The tragedy of Orr

This is a problem. How is an mmo lover supposed to enjoy a game if the content they want to experience is underpopulated. There is a reason why we are playing mmo’s and not something like Skyrim. I haven’t played gw2 in about a month or so. I want to love it so bad but I can’t enjoy the PvE content anymore. There is a large hole in the game for me, very much so due to the lack of social energy and populated zones. Gw2 may have a much nicer community than many games, but the energy is low. Gw2 doesn’t make a very good single player game.
The development team really needs to list and prioritize fixing the issues this game has. They need to give people a good reason to enjoy the PvE zones first and foremost. And then they need a new hook with an expansion that will bring extra population into the game. If this happens, I might go die hard for this game again.
I can only hope..

Will I enjoy this game?

Exactly what many have said. Ignore the forums. The game is going through a rough spot right now with different tiers of gear being released which wouldn’t be a problem if they hadn’t said from the get go that they wouldn’t introduce a gear treadmill. I personally have stopped playing for the most part out of sheer disappointment in a company who’s word means nothing but this really is nothing new to the genre as whole. Besides these complaints the game is pretty amazing. Wonderful art, the action is fun and there is quite a large amount of content that is accessible at any level. Have fun and don’t listen to these negative neds that do nothing but bring out the worst in this game because in actuality, this is one of the most high quality mmorpg’s on the market.

Ascended Gear = Legendary without Sparklies

I’ve come to peace with the whole Ascended thing but my lack of motivation to play the game since the new content was released persists. Maybe I’ll get that motivation back someday but I fear that when I do, I’ll enter the game and many of the people in LA will be looking almost exactly the same except for the poor players or the players with less time to dedicate. Honestly though, I would rather look unique in a crowd than have the highest numbers on my gear.

Don’t like the changes, haven’t been playing like many others. But we do care which is why we stick onto the forums. Myself and many other people waited for this game anxiously for 2 years and have for the most part enjoyed the game up until now.
But trust me, people took your useless advice before you ever felt the need to post it in another new thread. Just another person creating threads so that they can have a leg in all of this virtual drama.

You should have read more posts before you made ANOTHER thread about this. If you don’t understand why this impacts the game in a negative way, go educate yourself on one of the 50 threads about this topic. And then if you have something to say, then guess what you can do? :O
You can post your opinion on the already existing thread!
Or are you just trying to draw attention to yourself?

I’m most concerned about coming to Lion’s Arch later on down the road to see everyone dressed in the exact same ascendance gear. All individual looks will be gone because why would people want to look unique when they can kill anyone who does? Groups will take one look at how your equipped and instantly the “noob” argument will come into play which is sad because I haven’t seen any of that going on so far. It was like a breath of fresh air…

Guys, come on. Really?

Why is this such a big deal, what exactly changed that the game is significantly worse this week than last? Better dungeon drops, better champion drops, better chest loot, more content, DA KARKA, and you guys want a “legacy” server?

NO ONE is forcing you to play a so called “numbers game.” You choose your play-style, not Anet, not “elitists,” but you.

The problem is that players who have families, jobs and children (the casual players that this game was so focused on targeting) will no longer be able to compete with the people who have more time to spend grinding away dungeons. This gear actually gives a somewhat significant increase in stats from exotics. Not only that but I read that they plan on increasing stats on legendary items to make them stronger than ascended, along with making the ascended armor and weapons. The exotics that I spent a considerable time obtaining will be rendered inferior and all forms of PvP will become a mass of hardcore players all in the same gear, tearing up the standard casual player. Hope that helps.

they engaged in a type of criminal fraud called bait and switch. file a complaint with the federal trade commision. when have scam artists ever made good after bilking people?

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/guides/baitads-gd.htm

i hope they get nailed to the wall for this. seeing them made an example of is better than any refund.

I think this might be the only way to get anything through their thick skulls..
Love the game, hate the kitten who came up with this idea.

Constructive Ascension

Yeah…since the release of this abomination was in the form of accessories. They can’t change the stats and make anyone who has any Ascended gear happy because they can’t cosmetically reward the players with these items. This thought gives me an inky feeling about Anet :S
Seems like an intentional attack.

The answer is simple. Just lower the stats to what they should be and make it so that its only trait that makes it stronger is its viability in fractal dungeons for that little slot the gear has. People will still work their butts off for the Ascended equipment for nothing more than the cosmetic gain anyways! This is actually the direction I would love for Anet to go. Continue on and make the whole Ascended set, please by all means. Just don’t make the stats better. That wasn’t what you needed to make your player base happy.

Wow People with 600 hours played after paying 60 bucks.

What joke.

You got your monies worth.

Now you want to unpay for it for what they gave you. If you don’t like stop playing and stop spending money. But if you played for 600 hours, They gave you enough.

Personal opinion.

