Reading through the threads, it seems that turning reflections and shadows down helps. Apparently those cause issues with some of the latest nvidia drivers that cause panning with the mouse to cause FPS drops.
I turned reflections to terrain and sky, and shadows down, and it is working a lot better.
Thanks! I found the old threads on google earlier, but didn’t know how to get to them due to the re-organization. And the forum search yielded no results either. Thanks again!
I recently upgraded my computer with a newer solid state drive (moved to Samsung 850 PRO) and video card (GTX 970 FTW) and did a fresh install of everything. Ever since performing these upgradates I have ran into an odd issue. I get great performance out of Guild Wars 2 in terms of FPS almost all the time. The only time I have a problem is when I am turning my character or turning the camera.
As soon as I start to turn the camera, FPS will drop from 120+ down to low 30’s for a few seconds, and then it’ll shoot back up. It is making it hard to play the game, because with how much I typically have to turn it is like running through a bog.
Open to any thoughts or suggestions.
I wish I looked at the math on this a lot closer. I bought a set of 25 keys, and then did the math. Silly me! Kind of upset
But it still does 7.1 surround sound, and sounds perfect (i.e, no scratches/glitches on Character screen) if I disable Dolby surround.
Speakers work great otherwise, on a multiude of other games, or movies, or music. It ONLY happens in GW2, so I really doubt it’s hardware.
I think I’ve narrowed it down to the Dolby software for this particular headset.
So, I had thought I hooked the headset up via audio jacks, but I already had moved it over to USB device.
Headset is a Logitech G430s. After some more troubleshooting, I’ve found that it’s the Logitech Dolby Surround software enabled by running it through the 3.5 → USB device.
If I disable Dolby Surround, the music is no longer scratchy, but doesn’t sound as good once I get into the game. I guess it’s something I am stuck with.
Okay, now this is really weird. If I take a recording, it comes out perfectly. Yet, listening to it live, it’s glitchy/scratchy.
I’ve updated all of my drivers, and this motherboard (on-board audio) is performing fine in every other game I have. The audio glitch is only evident in Guild Wars 2, and specifically happens most often at the Character Select screen.
It happens every time I open the game and hit the character select screen, and will also happen (albeit rarely) during in-game music while playing.
I’m working on a recording now so an example can be heard.
I searched but didn’t find anything so far. Whenever I launch Guild Wars 2 client and get to the character select screen, the music is very scratchy/glitchy. It’ll eventually fix itself, but as I play the game, it’ll scratch/glitch again in music or game sounds.
My specs are as follows:
Core i7 3770k
AsRock Z77 Extreme4 motherboard, using onboard audio.
Samsung 840 500GB Solid state drive (where GW2 client is installed)
Nvidia GTX 670 FTW
16GB DDR3 RAM.
Any thoughts/insight would be much appreciated! This is the only game that has made this glitch/noise. (Other games that work: DayZ, Kingdoms of Amalaur, Titanfall, Battlefield 4, etc.)
