Hey DB, here’s a tip:
When you push into a point, you take it, and not run out.
Like this.
Happy travels.
I agree that more fractals need to be added… Though only 1 negative comment:
“Re-play the searing”
Erm, that’s already there… It’s the one where you turn into a Charr! there is a hint at the end of that fractal that something big is coming… I imagine that’s the meteors that fall on ascalon… Though I may be wrong!
I’m talking about the siege on Ascalon at the beginning with Rurik. You’re battling in Pre.
I’d also like to see Rotwing as a fractal. Have people go into Majesty’s Rest and battle Rotwing again.
Copying existing stuff isn’t exactly my definition of creativity. On one hand, I want to see these settings in GW2, sure. On the other hand, it’s hardly a show of creativity. Don’t tell others to be creative by using generic examples.
The Cliffside Fractal … now that’s some creativity in fractals. More on that please.
I disagree. I’ve ran into SO many people who just don’t know what I’m talking about when I reference original Guild Wars gameplay. It would be pretty great for them to be able to at least go through a fractal of FoW or UW so they can at least see how great GW1 truly was.
Either way, I’d like to see more fractals that have to do with Tyrian history.
Some suggestions for additional Fractals:
Underworld
Fissure of Woe
Urgoz Warden
The Deep
Battle of Fort Aspenwood
Battle of Jade Quarry
Re-playable GW1 Missions
Re-play the searing
Re-play the titans as Rurik fighting the Heroes, give us an alternative ending
Added
Battle of Rotwing
Be more creative ANET, there’s so much you can add to this game. C’mon.

Hey guys! I just recently did a recording/stream about Mesmer’s Phantom damage.
54 Minute VoD (http://www.twitch.tv/diae_fair/b/377880614)
14 Minute Warden Highlight (http://www.twitch.tv/diae_fair/c/2029753)
The phantoms that I cover are:
- Wardens
- Duelists
- Swordsman
- Berserker
- Warlock
You will also get to see my traits and I’ll cover why I picked them. I take a break in-between covering all the phantoms, and I come back to the Wardens again re-capping everything.
I hope you enjoy it, and any real questions are welcomed!
I urge you to please listen to my traits and how I explain and even show you why I picked what I did. Remember this is not a shatter build.
Thanks! I appreciate any constructive feedback.
I streamed some TC back-line action with Coral by my side tonight as we busted FA and KG out of our BL and invaded FA to demoralize them further. Excuse video/audio quality.
You can view the video of our victory here.
Afterwards, Coral and I went for a spot of tea at the Capitol, where we rested our weary hearts for the next day.
Love always,
Diae Fair
(aka: “Danni” or “Lore”)Ah…Danni… Danni… hope no BL has been crashed today!
Oh, you just got a special visitor. Look beside u!
>_> ~~~!!!! the server is in tip-top shape! I have nothing to do with it’s maintenance. Please execute all complaints into a bin, and then light them on fire. <3

