with the new changes but the main idea is still there. And some of which can be recycled for use to craft other Magic Forge exotics.
Again Legendaries and the other crafted exotics fall into farming outside of dungeons for the majority of there requirements. My guardian has Foefires essence unless were talking about the 500 AC tokens which takes again a few days at most, the only other thing left that falls into doing dungeons would be mass mass CoE runs for lodestones chances……………..Then your still left with the need for 2k ori ore and 250 cured leather squares. Quite honestly no one in there right mind would have went to CoE and dungeon farmed the Lodestones when Orr farming is obviously a better method mixed with flat out buying them. If weapons that are craftable weren’t TP able and if the materials needed to make them tied directly into the dungeons only then yea you may have had a case there…… but no they are not after the 500 tokens needed for gifts its back to the majority of work being done out in the world for them.
Then work on cosmetics and skins that you like. That can be another “long” term alternative..
So lets say I have every cosmetic from the dungeons that I will use on said Character and lets say I lvl’d 3 other profs to 80 and geared them out within dungeons as well, never buying items for gold or for valor but running everything on a nightly basis with a guild of 9 other ppl. Once we had all the skins we want and dungeon master titles what reason does the game give us at that point to ever do those dungeons ever again ? Even my MF gear is trans to Orrian reward armor ……my alts are in full nightmare or CoF armor , my main has a set from every dungeon. Then what ? The skin hunt is not a long term time investment in reality when you clear 3 paths to a dungeon every night for a couple months you have it all. It Takes about a week to complete a full set.
Some other form of reward for dungeon runs would be amazing for people who are in this same situation. I’m not even asking for much just anything that would give us a reason to go back to many or even some of them at all besides skins….. But again I’m entitled to nothing i paid my 60 dollars for the game and have to play or not play depending on the direction Anet wants to guide the game into in the future.
From what I gathered, ANet intentionally do not want GW2 to be a gear treadmill. BiS items can be obtained with reasonable ease (don’t know how well ascended items fit in the original intentions though). Cosmetics and skins are obviously still subjected to a treadmill of sorts.
Most of us know that they do not want it and I am not saying a proper gear treadmill format would be a fix for what is a problem to many of us who want more rewarding dungeon content. The matter still remains a problem though. The real question is how big of a priority one is it to them that a lot of us are burning out and or moving on from the game completely when we finish Dungeon master titles and our most wanted dungeon gear sets. We all aren’t into WvW etc for a lot of us our main concern is pure dungeon content.
What I am about to say is how i feel about this and my opinion only, The fact that it seems like Anet never intended this game to be for folks who only enjoy dungeons to me ties into the fact that it isn’t a monthly sub game and the measure for success isn’t judge by the number of monthly subscribers. So to me it leaves them with no worry about the purely dungeon running playerbase that would like something deeper to keep them around. So just say they are losing fairly significant amounts of players who have done all the dungeon content it doesnt spell the death of the game or does it really hurt it outside of gem sales? Some of us linger with high hopes , some of us leave and come back for a few days after a patch or wait for an expansion. To me though It seems that you have to be deeply into WvW to actually get any longevity out of this game. Which sadly I am not
If enough people want it I would have no problem with it lik anything else they might do or add. Id still continue running my dungeons in groups but wouldn’t complain that people could do it solo and obtain the same dungeon skins as I. I don’t see what the big deal would be to those who are soo against it , not like the gear we get from dungeons means anything but a fashion statement there are no stat advantages anyway so whatever if people want that let them have it.
I have a hard time coming up with any idea of what they could do to put people who already have the set skins they want back into the dungeons. This is my biggest problem with GW2 at the moment myself ,Once I get a skin I like say its from Arah and once I complete all the paths I find no reason to ever step foot back inside any of them. It would be nice if they did come up with something that works for everyone which would give us dungeon players some more incentive to keep playing. Aside from farming CoF , I never go back to any other dungeons unless it’s to gear an alt which isn’t really a good enough setup for the longevity of the game if you strictly play for dungeon running.
What I think would work, is if Anet made the harder content offer higher amount of reward(aka p4 Arah gives a fair amount of more tokens than any AC path). This means that taking on a challenging path will be more worth it than farming easy paths.
I think you are still missing this guys point here btw , Offering up more tokens won’t put people into any dungeon that they don’t want the skin sets from. I am pretty sure what he meant is he would rather have a gear treadmill type setup where as the harder dungeons offered up better stats on its gear sets. I get the whole a lot of people don’t want that and its like this so WvW is balanced and all that but some people would much rather have something more to work toward from doing all the dungeons than just a dungeon master title or skins that they like.
Kodan and Tengu , not too fussy for a 3rd.
Hidden Garden and crystal caverns because the crystals and lighting looked stunning.
My picks as well
I’ll say this much , From a pugging perspective yes they are hard anytime there is a boss in a path that needs coordination. From a guild run perspective no they are not hard, voice communication and a regular team of 5 that knows what they are doing gear setup and a balanced group makeup per encounter makes even Arah path 4 a joke.
Now though I want to say this too, for a game with no gear treadmill and no stat advantages on any set you can acquire there are still a large number of ppl with massive ego’s using the lfg site. For anyone new to the game that may not even be a bad player or a casual it’s kitten hard to get into dungeons and learn the runs at all this is a community attitude problem, from my experience with lfg site though a large number of the claimed elitist you see typing all in caps and can hardly spell anything that comes off as English are typically way worse to pug with and get anything done even if they are dungeon masters.
My hats off to anyone who does bring first timers and takes the time to teach them to get better at the dungeons this is how the most of the community should be if you want a fun and healthy game in the long run. But again it doesnt work that way with most ppl they just want 15 min runs of everything and god forbid ever having to take a little bit of there time to help get more people into the dungeons that’s all it really takes is generally one or two runs guided through a path and the average person has it down by then. But typically all i see is that if your new and have never done a path then you’re automatically bad and casual.
Basically the game is not that hard but in a large number of cases mostly through LFG site it’s the attitudes of the ppl who are supposed to be elitist and pro that are making a lot of the runs harder than they should be. And no I have never had a problem clearing any path of any dungeon and I don’t really think the difficulty should be tuned down or up , I do think a lot of the ppl who are into forming pugged dungeon runs need an attitude adjustment.
I agree with you 100%. But expect flame now for a lot of this from the people who want to believe everything dungeon related and endgame is perfect, It’s all i ever get when i bring up some of these same wants, concerns, and ideas.
