I agree, I want to be able to watch how my team mates are playing. Not much to do when your dead.

Expansions Vs. Living Story

I’ve been hearing recent rumors of possible gw2 expansions being possible, and now we get informed of the concept of the living world replacing the idea of an expansion.

I do enjoy the living world concept and how its played out so far, but I just want to throw my opinion out to why having it take over instead of an expansion is a bad idea…

The living world keep players actively playing the game. We are hooked onto a new problem we face in the game every two weeks now, which is great! But, using the idea of the living world for expansion material is not a great idea. What makes expansions great is the vast amount of new content we get when they come out.
Examples:
New continents and zones
New weapons and armor
New skills
New factions
New storylines

We are hit by this all at once. The fact that we don’t know what to expect throughout an entire expansions gameplay is what makes it fun. It is so big, it keeps us hooked for months simply exploring all of what is new.

Why not use the living world concept for expansion material though?
Because we can complete this content relatively fast. Once we complete it, we wait until the next thing. There is no rush to explore, or material that takes us a long time to complete. While these mini updates ( some not so mini) are exciting, they are nothing compared to the hype of a large expansion.

In closing: The living world will keep the game running strong, but what will make the game last for a long time and not become drab is expansions full of material for us to explore. I do believe expansions are inevitable, but I want to point out, from a costumers standpoint, ideas such as the living story only work for so long before we want something else bigger.

That is just my two cents, tell me what you think!

Risk Dueling

If you asked me what I felt like what missing in Guild Wars 2, it would be a sense of risk. I feel like everything I do i will come out alright, which while being all good and fine, i miss a sense of riskiness. Guild wars 1 brought this in solo farming to me, that if i messed up one thing, my whole farm was done ( IE. Underworld solo/duo, FoWsc).

I know many people might not like the idea of it, but i propose gambled dueling. I know dueling in itself does not exist but it would be a wonderful implement to see in action. Taking it one step forwards and add a gamble… while iffy, can be very fun.

Here is how it would work:
1. Right click someones character portait.
2. The normal list of, whisper, invite, cancel, ect, would come up and you would click Risk Duel.
3. The compeditor would either decline or accept (option to reject all requests in inferface menu) and then a box would come up where people would bet how much money that they will win if they win the duel. The money would have to be agreed upon by both players.
4. Who ever wins the duel the money will be awarded to them.

Now there would be more implications on where you can duel, if there is a money cap, and a time limit. I realize some people will build all tanky and healing and wait for another to forfiet which would be a good reason to add a time limit, if reached, will end the duel and return both players money.

I realize it is a far fetched idea, but i think it would add another level of pvp combat to try out, and alternatives ways to make money. I think it would keep people on their seats and give them a risk factor of going into something in the game like the original Guild Wars had.

Please comment and tell me if you guys think this is a good idea, and why or why not we should have it!

Thanks!