If you want to travel quickly, don’t rely on focus swiftness alone. Use Blink and Phase Retreat (from staff) as well. To use Phase Retreat, do a quick 180 turn and cast the ability while you’re not targeting any enemies, then turn around again and continue running.
And of course, as others said, there’s always runes of centaur.
@ Esplen: Ranger used to be 10%, but that signet was buffed to 25% a while back. The tooltip still says 10% though I believe.
I’m aware of these. I usually don’t run with blink on unless I’m portal bombing. Call it a blessing or a curse, but mesmers have so many amazing utilities I can’t pick 3 lol. I run decoy, mirror images/portal, and veil. If I portal bomb I change decoy to blink.
Also, I don’t think you have to face the target to use number 2. I’m rpetty sure you can just run past it and it will work, but then won’t that lower my speed by being in combat? I haven’t really tried it as I’ve been running GS + Sword/Focus. But with the recent nerf/bug to izerker I’ll probably change GS to staff, and go a little more tank when I get new gear
I think you misread. Don’t target any enemies when you use the staff for running. Just point your character in the opposite direction, then cast the ability, then turn around again. It jumps you directly backwards when you cast it without a target, which is why you need to do two quick 180s.
Keybinding about face works well for this.
^ I do this
Hmm Warden is good for trash mobs if you have a tank and of course for the projectile reflection. But in term of dps, i think it is lacking. Even if all hits connect, there is still a huge delay between casts (not to mention the cast time itself is relatively long). I think it is around 8s for Warden, 5s for Duelist and only 3s for Swordman. That is why Swordman is superior for dps.
As for the Swiftness, I use rune of centaur. I do miss out some bonuses from rune. But oh well, it makes me a AoE Swiftness goddess so…..
I like focus but it hurts our offensive ability in spvp. In pve anything works I guess
Ouch. Centaur runes will definitely hurt your own dps. That’s probably why you don’t see it hitting that much. I try to have 3 wardens up at all times, and frenzy in-between. Honestly everything dies before I really need to stack them, so what I use them for is superior.
SPvP, again, duelist, is obviously the superior phantom, I don’t think anybody is denying that. It definitely is superior single-target DPS, but again, it has it’s place. I definitely am -not- hating on pistol! I love my pistol, and use it.
Isn’t Pistol still the best offhand so far?
There are enough AoE Swiftness from other profession so I don’t think we are desperately need the Focus.
PvP wise, focus is ok but not great. The pull is predictable, people will dodge it because of the short delay. 2s stun from afar is a much more reliable cc. Warden do no dmg in spvp and die in a few cleave. Actually most melee clones do. That is why iDuelist is better because it is easier to position them. In term of DPS sword offhand is the best. But who would trade a 1 hit block for a 2s stun anyway.PvE wise. Warden is still not that great again mobile mobs. Swordsman dies in a cleave. So iDueliist is still more reliable in phantasm build. Of course, iBerserker is still the best since it is AoE and also applies cripple.
Offhand wise, I don’t think other weapon can come close to what Pistol can offer. Just my opinion thou.
I agree with some of your statements to an extent.
Like I said, duelist has it’s place. I run with a pretty solid core group that groups everything into melee range into a nice little clump where I can just frenzy/warden (sword 2/focus 5), and deal a great amount of aoe dps to trash.
Depending on the boss, I may use pistol, I may use gs, I may use focus. It’s entirely up to the gameplay and my style, that’s why I love swapping weapons. If I know a boss won’t be moving, and I don’t have to worry about a cleave or aoe dmg, I definitely will -always- pick warden over any other phantasmal. The damage I have seen, and proven, can not be denied. (And yes, there are a lot of bosses that just don’t have many mechanics and don’t move. I do an entire 1-3 CoE path run in full sword/focus, nearly never swapping to anything else.)
Not to mention the warden’s projectile protection field is great for instances like the Harpy fractal.
In spvp, like I said, warden is worthless. Curtain is really the only thing you use on focus in pvp. The interrupt/pull is still valuable though, don’t knock it too harshly. I agree the daze is nice, and I run sword/pistol in spvp/tournies. WvW I run GS/staff/sword+focus.
Remember: You won’t always be around an ally to give you a speed boost. Having a focus in your inventory can really help.
Please tell me what gear were you running to get your warden to spike for 11k damage… That is crazy lol and in PvP people just move out of the way of the warden and oh their fine now… and unless you are traited all you are doing is mitigating damage if you stand in the bubble.
I am running 20/10/0/10/30 — traits are III,X — II — IV — I, X,XI respectively.
I am running zerker’s gear, with rune of strength (although I have been contemplating on going ruby orb — I feel as though I do not need the additional crit, as almost every one of my attacks crit). I have exotic and ascended accessories.
3,480 unbuffed attack
42% unbuffed crit chance
77% unbuffed crit damage
I use Omnomberry Tarts as food and Superior Sharpening Stone
Here’s another picture for good measure.

Note: Might stacks and Vuln stacks also help your dps — but pay attention to the screenshots, my highest attacks have very low might stacks or vuln stacks on the target.
Also notice I do not have bloodlust stacks! I use Sigil of Rage on almost all of my weapons.
As far as PvP goes
Yes, by far, warden is one of the most useless phantasms for pvp. You only use the focus for the pull/push and speed boost. I personally run greatsword/staff in pvp (wvw, spvp)— or I run sword/pistol in spvp/tournies. You -still- have that focus though, for speed.