You know What I would do if I was a dev company. I would never tell anyone any thing about future plans EVER!!!!!

If the second something small changed a bunch of people can roll around kicking a scream after playing 600 hours to get their money back. It’s too risky.

This is why game companies lock everything in the vault and don’t tell people what they are working on.

The ONLY thing you do is hurt the industry as a whole. It a HUGE risk for companies to build and try new things cause some times they don’t work and they still need to make a profit.

GW2 tried to be more then a WoW clone, For that at least they deserve 60 bucks.

Maybe if devs shared their ideas with us (without spoiling future content ofc) and truly paid attention to what the players wanted, they wouldn’t be at risk of losing their player base and profits. I promise you that if a couple of months ago they had asked the players if they wanted a new tier of equipment that was slightly superior, they would have never made that update in the first place due to the 10k+ rants that they are receiving now. And that’s just the people that decided to speak up. Who knows how many people just quit the moment they saw the update or simply don’t look at the forums.

The real tragedy is yet to come. From what I’ve been reading on the internet, they are also considering making ascended weapons and armor. That’s when the original concept of the game will be truly soiled. Anyone who hasn’t allowed their voice to be heard needs to speak up! If not, chances are looking like they will follow through with the rest of the gear, which means they will also increasing the stats on Legendary items (fact) and probably down the road will be releasing something better than Legendary like Godly or something with even better stats. To the people who think we are just whining, realize that we are playing a game where every player expects and was promised to be on somewhat even grounds with each other in events like WvW. The release of this new equipment will turn pvp in guild wars 2 into an abomination consisting of people who play 12+ hours every day leaving the casual players wishing they could pvp successfully but never can because of their job, families etc..

There is still many different directions we can go with the ascended gear such as making it more ideal for FotM dungeons than standard pve or pvp which would be pretty easy to do. But no matter which direction is taken, the stats need to be lowered. I would love to see Ascended weapons and armor hit the game, displaying a sleek new style option for those who want it, but not to be more superior than others.
Stop this madness please? Remember Anet, you created a game accessible to players of all different types. You drew in a HUGE fraction of your players with this concept in mind. MANY OF US WILL LEAVE IF THIS CONTINUES!!

Eliminate Gold Sellers

I came across this old post on guildwars2guru and thought that it was useful. This is a problem that must be stopped in the early stages of the games life before it becomes the game. You don’t want a game that when people think of it, they think of botters and gold sellers.
__________________________________________________________________

The solution, Markhovian chains.

Basically, a Markhovian chain is a database of indexed keywords or objects and the likely hood of certain keyword or objects coming after it. Basically, it learns a pattern words or characters.

Using the rule-set, you can then analyze anything passed to it and determine how similar the phrase is to the patterns.

To define the rule-set, you would take hundreds of different reported Gold-Seller spam and analyze the streams to create a pattern, as most gold-seller spam follows a very similar pattern of wording and characters. Once the ruleset is defined, you implement the configuration client side to analyze everything a client sends. If a message is found to be above a certain chance of similarity to the pattern (say, 75% and up), the message should be auto blocked and the client reports the player to the GMs for inspection. If the client tries to continually send messages that score above the similarity constant, the server should issue an auto temporary ban on the player, pushing that account onto an auto-ban account list for verification (priority, cause you want to make sure no valid accounts are out for too long).

Such a system can work, and has worked in the past. EvE Online yuse a similar system a couple years ago to auto-ban thousands of ISK farmers (bots) from the game by analyzing actions of known botters. What they found was that of the several thousands of accounts that were banned, less than 1% were accidentally banned, the rest were legit bots.

In fact, a similar system can be built in for bots, as well. The client should watch and see if a player stays in one area for a prolonged period of time and check to see if the player is constantly pressing buttons, too constant and for far longer than a legit player would.

Edit: Also, another thing that would help would be the removal of the ability to sell items on the TP from anywhere in the game, it should be limited to cities only. Gold-Seller’s two main forms of gaining currency: hacking accounts and botting. Bots are auto selling their loot on the TP, which is why you find so many things listed for under vendor value. Get rid of their income and it becomes harder for them to get the gold to sell.

Building thief for dungeons

So this is my toon. I have played up to level 80 so far with zero guidance, but upon trying my first dungeon I realized that I have little to no idea of what I am doing for sure. I’ve kind of revised my build lately, switching from d/d to d/p which I am unsure if that was wise or not, though I do like the constant blinds. I have mostly built upon toughness, power, precision and condition damage. I try not to go with the common crowd which appears to me to be backstab builds. Also advice on traits and skills would be useful.

Hmm, I don’t feel that I have had many problems in PvE. Single targets are destroyed by bleeding and poison by my d/d and I can take out like 10 targets at a time with my shortbow/caltrops/dagger storm.

Let's see some thief pics
