SBI WvW Junkie
What kind of bug is this, that auto bans someone for using their bank as intended? Incredible…
I assume it’s a mechanic to stop gold farmers who use multiple accounts and a guild bank to facilitate their transfers.
Any anti-farming mechanic that wrongly affects paying customers who do not violate the ToS should be scrapped. It’s about stopping most of the bad guys, not stopping all of them and some of the good citizens.
That friggin stinks
They should just make all siege movable. Mobility should be determined by size, catapults and trebuchets would move very slowly, rams and arrowcarts would be quick.
I vote we stop calling them zergs and start calling them space marines.
I don’t think breakouts need to go away, but I do think they need some tweaking.
First day of patch I logged in, and our server launched 3 breakouts at the same time, because the second and third events started before the first commander took his tower. Now the other side has to deal with 3 unbreakable god-killing death machine commanders or lose 3 holdings. I was also under the impression this was to assist invaders pressing into someone else’s home BL, but it works both ways, and that makes it cut and clear that the advantage goes to the defenders, as now those east and west towers that the invaders worked so hard to fortify and defend (a common strategy to keep the home BL from having leverage to take back garr) get roflstomped.
I admit, it’s extremely frustrating when my server can’t take the east tower back because the invaders have built ballistae up on the high ground and properly placed arrow carts all over the tower. But they have to run deep into our territory to take and defend that tower. Now on top of that they can lose it even with a 20 man team on siege defending it? That needs to stop. Breakouts should not provide an unfair advantage to a team for being terrible, and by that I mean they should not spawn for defenders of their own BL.
flame rams seem to stay around forever though
Yeah rams should disappear before any other siege. They are only useful for doors, and are NEVER used defensively. So once the tower/keep is taken, they just sit there until someone from another side takes the time to destroy them (which they shouldn’t if they don’t have to as it takes up slots).
I’d rather see the Siege Devourers like you see in some of the other zones. Or something akin to a flameram, but for walls. Maybe a nice charr steam-punk style grinder looking thing, could call it “The Chipper”
And I think in terms of siege we need more anti-infantry options, like a ballista with a skillshot instead of a targetted shot.
if you were able to sell the legendary before this patch, my guess is people have only started doing it now because they have multiple legendaries already and are starting to sell the excess legendaries they have
O_O
No, gold farmers would have been selling them right from the start.
IRONSIDE that skin was from the Flame Legion zone right? Latest patch notes stated the items there had the wrong skin, and I believe the skin you have is the same as the T3 cultural Charr rifle, that I purchased to the tune of 65k karma. You’re just the unwitting victim of a bugfix you didn’t know about.
Regardless of tier, you should be facing similar numbers on the other side (on average).
They should be soul/accountbound if I’m not mistaken.
Yes, each of the BLs has its own cap. The term “server” here is probably too broad. Server means place of origin, like Sea of Sorrows, or Stormbluff Isle.
If there is a queue to a BL that means your server already has its cap filled on that map.
I disagree Grit, if you want to protect your camp you should defend it. It takes substantially more than 1 or 2 people to take a fully upgraded camp with 1 or 2 WvW Defenders. Heck, 1 player with a good CC build can go nuts on a group of 3 or 4. Camps are vulnerable by design, if they were meant to withstand prolonged undefended lengths of time, they would have walls and be called towers.
It would be pretty illogical to make the cap based on the map and not the server wouldn’t it? I mean.. if a map could only have 500 on it, and Server A put 500 on the field, server B and C can’t man anyone? That’s just silly.
I can take a fully upgraded camp in a 2 or 3 man in less than 2 minutes. I often do so in my havoc team and then GTFO before any defenders show up (stick with less than 5, no orange swords).
We don’t pull anyone out and solo them, we just roflstomp the NPCs because they are as weak as.. NPCs.
Which game sent information about 100 other players to all other players ten years ago?
Dark Age of Camelot, to name only one … make it 200-300 players in the early zerg days
To be fair a lot of those early relic runs were slideshows. A lot of fun though.
That was largely just a result of it being before ‘gaming rigs’ caught on. We were still running Pentium 3’s and just upgrading off our Voodoo graphic cards, trying to run a game with fairly good graphics (they still hold up very well today).
Hate to break the news to you, but those events were terrible on the “gaming rigs” of that time as well. And gaming rigs have been “caught on” to for a long time, they’ve just gotten substantially more powerful over time, like everything else.
weird maximus, because they’re still selling it for 59.99 at my walmart, and I live 15 minutes away from their corporate office. And it’s still listed for 59.99 on walmart.com too. Maybe it’s near the bargain titles, but that’s just walmart’s stupid, constant need to rearrange their displays because some pencil pusher from corporate thought the mindless masses might be more inclined to make a purchase if the white box is next to a blue and a red one.