I think there have been a lot of great answers here already, but I’ll go ahead and give my own:
I swap between 3-4 different weapons and weapon sets, the pistol is definitely one that I use, but on certain situations/occasions. I have a power-based build that I am currently rocking, and a confusion spike build. I use my duelists in conjunction with my fields for confusion flavor, when I need to, but otherwise, I’ve found that the duelists do not do as much as the wardens (from focus) do.
Allow me to elaborate a bit here…
My duelists get up to around 7-8k ? Maaaayyybe… and that’s a stretch. Usually hovers around 6-7k. My wardens? 10, 11k, no problems.
Proof

(these screenshots were taken from a live streaming event I did where we ran all dungeons in 1 day)
Multiple screenshots to show that it wasn’t a ‘fluke’, it happens pretty often, and my Berserker does decent damage as well (certainly higher than duelists), but not as high as my wardens.
Overall, pistol should be used, and not overlooked. It is worth using for those situations that call for it, but overall, raw damage-wise, it is certainly not the optimal go-to weapon of choice.

I would love to see some underwater towers or castles added to WvW maps. The lack of underwater combat in this game is mind blowing, especially in something as huge as WvWvW (I don’t see The Temple of Storm as viable underwater combat, especially since no one really goes for it).
These underwater towers and castles could be manned by Asura and Quaggan alike.
everything was great during the dolyak parade, until, of course ICoa had to ruin it for people.
Though I am positive they were not the only ones.
Blackgate has always, and I fully believe, will continue to show me that this is who they are. Ever since we first faced them many tiers ago.
To the Kaineng Defender that /laughed at me while I struggled to defend TC’s spawn tower in KBL to the last breath with a measly crew of three people.
It is Valentine’s Day.
I have a full bottle of merlot on my desk that is gradually decreasing in volume.
My guild’s Mumble is deliberately provoking me into drinking more.
There is a chip on my shoulder that’s growing heavier at an inverse proportion to the contents of my bottle. And you, sir?
You have made yourself an enemy.
That there is legit, folks.
It’s been wonderful watching KG come into this match-up with such a presence and force. It even forced BG to ask for help from TC on Kaineng’s borderlands to take the Garrison. But don’t be fooled, pirates will still attack and kill on sight.
not enough skin in there either…
I can give you some skin… easily.
Portal Bombing, and moving slow(golems) group members around.
I think his point was that portal bombing is a negative.
Speaking of PvE exploits, I would like to add to this thread with this comment:
I would love to see dungeons getting a level cap or a level requirement to stop lowbie players from power-leveling through dungeon rewards.
IE: joining a CoE run (or equivalent higher level explorable), at the last boss, grabbing a low-level alt (lvl 30, etc), joining said explorable dungeon, and reaping the reward + gaining 8-9 levels. This is also an exploit, in my humble opinion. I am sure the developers did not intend for you to be leveling this way.
Thank you.
you cant get 8-9 levels from one dungeon reward. Exp reward is capped at about 70% of the exp needed for next lvl.
Does not make a difference.

WvW does not cost that much. If you complain about upgrading forts, don’t do it. I’ve dumped plenty of gold into forts and towers, just to watch them get taken again. It’s a constant thing. You’re never going to hold something forever. It can always be reverted. It’s a risk you take.
Mesmer portals, stealth, and teleports — working as intended.
@Sheo:
It can be. I have done that. I will blast one target, and spike down another with my might stacks. It just relies on how you toggle/utilize your buffs.
@Xander:
Nice vids. Glad to see another dagger fan.
Damage taken in death shroud does not transfer on life in pvp, bug
in Necromancer

