OK I know this has already been suggested, but I’m hoping if it appears more then maybe anet will be more inclined to listen.
People should NOT be able to buy legendaries, the whole point of them is that they represent the time and effort you have put into a game, they are supposed to be hard to get, not offered up to the highest bidder.
If people can buy them it diminishes their value and worth, even to someone who may have taken the time to make it. It means that you are no longer in a renowned group of people who spent their time on the game. Yes I know you can essentially buy one anyway by buying the materials needed to create it but atleast even then there are some things you can’t buy.
There are already rare and powerful weapons that people can buy for inordinate sums of gold on the trading post, people can still buy rare weapons instead of working for them but please dont put the legendaries in that category. Something isn’t legendary if you bought it with real money by using the gem exchange.
It’s also a way of slowly breaking the economy, there’s one on the trading post now for 9500 gold. If someone buys that then the seller has more gold than they could possibly need and slowly more and more people do that and you just get insane inflation, this kind of thing has ruined many MMO’s in the past. Yes again people can do this anyway by simply buying gems and exchanging them and having more gold than they could possibly need but people are far more likely to do that to buy a legendary than for the pure sake of it.
I know it’s a way of enticing people to buy things with real money, and thus giving anet profit, but if you do want to do that then make 2 versions, or something. Just don’t make the best things in the game more likely to be held by people with money than dedication.
Personally I would prefer accountbound as if you stopped using a character you could take your time and effort with you to your other character but if your going to make it soulbound make it soulbound on aquire not on use.

Hi Yashino, no you lose the vault when you transfer along with any influence.
Hi Obligated

I think it’s an interesting topic and something that doesn’t have a right or wrong answer. It’s good that Anet have thought about it and added it into the game I think as afterall they want to make Guild Wars 2 stand out againt the competition, of which there is a lot out there. It’s a situation where you can’t please everyone but having the option there gives players that want it the chance and for those that don’t they can simply ignore it.
I think it’s a great idea for people looking for a guild as you see many posts in this forum with people looking and they get all sorts of replies, picking someone on face value isn’t easy so being able to give them all a chance I think is helpful.
I think it also gives something extra on your other characters, there are several people that limit characters to a certain aspect of the game, like they may have a mesmer that they only sPvP on so having that character in an sPvP only guild makes sense but if for some reason they then decide to branch out with that character and go on a dungeon run they could swap to a PvE guild already with another charcter without having to leave the sPvP one.
That being said it does have down side of like other people have said allowing certain players to abuse guilds and their bonuses but in my opinion people like that are the ones that can harm a gaming community and I don’t think a system or a game should be painted in a bad light just because of that.
As the Leader of a very small guild having people not represent you can have a very big impact but I think as long as they still participate in some guild activities like once a week or something then you are still both benefitting and if you have managed to recruit good people then chances are if you whispered someone you were going on guild WvWvW spree then chances are they would join in (if not currently in the middle of something.)
What I want to see is a decent guild alliances system, where people that swap guilds would be able to really shine as they would be able to help bring guilds together. That way both guilds should benefit from the representation of the alliance with the secondary guild recieving half influence or something like that.
That’s a bit of an essay there lol, sorry about that :P but personally I like the idea but I think it could be improved by a more rounded guild and alliance system. Also if anyone is looking for a small guild in Aurora Glade then you can check out the links in my signature below.

It’s a good idea but it needs tweaking a bit. I don’t like the idea of stat boots or skill bonuses as casual players would suffer over hard core gamers even if its not intended that way fact of the matter is if a skilled but casual player can play for 2 hours a day and get 10 points an hour while a less skilled but more active player can play for 5 hours and only amass 5 points an hour they are still being rewarded for the amount of time they play.
It’s very difficult to quantify skill over time you could however run it with cosmetic bonuses, titles, skins for your gear you could transmute to it, badges of honour maybe but keep it away from anything that would ever give anvantage as high lvl players with exotic gear already have an advantage over lvl 20’s with magic gear or whatever.
Change the way you obtain it though, you could get points for killing a person or defending a dolyac, killing tower npcs, taking out camps etc. The same way you get karma and gold etc for joining in these events you could also get WvW points based on your contribution like the bronze, silver and gold. It could almost work as an improvement to the system already implemented that gives you titles in your achievments for killing so many people etc but it could be broader and give you more than a title and emcompass everything instead of something specific.
You could even have levels, 1 – 80 same as the character cap and every 20 levels after 15 you could get a title and every 20 levels after 20 you could get a skin like increasing in rank. Though to try and make it a bit harder or make you try out all areas for the very best “levels” there could be requirements, to become level 10 you would need to have taken or defended 3 camps as well as gaining 10,000 points in total, level 80 could require you to take/defend stonemist once or take/defend 10 garrisons (as some servers might find taking stonemist a bit much) along with the point requirements. It wouldnt force people to spend a long time doing something they don’t like if they prefer being on small teams that go on camp raids but it would be enough to say I’ve tried out all of WvWvW.
Just to be clear with the talk of levels, these wouldnt be stat increases or allow you to wear better gear they would be cosmetic levels only.
Thats my two cents, if you wanted to help flesh out achievements in WvWvW a bit more and give people something else to strive for.
Just something which struck me as odd when I finally had enough gold to get my Gift of Darkness Recipe, I also think other recipe’s do this like the Gift of Water assuming the wiki is correct.
But would it not make more sense for the crafting materials, e.g. orichalcum ingots, needed to create these objects be related to the crafting profession in question.
I’m not suggesting this to make it easier or anything like that but if you require 400 in Armoursmithing to create the gift of darkness, for example, would it not make more sense to require 250 Gossamer than 250 Leather.
Just something that doesn’t seem to add up to me and I thought I would suggest it.