If you can sell a product for a high price, you dont sell it for a low price.
This makes a lot of sense.
Yes because all those TVs that were sold the day after Thanksgiving for as much as 40% off would have never sold at their normal price.
or maybe it’s because it was a sale to get more customers in the stores to spend money on other things. Hmm.. that strategy couldn’t work with a game like Guildwars that has microtransactions at all.
Why don’t you do some research on F2P games and see how other titles (LOTRO) have actually made more money on microtransactions than they ever did on box sales. Or does that not make sense either because existing customers somehow don’t generate as much revenue as new customers?
No ProphetSword, 5 mins after would not be worse since there would be a lot less invested in it.
Fair enough. I was just trying to find out what would be a worse time.
Also, WTF is with Anet and pushing out ALL of their patches during NA primetime? And don’t give me that rationalization that if they did it at 4AM it would be Asian primetime because these are NOT Asian servers, they are North American servers. Logically they should schedule maintenance around NA schedules.
With everyone waiting for the Wintersday event to start, I would rather they did it now than at 4AM so that I have a hope of actually getting to do some of it tonight.
They could have pushed out the new build last night and then turned the new content on tonight, you know.. like every other MMO does it.

Even more ideal than 4, is PCF or player created factions. A faction system that allows a huge number of factions. In these scenarios, politics comes into play much more readily as players will form their own alliances. Downsides is the level of forum drama will be huge, but that can also be a plus. Look at Eve online, many people follow that game and its political drama even if they never played it. I mean the game itself is pretty bland in execution (the pew pew is in fact, quite boring at times), but brilliant in its sandbox nature.
While PCFs are great in EVE, I don’t know how well they would work in a game like GW2, especially since a change on that scale would basically mean scrapping the entire WvW system as it stands now, which would further drive away more players. That’s a PvP system that pretty much has to be implemented on day 0, or implemented in a situation where there is no existing PvP system or it just creates a PR nightmare.
Gearmatrix reporting in.
SBI borderlands always need help, and I need more faithful volunteers for my havoks (yes, with a k)
If you want to see how a non-tankcat engineer rolls, come join SBI and watch me infuriate camp defenders everywhere
What are the learning’s that player can take out of this video? I ask because I can’t help but wounder how it is even possible to do what this guy is doing?
I can tell you what I learned from that video. 3 things. 1, elementalists can be built to be much more effective than any I’ve come across in T1. 2, that guy really knows how to play ele. and 3, that guy loves farming badges, while accomplishing little to nothing for his/her server. If you look at all the spots he’s fighting in, he’s basically just taunting players out of their spawn to chase him so he can kite and AoErape them. Not affecting his server’s PPT in any fashion, as the fools that chase him wouldn’t be contributing anything useful except maybe in the form of being more bodies in a zerg to their own server’s effort anyway.
Don’t get me wrong, people who are built and have the skill for going solo in WvW can be very useful. For example, he could be assaulting a supply camp that is feeding a keep that his server is sieging, which would not only cut off repair supply but possibly distract enough enemies to keep them from reinforcing the defense efforts. He could roam and kill yaks, or blast stragglers who are rushing to a nearby zerg. But no, he chooses to grab the idiots (who are probably the easiest kills anyway) near their spawn because they’re dumb enough to chase him all the way to the spiders.
Alt+F4 is no escape:
I’ve crashed when fighting other ppl in WvW before, will that count as a certain death?
I don’t know why everyone is so concerned about this. How often do you crash? If your client is crashing every 15 minutes, maybe you should be complaining about that instead of this? So what if maybe once a week, you disconnect and die, losing roughly a silver (if you’re level 80), now, you’ll be making even more money killing people because they aren’t alt+f4ing you, so unless you are just terribad at WvW, this change will actually make you more money.
I think something a long the lines of a formal military uniform, with a toolbelt and bandolier would be appropriate. Engineer’s non kit weapons are both munitions based, we should have spare ammo appear on our skins. I also think having something to the affect of steel toed boots, and definitely more goggles would be appropriate. Maybe some helmets that are like soldier’s, plain round metal caps.
I personally would like to see more medium armor geared towards engineers. Right now all the skins seem to look like something a rogue or a ranger would wear. Something more akin of a military outfit or with more utility seems appropriate.