A thief complaining about a necro (what a surprise)… sorry, mate, working as intended.
Hi Sheobix;
I’m really glad you’re enjoying it! That was the whole point of making this thread. To show that you can have fun playing Necro at 80, with some adjustments if necessary.
I really like your adjustments that you made too! I like some of the traits you took and the route you took with your runes and utility skills is an interesting alternative.
I also decimate people in WvW… it’s pretty amusing. Of course, I run headstrong into people, and never really run away. The build just makes you into this aggressive unstoppable force. You want to constantly find a new target.
if you want a powerhouse necro with a lot of damage, try this build — i believe you will be pleasantly surprised.
Great fightin’ on yer home borderlands tonight, CD. Hope ta see dat same passion fer da rest’o da week.
Awesome Lettuce!
Yeah, I have tinkered around with the build vs other traits and ended up settling in on what I have. I found that the speed boost in pvp was invaluable being melee… and getting away when needed. :P The marks are good, I just wish they did more, or were worth taking (for me).
Corruption Well is an awesome swap, for sure. You can’t go wrong with your utilities (well, I guess you can…).
I also just grab people with Spectral Grasp and move them INTO my well of suffering.
Very awesome, I am glad you are enjoying it!
Sheo, I really think you’d like my build. Give it a shot if you haven’t. I explain the gear and sigils that I use.
I do not use runes in my armor, I use Ruby Orbs. They are better for my playstyle type.
Arrr, I shall greatly miss ye, Sanctum’o Rall. Ye put up some grand’ole fights dis week, forcin’ us to stand by our loyalties and mindsets.
Let us share a few more days’o grand fights.
Until we meet again.
For da Coast. \o/
Do not start a grammar-nazi war game in my thread, kthx.
This is for constructive discussion only. I don’t care how you type.
Hey Sheo;
I have thought of BiP—but here is why I haven’t used it: condition damage isn’t that great compared to raw power, and my wells stack vuln, as well as cause a mecha-ton of damage. I tested and theorycrafted BiP vs WoS, and WoS came out on top.
I also have a mesmer, guardian, elementalist, and a thief. But I love necromancers, ever since GW1. Always will.
@JohnCrow:
Utility skills are completely based on player preference and should cater to their personal play-style. At least that’s what I like to think. I am more of an aggressive-type player, so I tend to stick with Spectral Walk for boost (both to speed and lifeforce gain) as well as Well of Suffering and Spectral Grasp to get those pesky runners. Spectral Grasp, imho, is severely overlooked, as that skill is incredible for any situation. I have even used it in PvE to interrupt mobs. It can be invaluable.
Here is the build on the site you asked for: http://tinyurl.com/9sc3aql
@Sheobix:
I like the idea, and have tinkered with the Spite tree in conjunction with Blood, but I never found decent enough traits, minus the +dmg vs <50% health. I do not use signets, personally, for my play-style, so I stick with SR and Blood tree instead. :>
Also, to respond to your edit about Orr — I am in full exotics and full berserker gear and ruby orbs… I never have -any- problems in Orr or Arah. I’ve ran with guildies and friends plenty of times. I have found it incredibly easy to farm Orr, as mobs die in just a few hits.
(edited by danni.1824)
I guess I am just comfortable with my dodge key well enough to be in melee range.
I haven’t noticed this. Then again, if it isn’t a boss, I generally don’t life siphon in low level areas. A few swings of my daggers and whatever I am attacking is dead, so it would be a waste of time to life siphon.
I would view this as a minor problem, at best. Nothing to not use the build over. But that’s just my opinion, and should be taken with a grain of salt.
@LastDay:
I am not sure what you are referring to with the life stealing bugging out. My life siphons tick anywhere from five to six thousand, and much more when heavily buffed. Yeah, it doesn’t generate that much health, but it deals decent damage that isn’t, from what I have seen, mitigated by toughness.
I have been dagger/dagger in PvE since a little after I hit 80. I’ve played this way for over a month, and I absolutely love it. It isn’t about ascetically looking cool, it’s about what I bring to the table.
Arrr, Hemlock Rose, we meet again. Ye be most annoyin’ on da field.
Tank ye fer da funs on yer own map tonight, SoR. Was most interestin’ takin’ da towas and almost takin’ yer garrison.
Like I said, my build might not work for you. If you’re afraid of being in melee range that much, then swap to staff, it’s an easy change. I find that I deal much more damage, and much more quickly through daggers and life stealing. It’s simply player preference at that point.
I simply know no fear of death, I guess.
To clarify about the daggers being useless:
Your main attack (auto attack) generates 3% life force per hit. Meaning, you’re quickly generating life force to go into death shroud. Couple this with the undeath sig if you’d like, or spectral walk, since you’re getting hit anyways, you will get into DS near immediately after engaging into combat.
As I mentioned in the first post, this is a Death Shroud-centric build. Meaning you are generating life force through dagger’s quick attack to get into DS.
(yay bold lettering)
Next I’d like to reiterate yet again that this is not a conditionmancer build. do not expect to apply conditions (except vuln from DS and wells), as the stats required for this build specifically do not stack condition damage.
@Gryph:
I disagree with you here mate. I have done just that, several times, due in part of being melee, however, escape is easy.
First, exhaust your dodges intelligently—next, gauge your death shroud meter, how much life force do you have left, if above 50%, use it. Begin to pull out.
If DS wears off, swap on spectral walk, be prepared to heal yourself, if you’re being hit, watch your life force shoot through the roof. Re-engage death shroud. Utilize your fears appropriates and use your teleport snare appropriately. Blind and immobilize if you can now, swap to staff to lay some marks.
I cannot tell you how many times using that exact technique got me out of the crappiest situations, ever.
