Confusion too fickle. Retaliation just fine?

Blog post justifying Confusion changes:
" In some combat situations, this is far too effective, such as against a very rapidly attacking character. In other cases, it performs very poorly, such as on a slowly attacking boss."

The EXACT same wording could be used to describe Retaliation. Is Retaliation going to remain exactly the same, where you can do 250 damage to guy hitting you with a hammer and 2,500 damage to the guy shooting a flame-thrower at you?

Confusion changes:
“When confusion is placed on an enemy, it will not just slowly drain their life over time but also damage them when they attack. This allows for a more consistent result, as some foes attack quickly but others only once every few seconds, wasting potential damage. We believe we’ve found a happy middle ground where confusion retains its original design intent but will be useful in more areas of the game.”

Confusion too fickle… Retaliation just fine?

The difference is confusion forces the player to make a choice. Keep attacking and take lots of damage or run away and try to escape / wait out the duration / cleanse. Confusion STACKS making it extremely punishing when used correctly. To counter retaliation simply stop attacking your target and you will not take any damage, you don’t need to waste a skill to cleanse it either. Retaliation also doesn’t stack and can be boon ripped. Pretty easy to see why it’s totally fine as it is.

Protection and Retaliation

Retaliation shouldn’t work with condition damage, as the attacker has zero control over whether they take the damage or not once the condition is applied. Direct attacks can be stopped as soon as retaliation pops if you want to avoid the damage.

Protection against conditions? Not sure that’s necessary since resistance 100% nullifies them for its duration. That said it seems much harder to get than protection.

Then conditions shouldn’t work with Vulnerability. They already have lots of additional effects. Poisons reduce healing, torment does double damage when you move, confusion deals damage when you use any attack. Then there’s 2 more damaging conditions, burn and bleed which only require condition damage stats to do reasonable damage. Leaving two more stats to be used defensively. So super dire tank condition necro with 100% crit chance from traits and 25% vul nearly all the time is unaffected by protection and retaliation? Pleaaaase

Protection working on Conditions: Great Idea!

Retaliation procing on conditions OH GOD NO!

Your typical condition user is using many conditions. If every applied condition caused retaliation, then a condi user would be eating around 5-8 ticks of retaliation damage ON TOP of physical attacks.

I’m sure they could figure out how to balance the damage.

This has to be true or else conditions will be godly. Sinister Engineer will be able to destroy anyone. Protection and Retaliation should 100% work with condis or else direct damage will be useless. Good catch.

Can I claim hacks?

Can I say, lies?

Lols, it looks like this guy got hacked, and the hacker is insta-selling everything in his inventory/bank.

I was actually leveling huntsman with some gold from t6 mats.

PS: I’m not saying people should spend all their gold and try to gamble the forge. Just if you have some extra forge stones and dungeon tokens…it couldn’t hurt to try.

Just wanted to encourage folks who are tempted to forge for some precursors. Ive had really great luck within my very first week of playing the forge, maybe Zommy is feeling generous so give it a try!

If anyones curious I used forge stones and all dungeon weapons with every attempt and recieved a pre about every 10 tries. In this order – The Lover, Chaos Gun, The Hunter, Howl.