Going back to the past I remember in Utopia you could purchase a dragon to raid a kingdom you were at war with. It was very expensive and took the collective effort of all the different provinces in your kingdom to afford it.
Perhaps a purchasable dragon should just be prohibitively expensive? Or make it only available if your server has had outmanned buff on a particular map for over x number of hours.
Enough kitteny pve mobs in the lakes as it is. Don’t need one more. W3/sPvP is for PvP. Rest of the game is for dragons and kitten.
How about making dragons a purchasable siege unit when your server has the outmanned buff?
whats with all these “fixes” about capping and despawning crap? players are trying to make the game interesting and all Anet can seem to do is create lame rules for everything, so that the play becomes more formulaic and narrow. Anet really has to take a hard look at why they prefer nerfing and creating lame despawn rules etc. and favour it.
Using an alt account to deliberately steal another server’s supply and remove their ability to build appropriate siege is not making the game interesting, it’s giving your server an unfair advantage using a mechanic in a way that it was not designed to be used. It’s by definition an exploit.
both citadel towers are more difficult than both invader towers. This is by design as it allows the defenders to put up more of a fight in their home turf. Of the 2 citadel towers, the east tower is by far the worst as it has the geography to point ballistas safely at any of the destructible portions of the the walls. The only counter for this would be a defended trebuchet, on open land, with a good operator, which is obviously vulnerable to counter-attack if the defenders react in a timely fashion.
Even catapults are difficult if the tower has been sieged properly. You basically don’t take the east tower unless the home BL is outmanned or willfully unaware of how to defend (ie everyone on the map just runs around in a zerg camp capping for silver/karma instead of strategically playing).
Just make it where anyone who is dead inside a keep or tower the moment it is captured is automatically portalled outside of the walls. Wouldn’t affect hiding mesmers or thieves, so that strategy, as annoying as it is, would still be viable, and would still remove the need to babysit someone who refuses to respawn.
I roll with grenades and a flamethrower in my havoc squads. Between those 2 kits and my rifle I have 2 KBs, 1 jump/launch, several DoTs, several spikes, a snare, and a slow. Elixir S for escaping or running through a zerg to get inside a tower to defend, and a heal kit or turret (I like the turret because I can detonate it for an additional KB).
The only thing I think I lack as an engineer in a havoc is stealth. I have to be sneaky the old fashioned way, by hiding along ridges and making sure to avoid enemy contact until I reach the objective.
I do havoc with engineer all the time, and I’ve been known to charge into zergs that have my group outmanned 3 to 1 before.
Having the right food and slots are important, like any other class. And I dunno what you’re talking about with mobility, engineers get permaswiftness by putting 10 points into toolbelt.
I farm gorge for 30 mins a day to get gold, use gold to buy exotics off TP, use badges to buy siege. I’ve found it’s a much more efficient method of gear acquisition than trying to purchase with badges.
TBH I don’t know what happened to SBI’s NA daytime coverage in the last 2 weeks. When I get home from work every day almost I have to help recover our East tower and then garrison on SBI BL. We just don’t have the numbers we did when we were #1, and it seems like a lot of the bandwagons that came to us when we were #1 are still lingering. I can’t tell you how amazing it is to see a zerg build 12 golems and march them right into burning oil over and over and over..
I’m on SBI, I run 2-5 mans all the time. I also don’t give a “kitten” if there are 5 man enemies running around. You can ask some of my regular havokeers, I won’t hesitate to run headlong into a 15 man zerg with only 2 people at my back.. and many times I come out of it still alive.
There aren’t real “servers” in this game. We all play on one giant server mainframe. There’s just designated maps for each server and the rest are overflowed when they fill up.
You do realize that mainframes don’t really exist anymore right? I think you meant VM cluster, which is the much more likely scenario. Your character probably lives on several different SANs attached to a virtual LAN that encompasses a large number of individual servers racked and hosting VMs, with load balancing and active migration allowing for maximum uptime without neglecting maintenance.
Mainframes are just a single computational entity that serves out terminal connections over a network, similar idea, but fundamentally different, and severely less complex.
Yeah that engi video is old. I have a very similar build and only get crits of about 5k with grenade barrage, not the mythical 11-12k he was getting. I also play my engineer very well as I’m sure several JQ and SoS players can attest to. We don’t have a magic 2s kill button.
That being said, I don’t find the warrior’s instakill ability that big of a deal. They have to set you up for it and the build they do basically ruins everything else the class is actually good at. If they want to neuter themselves for cheap kills, won’t hurt my feelings.
