I deleted my questions as I was able to figure out what to do to completed the story line today after it initially bugged for me.

I read the posts here first and did not really see any suggestions. I then logged in and out of the game after my second unsuccessful attempt. On my third try, afte completeing the cutscene with no “skipping”, I walked up the stairs directly in front of the war band. This spawned ghosts and I was then able to complete the story line to the end. Not sure if this helps anyone or not.

I am also unable to access my HoM items despite having linked my accounts (according to my GW2 account), checking my calculator, logging in and out of GW and having obtained the portal stone. NPC is happy to see me but has nothing to give me. I too have lost the ability to obtain my “reserved” name so have moved forward with names that were not my first choice. My reserved names were locked out for me in game. My better half has the same issue.
We contacted support previously and rec a response that it was “all fixed”. It is not. We believe that part of our issue is that our GW accounts and our GW2 accounts have two diff email addresses. We asked support (prior to launch) if this was going to be an issue and have written responses from Vagabond that it was not going to be. Guess we know better now. I know this is not an earth shattering issue and its basically a cosmetic thing for our toons. However, we did spend time earning the rewards and would like to have them as soon as it is possible. Thanks in advance!
******Just a quick update/edit. Several friends of mine that were unable to access HoM awards have rec theirs as of last nights updates. However, their email addresses were the same for GW and GW2. I feel pretty confident at this point that this is where my issue lies. With 2 different emails (GW=ncsoft and GW2=hotmail.com) the accounts can not link as they can not be recognized as being owned by the same person. At this point, just giving use the rewards that have been earned by our GW accounts maybe the easiest things as I have no idea how you would go about resetting email addresses on pre-existing GW accounts. Hope you all can figure it out soon! Thanks!

I am also having an issue with not being able to purchase gems. I have both a valid paypal account and a valid credit card. I have purchased gems several times in game since the launch with no issues. Now I am unable to complete a transaction with either payment source. I have posted a ticket with support (120904-001513) with no response to the issue. When the final step of the transaction is supposed to appear I am bounced out to a GW2 page that advises me it was not able to be completed.
From the players side of things… in game purchases for items such as Black Lion chest keys or transmog stones are part of the game experience. Unopened chests sitting in my bank take up space and are useless yet they are there for us as part of the “fun” factor. Earning keys from chest rewards is fine but not frequent enough to make a difference. From a business side of things…everyday the gem store is down (for those of us that want to purchase an item) is a day that the business part of the game has lost income. Assistance is appreciated and thanks!!
