Mac Client Crash Without Warning [Merged]

Same to report on Yosemite. Much worse in HoT zones, and seems worse after recent patch. I’ve been playing around with the video settings and starting on low I can creep them up a bit in original zones… but even on lowest settings crashes in HoT zones, usually within 5-10 mins especially if there’s a crowd of players.

If it crashes on you and won’t relaunch, go to Finder>Go Menu>Utilities>Activity Monitor, do a search in the upper right for Guild and force quit whatever comes up. Usually launches again after that. I will say it mostly crashes clean for me and I only have to go to Activity Monitor occasionally.

CRASHES OFTEN, especially in HoT areas and groups. Video will stutter 1 or 2 frames, might clear, more often quits out. Sometimes clean to desktop, most times not and I’ll have to force quit. Lowest video settings may help some, but will still eventually crash.

Happens regularly after 10-15 mins. Sooner when in large groups. I’ve missed the end of MANY events because of it. Virtually UNPLAYABLE for any length of time.

Before HoT I rarely had crashes even on higher video settings. It doesn’t seem to crash as much in pre-HoT areas, but I may just not be playing there as long.

It’s very frustrating because the new content is awesome. Please make it stop crashing.

Might be obvious but I didn’t see anyone mention it…. you can hand off your 11 bags of loot to an alt to open for higher level gear to sell or salvage for mats. If you’re going for mats have an alt of appropriate level open the bags (50’s for linen, etc). If you’re going to sell gear, mid to lower level stuff sells better. Level 80 stuff doesn’t sell well. RNG means you might even get a yellow or better!

Post patch I have Gem Store access only. No Trading Post, No Gem Exchange, No Sell My Items, etc.

I can only spend cash. Thanks.

As of patch today (12-11-13) I CAN BUY GEMS! Inset window comes up and everything.

fyi: The ‘build’ patch didn’t apply until I quit out and relaunched GW2.

Even Macs with a disk drive can boot from USB. I work on Macs for a living. They’ve been USB bootable for many years and many generations… disk drive or not.

Also, I use rEFIt and it’s really an EFI and boot drive selection manager. It doesn’t give you a PC Bios replacement but I don’t think you need it. I think if you boot your Mac holding down the option key the PC on USB might show up in which case it’ll be bootable. I’ve never tried this because it would be pretty slow, but I think it might work.

What I’m not sure of is if the Windows installer will let you install on an external anything!

That’s actually not true. You can boot most any Mac made in the last several years from a USB device. It may not be fast, but it’ll work fine.

HOWEVER you’re not asking about booting a Mac but booting WINDOWS. It can be done, but it likely won’t be fast enough to be usable for GW2. Here’s a link w/ the basics:

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstricks/ht/bootusbflash.htm

Since you can’t access the BIOS on a Mac you’ll have to do something like holding down the ‘Option-key’ on startup to select the Windows partition.

Honestly you’d be much better off doing a standard Boot Camp setup.

Let's unite for a Mac OS X native client

I’d love to see a native client. I actually have very few issues w/ the current build other than the BLTC and BUYING GEMS.

Wine optimized clients work pretty well, but will never be quite the same as a Native Unix build.

Ditto.

Everything else in the BLTC works fine… usually. When it doesn’t I can quit the game and relaunch and then the BLTC works, but not the BUY GEMS.

You’d think ANet would want our money and fix this. Their loss.

I’ve always had issues accessing BLTC, but usually quitting out of the game and re-launching fixes it (might have to do it more than once).

But now I cannot BUY GEMS.

Everything else works fine, but when I click to BUY GEMS the inset window comes up but is blank and never propogates w/ text. I’ve been searching for a solution and have noticed that MANY people have this issue w/ the Gem Store and issues w/ the BLTC in general on the Mac Client. I’ve tried all the usual fixes and even a few un-usual ones but nothing fixes this.

I’d think that ANet would make it a Priority to fix the module that makes them money, but Oh Well, their loss. Great game tho.