Yes that engi video is old but grenade barrage has been buffed in WvW since then….
Yes but my build has the exact same crit bonuses as his, and I doubt he’s running full berserker armor considering he has 20k HP, and I don’t get 10-11k crits. So obviously at some point barrage has been adjusted.
hoschi I’m already at 3 this month.
kittens!
Proudly representing MORD on SBI. Yes, I’m the big hairy charr engineer that just murdered your yaks.
Phoenix grenade barrage will hit 5k, and that’s with “kitten” gear (I have all rares with the exception of 2 exotics). Now if you’re dropping the bomb on someone with a ridiculous amount of toughness the number may decline. Honestly I don’t use barrage as my opener, I find rifle shots with incendiary work just as well in terms of per second (barrage is just a spike) then I use barrage to nail them if they start to flee.

yeah I got warrior cannoned like this by some JQ last night, one baited me into the other’s shot and I died instantly.
But, I respawned, ran back, and killed him with 1 grenade barrage and 2 autoattacks using incendiary ammo. The loot bags he dropped were worth more than the repair bill.
How is posting screenshots and asking to talk to guild leaders an issue that should be in the exploits forum? You already “kitten” our PMs, delete any post that isn’t rainbows and butterflies, and provide 0 in game mechanics to properly address the issue (as it’s a TOS violation to report someone for spam when in fact they’re exploiting in WvW).
Since you’ve made it so hard for us to bring it to your attention, we are trying to deal with it via the community, by speaking with Guild Leaders and asking them to address the issue internally.
If you’re hardly getting any bags as an engineer please revise your build. You’re not doing your server any favors :P
Yes, on SBI we had a little bit of this going on recently too. I think the incident I witnessed was stubborn nublets though, not sabotage, as they were placing useful siege, just in very poor/easy to destroy locations, and they were using all the supply out of an unupgraded tower to do it, in spite of my protests.
Why is it saying those posts are 6 hours ago, those scores are like 5 mins ago.
Hopefully this post doesn’t get deleted. That is all I’m at liberty to say.
I’ve decided to publish my build. It saddens me to do so because I’ve burned a lot of JQ and SoS with it in recent weeks. My Engineer build is a great all around build, use grenades and mortar when suppressing wall defenders and siege, flamethrower and rifle, and toolbelt grenades when you’re doing spike damage in skirmishes.
This build has allowed me to attack walls, defend walls, and havoc. It works best in a small havoc team, last night I was attacking a supply camp to keep yaks out of the enemy’s keep for over an hour and a half, just me and a thief, and not only were we able to snipe the yaks, but we were able to do so and kill any enemies that came to save it up until they finally sent about 15 guys at us.
Here it is:
http://www.gw2build.com/builds/wvw-engineer-crashnburn-worldvworld-9001.html
I just experienced the most extreme example of this problem.
I was in the EB JP, going through steadily with no sign of enemies. Suddenly a thief is apparently behind me because I lost half my health and saw animation.
So I managed to survive that and get a little distance, while he kept heartstriking at me. A lot of maneuvering and close calls later, I have him downed just before he downed me. I let him teleport before going in for the stomp, and he vanishes.
I looked around for a while, waiting for him to reappear from stealth but he never did.S.
I’ve never had a problem with the thief style of killing, but alt f4ing because you can’t accept losing a fair 1v1 that you had the advantage in is extremely lame.
Thieves are so broken. And yet easy to counter if you’re expecting them.
Honestly, if you’re not killing more people in WvW than being killed, you’re doing something wrong. I’m pretty bad and die a lot and even I have a 5 to 1 kill to death ratio (which is really bad). Even with those deaths, I always come out with more coin in my pocket than I went in with after repairs.
I log about 40-150 kills every night, and I die maybe 20 times on a really bad night.
And yes, if you’re not spending money on siege/upgrades, just looting and repairing your armor, you should be making money from WvW. Last night alone I made 1.4g in WvW.
Here’s a pro-tip for anyone trying to offset their repair bills in WvW, don’t double click on those “Heavy bag of loot” you get from enemies. Most of them will sell for 2s straight-up on the TP, if you double click them and get leather or ore, they instantly drop to a value of a few copper. Also, sell any crafting supplies you find, unless you think they’re worth more to you than they sell for on TP. An example would be Armored scales you might get when taking the middle island, they average about 17s a piece.
One more thing, don’t repair after ever death. Repair when your armor starts to break (not damaged). It costs the same to repair a broken piece as it does a damaged piece, so you get a little more mileage out of your silver if you wait for the armor to actually break.
